Jernade Meade’s ill ligament

Jernade Meade’s ill ligament

Young left-back Jernade Meade caught the eye this season. Not just because his football shorts look gigantic on him, but because of his all-energy appearances in the first team.

The youngster made an impressive cameo in the remarkable 7-5 win over Reading in the Capital One Cup, before making his full debut away at Olympiacos in the Champions League.

But his progress was halted by a training ground injury, as he explained to ‘Luton on Sunday’ (funnily enough, on a Friday).

“My right foot just went,” he said. “I heard a pop and thought I had broken it. I went for an X-ray and it wasn’t broken, which was good. But the MRI showed I had snapped a ligament and sometimes a break can be better than ligament damage as they take ages to heal.

“I recovered well the first few days but now it’s at a standstill. I used to be quite injury prone, especially in my first year. This is my first one big one in a while.

“I reckon I’ll be back for three for four weeks. It’s come at the wrong time as I was hoping to go out on loan or train with the first team.”

With loans open to lower league clubs even after the January window closes, let’s hope he can get himself fit and play some first team football.

  1. Oh dear. Hope he gets back soon to carry on with his development. He looks like a good prospect.

In other news, I just saw on the official site that now Wenger is even comparing Giroud to Alan Smith! It seems to be a growing trend. I think something AAllen said about him running like an ostrich was what popped that thought into my mind. I always thought Smudger was a bit ostrichy too.

  2. i want to boff giroud and im not even gay

He looks to have a bit about him that lad. He’s nice on the ball, and I love seeing a full back that snaps quickly into the tackle. Like a certain former arsenal left back who left to win cups and become one of englands best ever players

  3. A good prospect ? Don’t go shouting that too loud because Arsenal will sell him..

  4. A loan to the championship would be excellent for him.

What, to a championship club Joe, or just lend him generally to the championship,so the powers that be there can keep him in a cupboard in the office?

  6. ‘used to be quite injury prone’. ……….. you’re at the right club, fella!

On a more positive note, he looks quite a prospect but he’s tiny so I’ll expect to see him at centre back in Arsene’s continuing ’round hole/square peg’ project.

  7. He looks good but concern is his height. He really is quite small. That has to be an issue when defending at set pieces. Ashley Cole struggled in the air at time when with Arsenal and England.

    • Ashley Cole struggled and he is still 16cms taller than Meade. I am a bit unsure of what to think about him as a defender .

  8. better than santos, fitter than santos, faster than santos and less likely to ask rvp for his shirt at half time compared to santos.

  9. Spot on i would take him over santos all day long. i just dont get wenver he raves about our youngsters and academies but buys average foreign imports rather than giving the boys more of a chance. i want to see more like wilshire rolling of tge.conveyor belt. miquel > squillaci meade > santos and eisfeld > arshavin. ok they might not be better but lets give.him an opportunity
