Glad indeed it’s over. No real news here though? We got a lot of money for a player that has had one (very) good season. At no other time would we have gotten more money for him. I also doubt that he’ll have as good a season as the last one. He will need to get used to the new team etc.

A few things that I feel needed to be pointed out…
1. RVP was the best player last season, no point pretending like he was useless.
2. RVP indicated he wouldn’t sign a new contract and claimed to not like the direction and ambition of the club.
3. The club signs experienced international players who the fans are genuinely excited about.
Now if the signings were made because RVP might leave, it is the best possible response to a situation where one of your top players wants to leave. If they were made to complement a squad with RVP, then all the better. Either way a lack of ambition cannot be a legitimate excuse, even if we are to assume that Walcott and Song are also headed for the exit. The players that have come in are of a higher pedigree than usually is the case. Last summer a lack of ambition and the club dragging its feet would have been an apt excuse, this season – no!
4. Selling to the mancs is sad and frustrating, but considering we’ve gotten 24 million for a 29 year old who didn’t want to be part of the squad and the fact that there might not have been any concrete bids of even half the value from abroad, it seems like good business. It’s quite possible the ban that Conte at Juventus received played a part in the way things panned out.
5. Yes, the money has to be reinvested and by all accounts the club is on the lookout for further signings. If no signings are made the squad still looks better than it did this past season, and while that is no consolation it is definitely not some disaster that we’re made to believe by all and sundry.
6. Those who claim that we would be relegated/mid table/struggling/mediocre without RVP’s brilliant form in the last 18 months have to also admit that we could have won more than one trophy if he had been fit for the most part of the previous 84 months.
7. And finally, is he a cunt? I lost all interest in him in the week after his ‘you guys’ statement where he made no attempts to retract his claims and showed no respect for the club. Time to support the squad that wants to be here and play for The Arsenal. They said we had no ambition when Stapleton was finally sold. They’re saying the same things again. 1. I believe the saying is “Arsène knows best”, not ‘Arsenal’ knows best
2. RvP didn’t want to go to Juventus after their manager got suspended for 10 months – we can’t force him to sign for them against his will
3. Actually, £24 million for a guy who spent about 3 out of the last 8 years out injured, who is 29 and only has 1 year left on his contract is pretty ‘groundbreaking’ – consider we bought Podolski (26, 101 caps for Germany, 1 year left on his contract) for £11 million.
4. At the risk of repeating the bleeding obvious also, Arsenal had to buy cheap players and sell some for profit every year to pay off our shiny new stadium – that was the plan and we’ve nearly pulled it off. Once we have paid our debts and have a massively increased revenue due in part to our 50% increased stadium size we will be able to keep out best players and be competitive in the market again. This has always been a long term strategy and it looks – judging by 3 expensive signings this window the likes of which we haven’t seen for years – like we may be nearly there. It is a testament to Wenger’s brilliance that we have managed to stay competitive through this period with all the constraints involved.

I understand what you’re saying and you make good points but once a player decides he doesn’t want to pay to the club, the best thing is to sell and get rid of the divisive figure in the squad. Of course selling to Juventus or some club in Russia in this case would have been the best solution but what if Juventus didn’t submit a bid or were just not interested after their manager got banned?
If the two Manchester clubs were the only ones with any interest, then the only factor to be considered should be whether or not our valuation of the player is met. And by all accounts 24 million for a 29 year old is good business. The players will go for the money, trophies are just a convenient excuse that’ll keep them in check for a while. This is going to cost United more than £65M for a club that’s over £400M in debt even after the floatation.
So, why has MUFC done this? The reason is relatively simple. US NYSE analysts have valued MANU shares at around $5 at a time when low volume still has those shares trading at $14. If those shares drop to the estimated $5 then it essentially values the club at around £510M at a time when their debt is £400. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that’s not exactly a good thing.
What the RvP transfer does, is give the Glazers time to rip United off and run. They can’t afford this deal, and while they know they can’t afford the deal, they’re willing to gamble on a grey-haired, 29-year-old, with an iffy injury record to stave off the inevitable share slide.
Of course, all the headlines will be about Arsenal being finished and MUFC being brilliant. But newspapers and pundits haven’t a clue. They never did, they never do, and they won’t this time either.
This one transfer could spell the end of (a) Ferguson, (b) The cash-strapped Glazers, (c) Manchester United itself, and (d) RvP.

The question is whether that money is destined for reinvestment in players or something else. If it’s players then we should see a replacement for RvP relatively soon. After all, AW is on record as saying Podolski and Giroud have NOT been brought in to replace RvP but to complement him and strengthen the squad.
But in the meanwhile:

Firstly, your analogy on united’s valuation is flawed – even if their shares fall to $5, they’ve only floated 10% of the stock and it doesn’t give you voting rights – it was meant to be a money spinner wherein muppets would buy it. If someone wanted to really “buy” them, then i can assure they would have to cough up a lot more.
That asshole was the best player in the league last year, and would be a major asset to any team, anyone thinking otherwise is deluded.
And finally, whilst it’s wonderful to speculate on the accounts at the club, no one will know the real truth until they’re actually released next year. As a FYI – the FFP Is based on an accrual system not cash so it’s irrelevant how much you spend on a player transfer in a given year, as long as the amortized cost for the player is covered by your operational income – something we don’t have an issue with. Also, from what I remember, the debt servicing for the club is only 14M a year, they’re using the spare cash to pay down the principal so that their balance sheet looks better & if they want, they could always re-finance the stadium and get cash for player transfers. At the end of the day, the shareholders don’t want to invest any funds into the club nor do they want bloated salaries that aren’t covered by the annual income. We’ve always had room to buy folks, just not for some insane amounts.
Anyway, all said an done, we are a big, stable club with a passionate & global fan-base so we’ll always be fine – it’s just that this thing hurts a lot.
Sorry – also wanted to add that the deal is said to be “upto 24M” which means there’s an upfront portion + add-ons. And looking at all the bad karma this dick has going his way, I wouldn’t count on the latter!

I’m not going to jump on the hate bandwagon as Van Persie is only doing what most people would do in his position. He has seen his chance to get rich and he’s taken it. I wouldn’t be so sure that he’s gone to United to fulfill his ambition to win something as there’s no guarantees that they will.
Last season showed that United have weaknesses in their team, and so far those weaknesses have not been properly addressed. Van Persie doesn’t resolve their midfield crisis, but does take away a chunk of cash that might have been used to do so.
Van Persie wasn’t a target man for crosses with us. He thrived on balls cut in to him from the wing, yes, but also from many through balls. He’ll get the service he needs from United, no question. The only question is whether he’s up to a second full season with his injury record. One thing I’m sure will happen is his retirement from international football after the next world cup, if not sooner. United will not allow him to play as many Holland games as we did.
It’s a shame to lose him, but we can now get back to sharing the goals amongst the team. Our play will vary more, and our unpredictability will mean we are harder to play against. The opposition won’t be able to snuff out our scoring chances by concentrating on one striker, so we will be stronger as a team.
We know that Arsene Wenger will have one or two players in mind for already to strengthen the team, and at least now we have a decent amount of cash to make another good purchase possible, either now or in January. I hope he has another bargain like Cazorla in the works. A hard as nails ball winner would be nice.

The last two years he was one of Arsenals most fit during that period. ManU will get a strong and fit player in he’s best years.
One thing to note is that during the last season, when he did get his injury, our team was so geared to the RVP one-man team thing that we didn’t really do too well in the scoring department when he was out (or did I imagine that).

Ah, come on, that sounds like PR… although, on the other hand, Wenger is smart, and was probably planning for this ever since the start of the summer. What better way to show someone that no one player is bigger than the club. Especially when they are near 30. The thing that annoyed him most about Cesc and Nasri was that they both had their best years ahead of them. I’m pretty sure we’ve seen the best of RVP. First off thank goodness that is over and as for Robin Van Per$ie, don’t let the door hit you on the way out…..bastard.
Now, question for us true Gunners. Right now…today…who would you rather have going into this season? Na$ri, Fabregas, Van Per$ie….or….Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud?
For me…I will take what we got, although I believe Wenger will sign another forward player in the window. Fabregas versus Cazorla, ok maybe a touch of give up but I am honestly not so sure. Fabregas is younger yes, but for me the technical ability (especially with both feet) it tough to distinguish.
Van Per$ie versus Giroud…ofcourse different types of strikers but I have to say even before we signed Giroud I watched him and highlights of him in Ligue 1, and he is not like your typical French striker. Hold up play, in the air, even technically I think Giroud is the type of player with the build that can certainly handle any centerback in the EPL. Ofcourse nobody would expect that goal tally of Van Per$ie, but given injury record and the fact that Giroud is clearly on the upswing of his career, I really believe he can be a mainstay up front.
Podolski versus Na$ri….obviously not a like for like at all. However, a guy that can play central or attacking winger or just behind or next to Giroud? Versus that malcontent Na$ri who was as injury prone as anyone and really provided a single role? No question there.
And probably most importantly….I think we have 3 guys that want to be at Arsenal. The other 3….well. For whatever the reasons involved with Fab, the bottom line he wanted to be somewhere else.
I believe (with no info whatsoever), that Walcott wants to be at Arsenal as well, and Arsene will resign him. Whatever happens with Song, Wenger is prepared, whether Sahin, MVila or both. I think we need a def back for cover, but otherwise Wenger will sign a couple more and we are good to go.

I’ve been wrong before, but I don’t think we’ll be selling Theo or Song after the reaction this is getting from Gooners. At least not this summer. I would suggest that Theo is more expendable than Song to our team due to other squad members, but we really need to focus on shifting some dead weight now.

I accepted Henry and Fabregas leaving as I genuinely thought they acted reasonably when they left. Nasri, was a good player for us, but still only that when he left. RVP was a long standing player, who genuinely seemed to be a decent bloke. So Wenger’s faith in a incredibly injury prone player makes everything worse… for me, the way he has acted, as our club captain…makes him as much or a villain as Cashley IMO… anyone agree?

Wow! Even though i knew what was coming it hurt as if a dagger went through my heart. But it is time to move on. The Manc supporters will have a field day for few weeks and then all the talking will be done on the pitch. I for one expect RVP to do well at Man U. Somehow, I feel if Giroud and Poldy had a price tag of £20 mil each then we would be raving all about them. The media would talk about us being “ambitious”! Also, I find it so funny when everybody mentions that we signed all this talent to keep RVP happy and make him stay with us. I think RVP misjudged his importance to the club to a certain extent and got caught in the hype surrounding his previous season.
AW signed all these players this season because he had money for such purchases. He also took a chance on Giroud because he was pretty certain that RVP would leave. So when he says that he has already bought the strikers then I believe he may be telling the truth. That is why he gagged RVP after the meeting so he could get Giroud quietly while there was uncertainty about RVP.
I feel we are being a bit unfair to Giroud. I think Wenger genuinely believes we can win the league without spending obscene amounts of money. He is basically trying to put all the pieces together in this jigsaw puzzle. Lot of people think that we are way behind the Manchester clubs. I beg to differ. I feel we will surprise everyone this year. The shitty media anyway can’t wait to bring us down but this time we will have the last laugh.
On a side note, I am surprised Clint Dempsey has fallen off the radar. What do other Gunners think if we bring him in? He will definitely add to the physical strength upfront. I know after losing RVP, he seems an underwhelming choice but I seriously believe that we need quality squad players and he would love to be part of a club like ours.

As much as i admire the quality of Van Persie i would say good riddance. He single handedly floated us to 3rd is a bit of a stretch. Arsene’s teams always scores goals be it Chamakh before RVP’s return, Adebayor, Eduardo and even Bendtner for a while. While we create a lot of chances some are bound to end in the back of the net. Its true that some of the goals he scored are truly magnificient like the one against Everton but there were lot of tap in’s aswell. When we sold Fab we lost our best player who couldnt be replaced, but right now i feel with the midfield we have got any decent striker with a good first touch can do the job. He scored 30 goals last season as he was the focal point of our attack. Our wingers were scared to shoot, our midfielders passed the ball to persie rather than take the shot themselves. So i dont think he could have scored 30 goals in any other setup. If he wants to leave to a club whose supporters call the person who bought him to london and carried him through his injury ridden phase a ‘pedophile’ , that shows his character and as i said earlier GOOD RIDDANCE.

I was really surprised to read on the BBC that RvP was open to the idea of staying on the back of the recent signings but Wenger took him to 1 side on Sunday and told him that he didn’t feature in his plans.
For me this is an excellent piece of business but unlike most people I don’t think the money earned from this sale needs to be invested in bringing a new striker to the club but should instead be used (in part) to tie Theo down to a new contract and I hope the managers plans for this season involve playing Theo more centrally this season.
