Arsene gets his excuses out for the lads

Arsene gets his excuses out for the lads

The obstacles hindering Arsenal’s progress in the transfer market appear to have doubled in recent days with Arsene Wenger hinting that not only are he and his team still pre-occupied with teaching Theo Walcott how to write his name, but that Dick Law and Ivan Gazidis have been drafted into the Colin-Lewin led medical team to help fix Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky.

“We are working very hard,” Wenger told Arsenal Player about the activity of the club’s hierarchy during January.

“First of all we want to sort out the injuries we have, and we are trying very hard to close the deal with Walcott.”

Tapping his nose as the soundtrack to the Pink Panther played in the background, the boss continued, “Once we have done that, we will certainly do something else. At the moment I cannot tell you more.”

Presumably Arsene’s talking about extending Ivan’s work experience. Perhaps giving him a run-out in the defensive midfield position with Dick being deployed in the Bergkamp role? Or maybe he’s just thinking about taking the gang out for dinner…who knows. In case you thought the boss was hinting at signing new players, he clarified that it’s difficult because we’re just so damned good already.

“It has become more difficult [to buy players in January] for one simple reason: we have a good squad. I know we swim against the stream a bit because people don’t believe that. I say we have a very good squad.

“But we have some improvements to make and we know exactly where. In January it is difficult to find the players that are really better and can give something special to the squad. The number is right, we have a good balance and we are working very hard to find what we want.”

Arseblog News sighs the most wistful of sighs. Wake us when time travel has been invented and we can go back to May 2004.

    • You carry on trying our patience Arsene.

We respect you but do not be fooled – If you fuck up this January window people will target you.

      Wake the fuck up.

      • I love the idea that we’re so busy negotiating a contract with Theo fucking Walcott that we can’t look for players. Can’t possibly, says Arsene, no time. Sorry guys.

Do you know how many non-footballing staff we employ at Arsenal? Are they really all just standing over Theo Walcott in a dark room giving him progressively more intense evils as he refuses, day after day, to sign a fucking piece of paper? Is that what we pay them all to do? How in the sweet fuck can a business worth upward of half a billion not organise two sporting deals at the same time?

I remember that when Cesc Fabregas left Wenger said the same thing, that we were too busy selling him to look outside. Beggars fucking belief.

Thumb up 56 Thumb down 1

      • It’s beyond fucking belief now.

There needs to be a complete boycott of all home games until the end of season, then they would get the message!

Show the ambition of a non league club, then you should have similar attendances.

Meanwhile ol’ bollock eyes at qpr is signing Yann m’villa and Loic Remy, both former Arsenal targets and both better than some of the shit we have.

Fuck Wenger and the cunt Board.

Thumb up 36 Thumb down 7

    • Agreed.

Seriously, Walcott is not worth this trouble. He is only good against teams with crap/exhausted defense, not the second coming of Theirry Henry like he thinks he is.

      • Walcott is now in a no win situation, he plays bad the fans will slaughter him because he’s not signed and when he does and plays bad he will be slaughtered for being a waste of money and also because Arsene is constantly linking new signings to wether theo signs or not, he wil get slaughtered for dragging it out and thus to blame for arsene not signing more players.
The fact is we need players regardless of what Walcott decides to do and arsene linking the two together is just rediiculas.
And arsene and Theo’s advisors are doing him no favours by dragging this out, it’s a shame but theo is going to get severe stick and will take a huge amount of the flack that will come arsenals way when this all goes pair shaped.

      Arsene in Wonder-land

      Arsene has (almost)landed,(face first!!)

Arsene the mocking bird(Arsene has made complete mockery of the collective intelligence of pundits, journos, fans and the players)

His quilt jacket is the alien technology space suit which in layman’s term is the bubble wrapped universe which keeps him detached from the reality.

Arsene wenger should be tested for dope and check his phone records whether he is secretly getting dope from Lance Armstrong. No one can be such high till now. Damn! this french dude is in the cloud no. 999999 and he just proclaimed that he will not rest till he gets Wilshere injured.

Damn! Wenger is one stubborn SOB, wish he was this stubborn to win the trophies.

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 15

    • Just curious Blogs, as I don’t know anything about the press corps who interview Arsene, but does he get away with these piffly statements because he doesn’t get answered the kind of question most fans of this site would like asked?

As in: “well, if this squad is good enough, how do you explain getting embarrassed by Bradford, being 21 points behind the leaders, and currently sitting in 6th place? You seem to be implying it must be your fault and not the team?”

Thumb up 44 Thumb down 1

  2. Yet another platitude this is getting very boring now Arsene

Thumb up 58 Thumb down 4

    • Didn’t he previously say something like ‘we look to strengthen in all areas’ a couple of weeks ago?

Now we know exactly where we need to strengthen.

Does that make an admission that we need to strengthen everywhere? I would put my house on us not doing that.

It would be nice for Wenger to stop talking in riddles, because they’re inconsistent at best. I really hope this seeming lack of singular purpose is only a result of him trying to be clever in press conferences, rather than a genuine indicator of what would be chronic indecision at the club over a period of years.

I’d like to believe the party-line, but Wenger must be intelligent enough to realise that such mixed messages damage credibility, and add fuel to the fire when success is found wanting.

Thumb up 28 Thumb down 0

      • He even said a couple of days ago – anyway it was reported last night – that we were going to ‘spend big on two players’.

Agree with you. Whoever’s in charge of the club’s diastrous PR should have had a word with him years ago because these nonsensical lies just make it sound like he’s taking the piss. Don’t suppose he means to show contempt for the fans by treating them as Alzheimers sufferers; I’d guess he’s just feeling under attack and thinks the lies will get the critics off his back and buy him more time. Still, it’s a disastrous mistake. Most fans if treated respectfully and honestly would take the situation on the chin and give the management and the team their support. Most fans just want us to do the best we can within our limited resources. It’s the lies and raising of false hopes that’s so damaging.

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 1

  3. By saying we have such a good squad surely he’s admitting the problem is managerial weakness in our current position.

I’m sadly losing faith in Wenger.

Thumb up 95 Thumb down 13

    • Chelsea have a great squad but have only won 1 of the last 5 home games they’ve had and won like 5 consecutive away games. They are a team that is usually great at home so what’s changed for them? The manager yes, but that’s short sighted. The fans have been getting on their back at home since rafa took over and they are finding it difficult to play at home. I think some of our fans need to take a long hard look in the mirror and support the team like we did in the second half against city. We played well and if it was 11 vs 11 I’m sure we could have gotten a win.obviously everything isn’t perfect at arsenal right now but we aren’t helping by getting on the players and managers backs. Doing this during the season is only going to make things worse and we should get behind them and keep cheering untill the end of the season. Then we can judge, then things will actually change if we end this season poorly but nothing will change now so get behind the team and give them some confidence.

Thumb up 89 Thumb down 17

      • so you have to ask question; “what’s alienating our fans, who is responsible for taking the money out of fan’s pocket and putting nothing back in.” We are the most loyal fans, paying over the odds season after season, more than any other club in the world and in return we are getting dross served week in a week out.

I have no hope for this club to win trophies with a consistency any time soon and there won’t be any next generation of supporters if the this expensive trneds continues.

Watch out for empty seats tonight!

Thumb up 42 Thumb down 7

      • I don’t disagree that we have very loyal fans. But it seems that a lot of fans are just waiting to murder a player, take Ramsey for example for a few mistakes. Admittedly he wasn’t playing well but recently, with a bit of confidence I might add he has come on and done well! Look at the ox aswell.. Remember him against Milan? Making runs winning a penalty where has he been? Surely it must be hard when the team gets thrashed for mistakes or losing a game that he doesn’t want to risk being on the end of it.. And it must be the same with some of the other players. They are only human! Look at stoke for a perfect example.. We are a better team than them theirs no denying that.. But the hadnt lost a game at home for almost a year untill Chelsea beat them te other day… Fucking stoke! It’s because their fans NEVER murder them for a mistake they are ALWAYS behind the team.

Thumb up 40 Thumb down 5

      • Our away fans are the best in the league And as loud as anyone, yet we don’t perform any better away than we do at home. So not sure you can equate support equals results in our case.
And as peterparker perfectly puts it, the club needs to ask itself what it is that’s upsetting the fans. The truth is the club and I include arsene it that, just do not give two fucks for the fans.

Thumb up 31 Thumb down 8

      • I never said support=results. I did say everything wasn’t perfect at Arsenal. Obviously there is some problems with the team but they are obviously low on confidence and scared of taking risks. Support doesn’t equate to results but it helps a lot. How freeing would it be as a footballer to be able to play your game without fear of the fans wanting you to die if you have a bad game. All I’m saying is support the team till a time when we can judge the season and actually change things as fans.. ie. the end of the season.

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 16

      • “Our away fans are the best in the league And as loud as anyone, yet we don’t perform any better away than we do at home.”

Maybe because they’re outnumbered by the home support?

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 15

      • Arsene and his people should get behind the fans and players too and sign players to improve what we have. i can’t blame the fans. year after year they keep cheering hoping for something to happen.

i do get your point but as long as the window is open and nothing is being done then i do understand the fans more. where is that “one or two?” when the window is closed i’ll stop moaning but as long as it’s open, sign a reyes, arshavin FFS.

Thumb up 24 Thumb down 0

      • Catsbiscuits.
The answer is no in most cases, arsenal ousting most home fans with the odd exception. You only have to go to the emerates to see that is also true of most away fans there and at a number of games.
All I’m saying is that for the majority of games arsenal fans get behind the team and if there is any discontent then it’s mostly heard at the end of the game anyway.
Go to old Trafford one day and you will see a totally crap atmosphere at most games yet the side perform despite the fans and not because of them. They perform because the manager demands it and he doesn’t see that a top four finish as the pinnacle of a season.

Thumb up 21 Thumb down 1

      • Jonire. I agree in a ideal world the fans and players would all be together, but how exactly do disgruntled arsenal fans who have seen thier best players sold year on year and now watch a struggling team that needs obvious reinforcements but are constantly either being lied to by the manager or are reading contradictory statements from one day to he next. How do they get thier feelings across that they are not happy ?
The end of the season is to late, what do they do turn up at an empty stadium when no games are on ? Or wait till the first few games of the season then vent thier anger only for you to say it shouldn’t be done at home games again.
What other opportunity do fans have to express thier feelings if not at the game they are attending. I don’t boo at games no matter how bad it is and never had, but I would never argue against someone who does when they have paid the crazy prices we do and just get treated with contempt by the board.

I’m a Wenger fan and have backed him to high ground when the lads at work give me stick. It’s got to the point where I don’t really know what to say. No logic to his comments or actions. The consipracy theories running through my head are insane.

Thumb up 25 Thumb down 15

  8. We don’t have a good sized squad. if that was the case we wouldn’t have to rush Diaby in at late notice with no fitness against the champions. We’d be giving Jack a rest and making sure he’s eased back in to the game rather than throwing him in at the deep end. We wouldn’t have to put Ramsay in at Attacking right and left. We wouldn’t bow to the ego of a winger who thinks he’s all of a sudden the best striker in the premiership.

For fuck sake Arsene this is getting boring now. We’re light of quality at the back, we light on midfielders and we’re light of quality in attack. i don’t understand why nothing is being done about this, will someone please get Gazidis to give us a fucking explanation.

Watch us crash out this evening, lose to Chelsea, draw with West Ham and then panic buy…..ending up with Diame and a striker from Evian FC’S B team…..PATHETIC

Thumb up 148 Thumb down 5

  9. Let’s hear some names then who do people actually think he should buy? Prerequisite of course is players that might want to join us, clubs might want to sell them, and of course must be special quality!

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 2

    • Either Baines or Fellaini from Everton for starters.

I can’t believe that Sneijder is going to Galatasaray without anyone else making a move. He would provide a great rotating option for Jack and Santi.

      M’villa?

Thumb up 24 Thumb down 3

      • Yeah lets pay him 200 000 in wages a week, just to rotate him

Thumb up 54 Thumb down 5

Everton have stated that they will not sell anybody in this transfer window.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 10

      • The point is, you’d have 3 top midfielders so that one could be rested and you’d have back up for injury.

Do you not think Santi looks knackered?

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 0

      • @DoubleDoubleDouble. Not quite. David Moyes has said that he is ‘not looking to sell anyone’. That’s very different.
Fellaini has said that he wants to leave. If we don’t make a move, you can be sure that Chelsea will and we’ll all be kicking ourselves again….

Thumb up 18 Thumb down 1

      • Sneijder is reportedly taking a big pay cut to join the Turks (100-120 grand a week are the figures being thrown around). So basically the combined wages of Djourou and Chamakh. Sounds like a bargain.

Thumb up 16 Thumb down 0

      • shuggietodd. I don’t see why Fellaini would leave Everton to join Arsenal? We are below them in the League. Champions League will attract him, maybe. But there is no promise of that next year! We could have bought Ba! I don’t know why Wenger says its hard to find good talent when Chelsea pick a player up like him for £7mil. He’s just being stingy with the cash! The players are there to buy.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

      • If you can’t see the attraction of Arsenal over Everton then you could be on the wrong website!

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

    • FFS Just Get FELLAINI. Arsene you are looking like you havnt got a clue. HOW has Rednapp signed REMY & M’VILA for QPR? WHY are we being fucked about by Walcott, and WTF has that got to do with us not REPLACING Diaby with someone who doesn’t need a fucking wheelchair

Thumb up 45 Thumb down 3

      • In fairness Remy is being paid a 6 figure sum and has been useless this season. I’d rather Arsene dodge that one.

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 1

      • but how does Rednapp, sitting bottom of the leauge make signing players look so easy, when with us it’s ‘cant find the quality.. he’s a million above what we think he’s worth.. we’ve already got a good squad.. ect ect ?

Thumb up 17 Thumb down 0

      • To be fair Redknapp does have a habit of bankrupting clubs, then running off into the sunset cackling and twitching.

Thumb up 15 Thumb down 0

      • Redknapp has always managed at clubs run by one super-involved owner who ‘Arry has convinced to bankroll squad makeovers. Along with suspicions and rumors of brown paper bags of cash changing hands, it’s no mystery as to why this always happens wherever Redknapp manages.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

    • Adrian Lopez – a striker with some pace that isn’t a complete lazy pussy who shies out of every chase and tackle like Wallcock.

A DM – Much as I like Arteta, he is not a DM. There are plenty of available DMs out there, if QPR can get Yann M’Vila for £8M I find it hard to see how we can’t afford to hijack that bid, and M’Vila would much rather play for us than them. Plus, it pisses off ‘Arry. Etienne Capoue is also an option.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 1

  10. Why the hell do we need to wait to get injuries sorted? isn’t that a reason TO buy? Why can’t we do things at the same time? At the moment we don’t go into the market because Theo dont want to sign and we have injuries, ye that sounds very logical Arsene.

Thumb up 35 Thumb down 0

  11. ” In January it is difficult to find the players that are really better and can give something special to the squad”

Then you’re not looking hard enough! Sometimes you need to cut your losses. What’s the point of having players in the squad who are not deemed good enough to actually be used?

Would Matthieu Debuchy not have improved the squad? How come he’s going to Newcastle? Would Diame or Sneijder not improve the squad?

And what about decent back up for Chesney?

Thumb up 38 Thumb down 1

    • For all my frustrations, when I see how John Cross tells open and barefaced lies on the back page of the Mirror like he did today, I can fully sympathise with Arsene Wenger’s cliche-filled, less-than-forthcoming approach with the press.

Thumb up 33 Thumb down 1

      • DoubleDoubleDouble

I had a look at the Mirror piece online, and there is a reply from the fabulously named Minh-Quan Hussein Nguyen, that completely destroys John Cross’ article in three paragraphs.

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 1

      • @DoubleDoubleDouble: I see what you mean.

For my part, I have to admit that I don’t mind John Cross generally. He seems like a level-headed/reasonable guy on Twitter (always a good test given the number of trolls around) and there’s no question he’s an Arsenal fan who loves the club. So I find it very disappointing that he would plumb the depths with an article in which he made obviously false claims about what Wenger said. We’re all frustrated, but putting words in Wenger’s mouth like that and pretending he actually said those things just isn’t on.

  16. Le Nutty Professeur Wenger: both Mourinho and Guardiola will be available and gagging at a chance to come to England in June. Please don’t make Arsenal miss this once-in-a-decade opportunity just because you “always honour your contracts”.

Collectively, I’m sure the Arsenal fans are willing to donate GBP7.5mm of their own cash to compensate you for the last year of the contract.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 31

    • Puhleez. Mourinho to succeed Wenger? Never gonna happen. Look at his track record. The only places he manages are the clubs who are considered among the richest in their respective country ( this includes Porto) AND unless he gets the license to spend what he wants on whomever he wants, he can’t function (remember why he left Chelsea?) Guardiola? Unless he’s looking for a challenge and the board would allow him to re tool Arsenal to his liking with full cooperation from the board, I don’t see that happening either.

  22. Why is my name required

Wow. What a waste of time. If your not going to buy then just admit it straight to the fans and stop the repeated bullshit that we keep hearing all the time. Same old shit for the 8th time. My ears are sick hearing all those load of bollocks.

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 4

  23. Arsene uses the media for what it is, a pack of headline grabbing cunts serving a limited purpose.
He will always back his players publicly. I for one don’t mind as long as he pulls some rabbits out of his hat before feb 1.

Thumb up 25 Thumb down 1

    • Big Chief from Antarctica

Exactly. If it weren’t for the cunts that call themselves journalists, I too would get annoyed/frustrated/bewildered by Wenger comments. I’ll judge Wenger on his deeds rather than his words.

For his sake though, I hope he does something this transfer window, I’m one of the biggest Wenger fans out there.. but he isn’t doing himself any favours with empty words.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 1

  24. There are a multitude of players to buy but the biggest problem is the useless players we have on our books. I know people blame Wenger for that but we need to sign Dennilson, Nik et al to stupid contracts because we didn’t have money to go out buying, just facts, no one is to blame.
We roled the dice on the stadium, debt etc and taking the new wave of investors out of the picture, we would probablly have won a thing or two but the FA, FIFA and the rest are too scared to actually impliment the FFP so we are stuck with mid-table budget if that.
I am as frustrated as the next fan but we just don’t have the funds. If we did we would buy. It is not announced openly to try and keep the players from walking out or for other teams to steal every asset available.
Theo needs to go, he really is a waste of time and the only thing I would like to see happen is he is signed to a contract extention and sold the next day for as much money as we could steal from a team. Really is not talented at all. I would rather we sign Usain Bolt.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 7

    • GiveMeWhatWengersSmoking

We don’t have the funds? Even though everyone says there’s cash available according to the club’s very own accounts statement? I find that very hard to believe.

The only thing I can say in Wenger’s defence is he wants to save the cash for the next manager who will be coming this summer.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 8

      • We have money but Everton type of Money and all the fans are hoping/praying/believing that we have Man City money. It is and never will be true.

It is always the case that the money we have includes contract extentions, signing on fees, etc so when the accounts say 70mil in the bank, it really means close to 20mil to spend on transfer fees I suspect.

We are not a sugar daddy club and will hopefully remain that way.

I hate the way that Wenger keeps getting hung out to dry and he then passes the bullsh*t our way too. We cannot compete with the Oligarc, Shiek teams at the moment. FIFA needs to get this in order before the fans start walking away.

Arsenal needs to stop raising the prices of the tickets to play catch up and either complain to FIFA and make it known that the game is going down a poisioned road.

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 3

    • only if we can get rid of following super quality players for ever (Fabianski, Djourou, Squalacci, Santos, Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Arshavin, Chamakh, Park, NB52) we could releas between 30-35 million/year worth funding plus whatever transfer fee that comes our way. Use the existing funds plus the wage room to get players to complement existing core.

Please don’t compare us to Everton, there is wage bill is almost a third to ours, even less than spuds. if they can have competitive teams with that bugets why this club has to spend 152 million on dross in front of us.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

      • I understand the issue about the wage bill but as I said I think that was a role of the dice, theat went wrong but it was the only option open to Wenger at the time. Remember that Cesc was on a high wage at a young age and Dennilson was producing at the beginning, som much so that most would have driven Gilberto to the airport as he was too slow to keep up with our game.
I just hope that we learn our lesson and move Theo on asap. He is a Larry Leadfoot, has the control of a brick wall.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  25. When I first heard about Ox being considered to sign for Arsenal, I saw some videos and I thought, man, we have the next Messi. In his first season, he almost showed that potential. Somehow, those kind of performances and that spark is just not there. Same is the case with Gervinho. This was a player, whose transfer took almost a month, was considered so good that we considered him ahead of Hazard to be that “exceptional player” to be added to this equally “exceptional squad”. Already people are screaming for his forehead. When I use to see Arteta at Everton, I almost held my breath when he too free kicks and he an exceptional quality of giving out those through balls…and it’s not just with these players, you could find others too.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Arteta and Ox, but somehow, that fire is subdued somewhat. Is it dying?

Thumb up 17 Thumb down 2

    • At the end of a decent first season the Ox should have just been told, “Well done. Keep it up.” Instead, he was handed a ridiculous pay 300% rise. His form then fell away and now he has become yet another mediocrity. That’s what happens when you don’t make players earn their wages.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 6

    • My God, Chamberlain had *two* excellent performances last season: 60 minutes against Man United and the first half against Milan (both around February). He’s a kid that’s shown some promise, no more, no less. The reason he hasn’t lived up to your hype is because that hype was delusional.

Thumb up 15 Thumb down 0

  26. Same old same old, arsene u cunt! Should have left 4 years ago mate! Now fuck off!

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 27

  27. Its time to get off Wengers back and start writing for the 90% of Arsenal fans who support the club, manager and players through thick and thin, not Johnney come lately pseudo fans and bloggers, all right thinking fans know things don’t go well all the time, clubs have good runs and bad times, proper fans (and Bloggers) stay loyal , Drama Queens and fakes, make out they know better, if you complain long enough someday the glory will come back,if you support the same will happen.

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 25

    • So do nothing then? Like the good workers at HMV, just keep going to work day after day, wear your namebadge with pride, the CEO must know what he’s doing, right?

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 3

    • GiveMeWhatWengersSmoking

I find it insulting that just because we believe Wenger to be past his sell by date, don’t assume that we are not genuine supporters of this club. I’ve supported this club since the 80s, and we were here before Wenger, and we’ll be here after that to.

At the end of the day Wenger, and to a large extent the board also, have made massive mistakes in the running of this football club. Wenger is not interested in using the resources available in the best way possible, so he is no longer the man for this job.

If he’s saving the money for the next manager, then maybe I can excuse him that, but even in the football side of things the individual errors, bad defending, lack of rotation, lack of motivation, these are all things he has failed to address, and in the end money is irrelevant to how the side is prepared.

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 5

    • Just a membership number

Everybody supports the THE CLUB and we want what is best for it.

Nobody not even Arsene is bigger than the club. So if he is at fault then we have every right to be on his back.

Your blind faith in the set up does not make you a more loyal supporter.

Thumb up 19 Thumb down 1

  28. M’Villa & Remy – two players that have been constantly linked to Arsenal look set to go to QPR. What on earth has ‘Arry offered them that would entice them to go to a club currently sitting 20th in the Premier League?

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 0

  29. Good God why would you want to go back to 2004?! You’d have all thes last few years of shit to do AGAIN!

Personally I don’t think the players are the problem. I think the formation, tactics and management are. Otherwise how could awesome players like Podolski and Cazorla look so ineffectual? Wenger’s tried to rebuild this team three times since we last won anything….. All we are doing buy buying more players is making it easier for him to sell our best year after year.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 1

  30. If we don’t make signings then we won’t finish in the top four – it’s as simple as that.

Thumb up 17 Thumb down 2

  31. Waiting for Theo to sign before making any signings makes a lot of sense, we have only waited for him to sign for about 18 months! What will be your next excuse? Waiting till Sagna signs? And then we will wait for Diaby to come from injury?

Everyone but you seems to know that we need a couple of signings cause

    A. We need a bigger squad to be able to rest others, prevent injuries
    B. Some of our players aren’t quite as good as you make out them to be

Its good to have faith in your squad but Arsene needs to wake up, and i’m quite sure there ser a LOT of players that can make us better, otherwise this continuing downfall will go on.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 1

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 6

  36. Yeah… I wont take anymore of wenger’s excuses…. Top managers are available…. Refresh the club… Bring in a new manager.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 2

  40. Tick tock, tick tock.

That’s time running out, as we approach what really looks like being a final transition into bog-standard, mid-table, making-up-the-numbers football. Seems there is a growing fear that if this January inactivity persists, we won’t make next years CL, and attracting the necessary talent to improve will be even harder.

There is a higher proportion of anti-Wenger statements than I can ever recall. I really hope he pulls something out of his long lost magic hat! Come on Arsenal!

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 1

  41. We must sign now, otherwise we won’t be able to attract the right players when were not in the champions league!

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 1

  42. Arsenal…..the new Liverpool

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 8

  43. It is possible that the club are holding off signing another forward until after Wacott is signed up as to do so now may frighten him off signing as it may make him feel that his demand to be the main striker in a 4-5-1 may not be met if there is a high profile arrival.

If that is the case then it is a high risk strategy as Walcott may leave the club high and dry by moving on to another club in the final days of the transfer window with little time to sign a replacement.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  44. If he always looked for and signed super quality players and persumably this balanced squad is full of those, why we are where we are in the league at the moment? Could someone ask this idiot this question please

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 5

  45. Dont u know that this idiot has 30 years experience managing at the top level? What do u have to qualify u asking that question? Huh? 30 years okkkkkm?

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 5

  46. The ultimate ‘spin doctor’ AW appears to contradict himself, yet again. His condescending remarks regarding his superior knowledge of the game and the excellence of this squad are jist downright ridiculous. He constantly proves he has no ‘defensive’ knowledge of the gameand the fact that no other team wants to buy the loaned players just goes to show they are plain average. Did you know that eay back in the summer je actually daid that if he couldn’t sign the players he wanted th, he would do it in January. He talks utter bollocls. I’ll only forgive him if he signs Fellaini otherwise GO Arsen we’re all nored of ypur spin.

  51. What’s so strange is if the club is to be run on a “strong financial footing” the NOT spending is detrimental to the future finances of AFC. If they don’t spend on new quality signings the money we lose by not being in the Champs League is far more damaging. We end up buying average players and are unable to get back in to the top 4.
It’s like the club is run on the worst case scenario.
The next 3-4 years could be determined by the next two weeks.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 1

I’m going to concentrate my attention to arsenal ladies. It’s still the arsenal but without the head and heart aches.

Well at least until the men sort themselves the fuck out!

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

  53. We should have sold Walcott in the Summer when he refused to sign the deal that was offered. Since then the club has bent over backwards to accommodate his every whim except for his ridiculous wage demands, and he still refuses to sign. Now he knows that if he hangs on to the rest of the season he can cash in with a Bosman.

Meanwhile, Arsene is hanging all his hopes on Walcott signing very much like he hopes Diaby will remain fit for a lengthy period. Both are extremely unlikely. This is clouding his judgement and stopping him from making the necessary additions to the squad. It smacks of indecision and a lack of preparation for an adverse event (namely Walcott not signing and Diaby getting injured again).

Ultimately, if Arsene is incapable of making a tough decision or responding in a positive manner to events, on and off the pitch, then it really is time for him to step aside.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 1

  54. I’m pretty sure everyone now knows we’re not going to sign anyone?
So what lies ahead, surely with the current squad 4th place is too much to ask. We’ve had the least amount of injuries in a season that I can remember, but has the squad ever looked smaller?
It’s getting harder to defend the Arsenal,we’re not being run into the ground, but where are we being ran to

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 3

  57. I have always wanted him to change – not change him – Arsene loves Arsenal but I am losing faith with his double-speak.

He must genuinely believe that the squad is good enough, and certainly better than most other people do, because the alternative explanations are just too bizarre to contemplate.

There would appear to be a lot wrong at The Arsenal, and a lack of direction on the playing side.

Arsene is making my head hurt these last few years. Sad, frustrating times.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 1

  58. “I say we have a very good squad” <– biggest problem right there! You say! Well the results we're seeing sure as fuck don't show it! Also, that's in an ideal world where they are all 100% healthy. Which rarely happens for Arsenal.

There comes a point when one must swallow their pride, admit defeat & move on. I'm not saying Arsene needs to leave but I am saying he has got to admit things aren't working as is and make changes. Some players have to be cut lose (whether at a loss or not) and replaced with quality. Any good leader recognizes a problem and doesn't place blame on anything, he works on what he can do to fix the problem. TV5 needs to be a better captain too!

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 1

  59. Fuck this shit!!!! i blame cesc for our problems this team was supposed to be built for and around him. then he left and we cant recover. if cesc stayed maybe others would have but most importantly we would have still the 3/4th best midfielder in world football playing for us whilst sticking 2 fingers up to barca….. cesc i wona have a word with u son. the arsene!!

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 1

    • Cesc left how many years ago? The problem is that a player of his caliber (which is rare) wasn’t brought in to make up for the loss. Santi is in my opinion very close to Cesc in terms of ability, vision, etc and needs better players around him (as Cesc had). The manager & board are to be blamed for not replacing him right away.

…so we can experience this painful transition all over again?

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  61. Arsene thinks that we are where we are in the league becuase the squad is still findining it’s feet. Giroud, Podolsk and Carthola are new. Wilshire is still getting back to sharpness, AW references this point frequently; Diaby, Rosicky too. The young UK core is maturing and developing. He has said that he has identified the targets needed but I suspect he would rather, or is only able too, go for them in the summer. He doesn’t want to buy filler in Jan instead. For me the problem is puting up with Walcott is unacceptable and that the last set of young guys we were all waiting for have left.

I also think their shoud be more rotation for Cathola and Arteta but I can see how Wilshire is becoming more energitic and can prob go on a run of games- to not do so might be counterproductive.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  62. Arsene's Bored Banker

I actually read this article with a serene smile on my face.

I have no idea why. It’s strange.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 1

  63. I don’t understand people clamoring for Sneijder, another Dutch mercenary, or the “sign ANYBODY” logic when the squad has a few too many nobodies already.

The ranks ARE thin, our position is worrisome, doom, etc., but I’d rather not prolong the misery by signing unmovable players just because they’re warm bodies and can run around a bit.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 1

    • the only sam is nelson

too many people seem to think that the massive echo-chamber that is the interwebs means that unless we buy anybody the arsenal will be condemned to eternal mid table mediocrity

these people should be locked in a dark room with a copy of the seminal Saint and Greavsie video “Arsenal’s top 5 games of the 80s” on permanent loop. if i remember correct it featured a 1-0 home win against Southampton. And no European games.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 2

  64. Everything Wenger does make perfect sense if one accepts this simple premise: He operates under severe financial restrictions but has agreed with the board to give the public impression that he has ample funds, should he need them.

His record over the past 8 trophyless years is still remarkable compared to any manager operating under similar financial pressure.

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 4

    • There is no doubt that during the stadium thing this is true. An indication is also that they front loaded funds from the new advertising deals. I think that money, that has been well managed in the past and from the new deals, is there now and AW wants to spend it wisely- hence the hesitation and preference to not deal in Jan.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 2

  65. So Redknapp without any problems in the world can sign M’Villa and Remy, but we cannot find anyone of quality to sign – Um – Arsene, what about M’Villa or Remy ???

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 1

    • You’ll only drive yourself nuts with these expectations, he doesn’t want m’villa; that’s why he’s never coming. Maybe he doesn’t want to spend 10m (or whatever) if it eats into the summer budget for Goetze (or whoever he wants). If M’villa is so good then why is he going to QPR? Do you want QPR players?

  69. Buy FELLAINi FELLAINI FELLAINI forget diaby just FELLAINI keep the rest and add a quick winger/forward David villa be perfect will teach theo where to run. Believee we will then be challenging straight away. Fellaini is a monster gives us what we don’t have the viera presence. Sign Zaha if he is cheap as well. Let bould take training with defence te team will have balance if he plays through the middle. Shift cazorla to the wing podolski or Walcott or the other rotate giroud and Villa/Walcott up front. Rotate villa and podolski on left.. Loads of possibilities. Then heaven forbid diaby stays fit we have two genuine driven midfielders in fellaini and diaby. We would win most games loads of power. Then play jack in the important games. Come on Arsene were not miles off a 30 million Fellaini and 12 million villa. Perhaps 8 million on Zaha. Then we have a young squad who will be awesome for the next five years. Will just need defensive organisation from bouldy. In summer flog the dross to recoup some money. Keep the best players and sign a goalie capable goalie who will put pressure on ws1 please. This isn’t a pipe dream surely we pay crazy money and we deserve this calibre of player. U need some faces in dressing room when the big games come along that will put there hand up amd say I’m ready for this then the others follow at the mo only jack is doing this u need three or four all the time….. Spend fifty million also the wages of these players are also going to be within our budget as I hear villa is willing I come in line with our wages just to play. I hear people say Diame, remy m villa debuchy Olson. WeDONT NEED any more mediocre players as there not better then what we have believe me that’s just fans being desperate granted Zaha would be a gamble the other two are not. That’s what we need two major impact players….please god if your up there let this happen….world is miserable place whe arsenal are shit….we love u arsenal

I m sick of waiting and watching averege players in Arsenal.

At the moment the frustrations are being heard through social media sites like these. They can be ignored by the club to a degree as the embarrassment is not in there faces. But like the black scarf march and the fact that tonight’s game will only be half full the embarrassment is becoming a little more obvious. It’s also adding to the people that were unsure about wenger amd clubs ideals. Please stop gambling with your fans as the shit u are doing now will have affects on us for years to come. No young children you see over last few years are arsenal fans….the negativity that follows us….. The media laughing at us…… Arsene says he wants to set us up for years to come…..well he gave us the dam base with world stars but every time u sold one u lost loads each time. May 2004 for me just brings one more flukey, albeit thoroughly enjoyable, FA Cup win, then 8 years of seeing the man at the helm disappear up his own FFP backside and let every one of our top players leave cheaply (Cesc, Vieira and Henry I mean) we got good fees for Hleb etc.

I love Arsenal, I really do, but someone is sitting idly by while we drift into mugsmasher oblivion.

  77. this is just pathetic. I really can’t stand the anti-Wenger brigade but I simply can’t believe there isn’t that ‘exceptional quality’ out there.

We need another striker, defensive mid and keeper as soon as possible. We also need fullbacks but I think it’s a bit less essential. The club is a joke, I can barely be bothered to watch the games let alone consider paying to go see the games at the moment and it’s every season now. Call me a fair-weather fan if you want but I don’t get much enjoyment out of blindly following Arsenal when the players hardly deserve to wear the shirts on their backs. The football isn’t worth watching half the time and I don’t enjoy ruining my weekend mornings any more.

Why aren’t we signing M’Villa!? I’d have even taken Sturridge and any number of players. I just don’t know what’s going on with the club and I’m fed up on being lied to. I’m convinced the problems lie at board level but my faith in the professor is certainly waning.

  80. He's got no hair but we don't care...

The issue regarding being driven mad with transfer expectations is a direct result of the manager/club and their ever changing stance.

First we will definitely do business.
Then we are looking in ‘all’ positions.
Then we need to concentrate on keeping the players we have.
Then maybe one or two ‘top top top’ players if they’re available.
Then back again to we will do business but only after TW signs.

Just say we ‘re NOT signing anyone. We’re not clueless gimps/sp*rs fans, we’re an intelligent and realistic bunch.

We know we’re desperate and we know the club will sign no-one. Just tell us that and get on with beating swansea.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  81. Sounds like AW spinning the same old lines, the fact is Arsenal have been hamstrung financially since around 2005 when paying for the new stadium meant breaking up the invincibles far too early, ever since AW has had to tread a fine line between keeping his players happy and confident and telling the truth.

Can you imagine if when Arsenal where letting the likes of Berkamp,Henry and pires go AW had been honest with the fans and said ” Ok Flamini is shit compared to Viera, but we don’t have a pot to piss in and Flamini is 70K a week cheaper!”.

I don’t think that would have helped the club through the difficult years that have followed,

financially times are changing at Arsenal and we are getting stronger, It wasn’t very long ago that people were gnashing their teeth that they are sick of the Youth team experiment, But in the last two summers we have brought in almost an entire teams worth of experienced mid twenty something players, some of whom have been good and some have been shite, I think we will see the squad strengthened over the next couple of summers so long as we can clear out the deadwood.

The thing that worries me most isn’t the money we spend or the players we buy, it’s the person responsible for instilling a winning team mentality into the players, I honestly don’t believe that AW is the man to do this, the fact is he inherited a Winning team when he came to Arsenal and as he brought in players to augment and eventually replace the George Graham squad those players learned from a group of players with that winning mentality, since AW had to break up the invincibles he has not managed to instill that winning mentality in any of the squads he has assembled since.

This isn’t Wenger bashing, I think the man deserves more credit for way he has helped the club prepare for this century ( and there will still be The Arsenal and the end of it) however I would be happy to see the man move upstairs to Director of football while bringing in a motivator of a manager.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  82. This has reached the point of pure fucking ridiculousness. Every word that comes out of AW’s mouth nowadays is insulting in the extreme. We all desperately want the team to be improved upon but he’s showing he’s more than content with how things are going.

My heart sank today when I read that Pep was going to Bayern. Not that we would’ve got him anyways but still. Now its about finding a way to accept another year and a half of downward spiraling, at the very least.

The least he could do now is to shut up unless he’s trying to deliberately piss off the fans. Fucking sad that it has come to this. Stop the lies and own up and tell if the club doesn’t have the resources to compete if it is so and most of us would begrudgingly accept it. It’s the false hope that really kills.

  86. @nick
mate i agree with the whole ‘we should have replaced him’ comment but look cesc was brought in to replace vieira and a team was built for him hleb replaced ljungberg, rosciky replaced pires reyes was supposed to be henrys but he decided to fuck his career up! Flamini got the nod over silva just because he complimented cescs game better. the teams transition was supposed to be only 4-5 years in terms of challenging for trophies not money..
We were close 2008 we gave the title away (clichys stupid 93rd min foul/penalty at birmingham) then again in 2010 and finally 2011. Then cesc left.. he should have been more determined than ever of helping us get back to being the best not jump on a bigger ship. We deserved more

  88. Time travel has been invented but the loop is too short to reach back to 2004.

  89. Wenger is liar!!!! that’s all!
I had respect for him but no longer….
he did well in the past I will never forget it but now he kills this club because he has old men mental problems I mean thinking: ‘I know better everything’ !!!! no matter what happen!!!
    but we see what!!!..

I know he will out he’s contract so I’ll be waiting.
and I want add that there is many good managers – not only mourinho or guardiola – who can do well at Arsenal!!!!
    sooner or later….

  90. Bring Usmanov in. I’m getting tired with the Americans. I still believe in Wenger. I think there’s something that he’s not tell us.

  91. like most people, i’m very, very frustrated by this; infuriated, even. it is agonising. but we need to keep some perspective and context. the damage this season was done in summer. a january spending spree of (probably) decent-but-not-great players is not going to save this season. whatever happens in january, we are not winning the league. we are not winning the champions’ league. either way, we have a chance of winning the fa cup. it’s a very, very difficult time to be an arsenal fan. but the truth is, whilst wenger has money, he does not have as much as some fans seem to think. we can afford decent players, but we can’t afford galacticos. wenger says we’ll only buy top, top quality – but we can’t afford top, top quality so we wait for a cut price deal. rvp left because we couldn’t afford him anymore. financial fair play will help us if it’s ever implemented – but let’s not forget, we’d have still lost van cunt. with our budget and the bottomless pit of cash at man city, chelsea and (to some extent) man u, i am sceptical that there are many managers who could do better than wenger. i don’t take pleasure in saying that as i’m as pissed off as anyone, but i think deep down, we all know that arsenal is not able to go and make a £50m signing and pay the wages that go with that…
