Match Report: Arsenal 0-2 Manchester City

Match Report: Arsenal 0-2 Manchester City

Arsenal struggled to recover from an early Laurent Koscielny red card as Manchester City scored twice in the first half to seal their first win away against the Gunners since 1975. James Milner and Edin Dzeko did the damage for the visitors after the latter had had an early penalty well saved by Wojciech Szczesny.

Despite a spirited showing and raucous support from the Emirates crowd Arsene Wenger’s side couldn’t find a way to break down a stubborn City defence even when referee Mike Dean gave Vincent Kompany his marching orders with ten minutes to go.

The big pre-game team news centred on Abou Diaby’s inclusion in the starting line-up after Mikel Arteta picked up an injury in training yesterday. At the back Thomas Vermaelen returned to the side in place of Per Mertesacker, Theo Walcott started up front and Olivier Giroud took a seat on the bench after a late fitness test on his gashed knee. The above wasn’t particularly relevant for long.

A fine block from Vermaelen deflected a David Silva effort over the bar as City asserted themselves on the game early before Mike Dean made the visitors’ job a lot easier by sending off Laurent Koscielny for an innocuous coming together with Edin Dzeko in the box on 8 minutes.

At first you couldn’t tell what the referee had blown for as Szczesny punched the ball off Tevez’s head to clear the danger. Subsequent replays showed the Frenchman grappling the Bosnian striker to the floor denying him a clear goal scoring opportunity. The card, the fifth in the last six meetings between the sides, was probably fair although it didn’t stop us complaining vehemently.

Amazingly Szczesny pulled off a remarkable double save from the resulting penalty. First he used his legs to deflect Dzeko’s strike onto the post then the Pole managed to grab the ball as it raced across the goal line. The Emirates erupted with defiant roars.

Unfortunately, the reprieve was only temporary. Chamberlain was immediately sacrificed for Mertesacker as Wenger shuffled the pack but our players looked dazed and confused. At a time when we needed to keep our heads we did anything but.

It was annoyingly unsurprising when we finally conceded and although Dean played his part – blowing for a silly foul by Podolski – we really brought about our own downfall. Rather than organise the defence Vermaelen turned his back on the game after his complaints fell on deaf ears. Seeing a gap in the centre of our defence Barry acted quickly by slipping the ball to Silva who in turn found Tevez and finally Milner who slapped home a vicious strike off Szczesny’s post and in. 1-0.

We really struggled to make any headway in the final third in the first half hour as we battled a City side marshalled by the impressive Vincent Kompany. Walcott did fire high and wide from a corner on 16 minutes, but his effort was representative of his performance as a whole.

He wasn’t the only one not performing to the necessary standards; 50-50 challenges were lost all over the pitch one of which, between Zabaleta and Gibbs, directly led to City’s second. The Argentine crunched into a challenge, fed James Milner and the England man drove a wicked ball across the box which Tevez tapped goalwards. Szczesny did well to stop the initial shot but could only watch helplessly as Dzeko tucked home the rebound from a yard. 2-0.

Diaby and Podolski both had efforts of varying quality as we ralied, but in truth as the half-time whistle approached we were lucky not to be further behind. Only Wilshere’s header off the line prevented Dzeko getting his second while a frustrated Vermaelen picked up a yellow for a cynical challenge on the physical striker.

Dzeko and Milner continued to cause havoc after the break, the Bosnian again close to adding to his tally with a header, before the crowd was given a lift by a driving run by Wilshere, a blocked Gibbs effort and Giroud replacing the ineffective Podolski.

Having struggled to maintain defensive discipline at 0-0 it was predictable that gaps appeared at the back as we became increasingly desperate and gung-ho going forward. City seemed happy enough to pick us off on the break and on more than one occasion it took desperate last ditch challenges to stop killer City balls reaching their intended target in and around the six-yard box. When Tevez did get free one-on-one with Szczesny he was denied by some fantastic goalkeeping.

Milner, Wilshere and Zabaleta picked up bookings and Ramsey entered the fray in place of the tiring Diaby but we didn’t really test Joe Hart despite trying to hit long balls to Giroud. The Frenchman had a fantastic chance to reduce the deficit with 18 minutes remaining but he could only head over from when the goal was beckoning.

With 16 minutes remaining the catcalls from the Emirates crowd finally paid off as Mike Dean cracked under pressure and sent off Kompany for what was deemed a two-footed challenge on Wilshere. It was free-kick, maybe a booking but not a red.

The question was whether Arsenal could get a quick goal to set up a tense last ten minutes. Mertesacker was deployed as an auxiliary striker as the tactics book (if there was one being used) went out of the window. Unfortunately, despite winning the ball time after time our lofted passes into the penalty area met with little success. It was as spirited as it was exasperating from the Gunners.

In the final minute Walcott finally got free behind the City defence but even though his low drive beat Hart it was cleared off the line by a City defender. It was the last action of merit as the visitors played out five minutes of injury-time with a lengthy period of possession football. A bad day at the office all in all and although the team played with heart in the second period, it was the fact they didn’t play with their heads in the first which has done the damage.

We’ve five more games in the next 17 days so there’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves.

  1. Another home defeat. RVP scores yet another goal for Man Utd , we are now a staggering 21 points behind them, and its only January.

P.S. Koscielny should be playing Rugby, that was a wonderful tackle.

      • Selling RvP to Man Utd is unforgivable. Man Utd thinks twice about selling us garbage. Delusional to think that we’re at their levels with decisions like that.

      • @Goontang

That is the true tragedy of it. Even leaving on a free at the end of the season, he would have given us more value than the transfer fee…

    • Few things I’d like to say:
1)Wenger has lost his mind. As much as I like Diaby and Ramsey there was no place for them today. The first one has just returned from the injury (48th of this season), the second at the moment is giving nothing to the team. Plus his absence of action on the transfer market is terrifying. Arsenal needs DM (because as much as I like Arteta he’s no DM) and a striker. And his reluctance to play Rosicky also raises questions.
1,5)Walcott as a striker is good for Reading and tired Newcastle. As far as I’m concerned he can accept that he’s a winger or fuck off to anywhere.
2)Someone has to tell Koscielny he’s playing football not rugby.
3)If someone tells that: ‘We need to focus on another game’ I will hunt him down and destroy him.

Thumb up 102 Thumb down 90

      • We need to focus on another game.

        Happy hunting!

Thumb up 115 Thumb down 5

      • Giroud's perfectly chiseled face

Are you joking? Ramsey played fine given the circumstances.

Also thought I should say, Vermaelen was excellent in the second half. In fact, our team effort in the second half was very good given the situation. Hope we can build from this tough loss.

Thumb up 163 Thumb down 10

      • Ramsey was in the pitch for 30 minutes and provided one sweet pass to walcott that almost led to a goal. I think that alone should tell you to lay off him.

Thumb up 164 Thumb down 6

      • Agreed Giroud. I think a lot of players played well today given the circumstances. Szczesny, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Wilshere, Ramsey, Podolski and Giroud all were commendable. It’s games like drawing Southampton and Swansea that are unacceptable. Fundamentally it’s at managerial and board level that we’re getting ruined – players being run to the ground, not being played in the right positions, funds being withheld, 0 transparency, highest ticket prices in the league for a 4th place scrap.

Thumb up 95 Thumb down 3

      • Dont know why so many people thumb this down. Other than the frankly perennial Ramsey bashing this is spot on. It’s simply deluded to continue burying your heads in the sand and shouting Arsène Knows because he simply doesn’t have a clue in the transfer market or tactically.

Thumb up 51 Thumb down 17

      • Giroud’s perfectly chiseled face,

Verm was shit in the first half and gave away the first goal. He was ok in the second but the damage was done by then as it often is when hes around.

Thumb up 43 Thumb down 2

      • Yeah, no place for Ramsey or Diaby. Who the fuck should have been there instead? A fucking plastic cone? Bollocks.

I say this was the pristine opportunity for Abou to whip out his wang when he was about to be taken off. Go out with a bang to fuck with the little wankers of Citeh.

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 8

      • So many more obvious and glaring problems YET still the first thing you do is criticise Ramsey. This is beyond a joke now, he’s a young lad that ALWAYS puts in an effort whether good or bad. Today he had a positive impact on our attack and didn’t do anything wrong. Focus on the real problems instead of just insulting a player who’s confidence I suspect is already rock bottom.

Thumb up 64 Thumb down 2

      • I have to admit I was unfair to Ramsey but what I was trying to say is that playing him is a 50/50. You can’t be sure if this is going to be Ramsey that knows what he’s doing and he’s doing it right or the one that tries pointless backheels and slows down every single attack or just passes the ball to the opponent. Today was his good day, I admit that.

        @Bunburyist
        You made my day ;)
        @Giroud’s perfectly chiseled face
Vermaelen was excellent in the second half? Wouldn’t call it excellent, rather an OK performance but still match consists of two halves and he fucked up the first one. And anyway if Arsenal was to build on tough losses we would be already the kings of the fucking universe!
        @Reality
I don’t know? Coquelin? Or Rosicky (unless he’s injured or ill, don’t know yet what’s wrong with him)? And I still remember Arshavin’s performances for Russia in EURO 2012 as a midfielder.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 11

      • Wenger from what I can tell has spent more time trying to fix the zipper on his puffy jacket than he has in the transfer market and strengthening this team. I say start the puffy jacket in the midfield.

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 2

      • Ramsey’s responsibility
Both goals of course and the red card too

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

      • “Yeah, no place for Ramsey or Diaby. Who the fuck should have been there instead? A fucking plastic cone? Bollocks.”

TOMAS FUCKING ROSICKY. I rest my case. One class player, puts on a top showing against Marseille, rested after HT, resting ever since. I hate what Wenger is doing with him, seriously.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

    • Wilshere is my king. The guy draws fouls unlike any other player I have ever seen. He is the heart.and soul of this team. Always puts in nothing but 100%. I wish we had 3 or 4 more of his kind at the arse it’s clear he does not love to loss. What a lad.

      P/s fuck van persie…*see that’s positivity!!!!

Thumb up 36 Thumb down 3

    • MIKE DEAN

With him as ref we have won 1, drawn 7 and lost 8.

      That must say something..

Thumb up 120 Thumb down 5

      • And once again, United get Howard Webb.

Thumb up 79 Thumb down 0

      • I think there are two points to be made here.
        1. Yes its a penalty, he’s clearly got his arms around dzeko and is holding him, but i don’t think its a red, only a yellow as i think the keeper was going to get there.

        2. Things like this happen every game off corners and freekicks when the defender is clearly holding the attacker or vice versa and yet they RARELY get called. 90% of them go unnoticed, so its a bit dubious.

Thumb up 76 Thumb down 1

      • Agreed Des. If Koscielny gets sent off for that, then we would see Stoke games abandoned due to them having fewer than 7 men remaining on the pitch

Thumb up 47 Thumb down 0

      • @ Des

Keepers don’t count as “last men (man)”. Anyway, the rule is “denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity”. It was a red.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 4

    • wengers furrowed brows

P.S. Koscielny should be playing Rugby, that was a wonderful tackle.

thats BS…most of the defenders do worse then what Kos did. Just because Dean decided to grow a pair and red card him harshly doesn’t give any fans the right to criticize our player for play acting rugby tackles. It happens everywhere in PL and will continue to happen. Its just a matter of question if referees can still produce red card for such defending acts.

IMHO, Kos was just doing what every defenders does in this country and never gets penalised. He was just unfortunate enough to be noticed by the referee who wanted to be hero in today’s match. Plain case of bad luck and nothing more.

Thumb up 28 Thumb down 21

      • Absolute bollocks! It was a certain foul and Red card. That refs don’t often give them is no defence whatsoever, if anything, you should be complementing Dean on a brave but correct decision.

Kos too often tries to play the man and not the ball. Think City away & for Torres at home earlier in the season. It’s costing us goals every other time he’s in the team. Don’t get me started on Vermalen, he’s no worse than the bloke we’ve just sent to Germany only more prone to reckless, unconscious defending.

We should have bought Lescott at the beginning of the month.

Thumb up 28 Thumb down 33

      • I think it was a stonewall penalty, and we can’t really have any complaints about the red card, to be honest – You’d want it given if it was one of our players being fouled like that at the other end. It was a stupid, poor decision from a player who should know better.

There’s a difference between the sort of tugging you see in a game and wrapping your arms around someone and hauling them to the ground, which is what Kos did. We can argue all day and all night about whether or not a red card was harsh but that doesn’t excuse his decision to commit such a blatent and stupid foul in the first place. It was stupidity, not “bad luck”.

Thumb up 21 Thumb down 4

    • Kosh and Verm have been complete and utter shit this season.

Thumb up 65 Thumb down 11

    • Rosicky>>>>>>>>Diaby

Thumb up 26 Thumb down 12

      • Diaby shouldnt have started, period. Blame Wenger.

Thumb up 33 Thumb down 6

      • I love Rosicky but the guy can’t stay fit. Where was he today? Very hard to compare those two unless you’re comparing who’s more fragile. I’d say your analysis is spot on if you’re saying that Diaby is a lot more fragile than Rosicky. Glass >>>>>>> Diaby.

Thumb up 15 Thumb down 3

      • Rosicky’s been fit for weeks now. He’s not here because of Wenger’s growing ideological stubbornness where the means (developing young players) increasingly take precedence over the ends (win games).

The means (socialist wages) take precedence over the ends (attracting and keeping good players).

And just as throughout the past century, while ideologically driven chaos rages over this side of the Atlantic, cash quietly flows over to America (Kroenke)

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 6

      • @SimSima Comparison was on the basis of class and not about glass. Rosicky was the best Arsenal player in the 2nd half of 2011-12 season and the only match he played this year.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

    • Human nature: Blame everyone or someone.
RVP scored today and is bossing the EPL. RVP wanted to leave Arsenal. He undermined the club and the team, and as Captain he could not stay. He was a prick with ambition and we need to get use to it. As you all can see, it does not affect him in anyway; shape or form; so get over yourselves and deal with it.

ARSENE: Your team is not complete ( 1) Diaby is weak and thin and slow and not the answer ( 2) You need defensive backup (3) Santi runs around like headless chicken and rarely claims the ball from the opponent ( 4) Theo is not a £90k a week Striker (5) JW10 deserves better players around him
      (6) Where the hell is Rosie? ( 7) I was sad At the game TODAY, we looked timid and lacking in bravery ( 8) Jack was kicked to Kingdom Come by the Man City midfield and Dean was woeful ( 9) We played better in the second half (10) I expect AW to say we are tired on Wed after we lose in the FA Cup but maybe the boys can pull it off

    2. If Sagna will cross another ball into the man that is marking him, I will blow my fucking head off.
    3. Time to curl up to the fetal position and wait for Wednesday.

Thumb up 43 Thumb down 7

    • Judgement day (once more)

I always figured that the crossing into the first defender was sort of our thing. Maybe a way to scare them off?

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  5. Really disappointed in Koscielny. Great defender but he should’ve known better than to grab Dzeko so blatantly like that.

Thumb up 84 Thumb down 4

    • Koscielny has a habit of fucking up in big games.

Stupid move. Thought we could have surprised City today, but that went out the window at 10 minutes.

Thumb up 65 Thumb down 10

      • I’ve had enough of Kos’s mistakes in big games. It’s a shame we didn’t start with Mert’s today.

If I’m honest I’ve never felt comfortable with Kos. He’s quick and has a good last ditch tackle in him. But my God the mistakes out weigh any of that. I feel so sorry for djourou. If it wasn’t for being deployed as right back last season I’m pretty sure he’d be the one in rotation with Verm and Merts.

This was a game we could have won today. I felt confident. It took 10 minutes and we pressed the self destruct button. Well done to the lads digging in during the second half.

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 9

    • He did the same against Chelsea with Torres. The only difference is that torres scored despite this.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 4

  6. No matter what happened today.. I’m so proud of arsenal squad.. They really fought hard !! I hope that referee dies !! && I hope wenger now understand why we need more players !!! We need a good fucking striker& DM !!!!!!

Thumb up 28 Thumb down 60

    • You hope Wenger understands we need more players?

Haven’t you heard? Diaby is back, and Bendtner is soon to follow!

Thumb up 74 Thumb down 3

    • I think you were watching a slightly different game Sir. What Kos did was a def red card.
Wilshere, Sagna and Szczesny were the only people IMHO who tried.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 8

  7. I don’t care how much he costs, we need to sign that Mike Dean that Citeh had out there today.

    He’s a proper game changer.

Thumb up 69 Thumb down 18

    • Is he? So…what would you expect him to do about Koscielny rugby tackling Dzeko in the 18-yard box and in a clear goalscoring opportunity?

Dean is no friend of Gooners, but that was probably the right call.

Thumb up 38 Thumb down 16

      • Let him off on the basis that Dzeko is a fuckin donkey and would’ve missed?

Only saw it once at the ground. Really looking forward to seeing the game again later. Not.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 7

      • It was the right call but if Dean had not been in direct line he would not have seen it and couldn’t have given it.Those type of holds happen regularly and whilst not defending Kos he was unlucky to be seen.
Dean then started to dig a bigger and bigger hole for himself.
Praise for AW who left the pitch at HT and FT and didn’t do a Sir Alex Red Nose and confront Dean and the officials

Thumb up 16 Thumb down 0

      • bollocks he was unlucky to be seen, he had his arms fully round the bloke, he was never going to get away with it. Proper fucking idiot.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

  8. First half effort was horrible. Got to say I am impressed with the spirit shown by the lads in the second half.
A few players still look uninterested.
Walcott only cares about proving he can be a CF. Wenger only cares about proving he can be successful with his policy, Vermaelen sets a horrible example of a captain by feeling sorry for him self because of poor refereeing instead of marking miler and l the rest just love having flashy article titles on arsenal.com like “ This is perfect time for tough run”.

This mess needs to be sorted out. Mike dean was not the reason we lost today. The philosophy of the whole club is. Sadly Wenger is just going to blame him as a distraction to his own short comings

Please sign some players who actually wanna play for this club .

Not the sole reason, yet one cannot deny that Dean still threw his farthing’s worth in.

of course, AG, it’s easy to point toward the ref…in this case, he did his best to hobble both teams.
Fergie would have been laughing into his vino.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 2

    • I am fucking baffled as to what Wenger will say at the end of the season if (when) we drop out of the top four, if (when) spurs finish above us. What will the board do? A declining club isn’t exactly an asset that’s increasing in value, even if you are asset-stripping. The fans’ anger will be overwhelming, there could even be riots. Fucking baffling.

Thumb up 38 Thumb down 4

      • garyfootscrayaustralia

It would be a crap riot, though. A percentage would turn up after it had started, laden down with Riot Burgers and The Official Riot Programme, then drift away 15 minutes later to find a toilet and then find more food, then watch a bit of the riot via a screen instead of re-joining the live rioting experience. Then the same percentage would leave the riot ten minutes before the end to beat the dedicated rioters to the station platform.

Thumb up 47 Thumb down 1

      • I’m hoping that at the end of this season Wenger simply says “goodbye”.

Thumb up 99 Thumb down 7

    • just hope he stays for his career. I know he is an arsenal lad through and through, but maybe at one point he will have enough.

Thumb up 32 Thumb down 0

      • Entirely up to the club to build a winning team around Jack. He’s an exceptional player, but if the club doesn’t surround him with a team that can win, he’ll leave. No doubt.

I swear the board need to take this ’4th place is a trophy’ mantra and shove it up the proverbial already.

We’re supposedly finally getting out of the financial constraints of the the stadium move – Great. But if the club doesn’t show ambition to WIN, from top to bottom, from NOW, we’ll stay in this state of limbo, kidding ourselves that barely scraping 3rd place coz the scum couldn’t mind a ten point gap means ‘improvement’, and we’ll steadily keep losing our best players year after year.

        Enough is enough.

I’m so angry and I don’t care if he had nothing to do with it but Gervinho out!

Thumb up 47 Thumb down 17

  12. We went into the game not strong enough. We were “happy” on our side of the pitch. Bad defending again.
Where the hell we lost Rosicky???

Thumb up 51 Thumb down 2

    • lets hope he’s not in the “two to three week” wilderness. Strange though, this game was perfect for him

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 0

  13. 21 points behind manure with only half the season gone is just unbelievable.

Thumb up 64 Thumb down 3

    • Why is it unbelievable? They do what is necessary to win football matches in England. They replace players that can’t cut it, they play with heart and they adjust tactics when it’s not working for them.

When we can do any of the above three things, we can start to look forward to also doing the other two. Untill then, the gap will widen.

P.S. theo Walcott can fuck off.

Thumb up 82 Thumb down 6

    • Easy to believe. We sold them the best striker in the prem. The only thing unbelievable is how ridiculous the owners and manager of this club have become.

Thumb up 29 Thumb down 2

  14. speechless

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 5

  15. Mike Dean is a member of the Cheshire County Football Association. Does this surprise anyone?

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 9

  16. It’s not often i get the opportunity to damage two of United’s rivals at the same time, so I just HAD to do it.
That should mean the end of season all – expenses paid holiday to Loch Lomond with the family is already taken care of.

Thumb up 42 Thumb down 4

  17. :’( AAAAAARGGGH!!!!!!!

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  18. Sad day…. But jack wilshere gives me hope, sheer class.
    Ref’s a confused man.
    …..whatever.

Thumb up 21 Thumb down 2

  19. Wenger must resign by tonight, this is a joke now.

21 points behind salford with only half the season gone?! We’ll struggle to make 6th, and yet we’ve got millions sitting in the bank.

    Useless.

Thumb up 46 Thumb down 35

    • Mark Flatts' Flat

What worries me most is that there are still some fellow goons that don’t believe these sentiments.

Arsene Knows Best Clan please pull your heads out of the sand. Our club is slowly dying under this regime.

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 8

  20. Incompetent.
i dont wanna see how far are we off 4th place but nearly 20 points off leaders just shows how incompetent our squad is. Been the case for years but no excuse this time round fucking go and buy additions. Cant wait the whole month for walcott to let him announce at end of window he is not gnna sign or some shit. We just have one cf in our squad and its giroud who is an injury or suspension away.get the fucking season back on track with signings because this is frustrating.

Thumb up 32 Thumb down 3

  21. Wenger sort it out, you have at least £30 million to spend. Fucking use it, a striker is needed the fact Mertesacker had to play up front the last 10 mins shows how desperate we’ve become. Diaby shouldn’t have started today, I’d rather we seen Coquelin. This over-reliance on Diaby is killing our team, sell him or keep him as a squad player but he shouldn’t be used in big games like this. I know some Diaby fans will say he’s been out 3 months and he hasn’t got consistency, but the thing is. HE’S ALWAYS OUT.
Ramsey and Wilshere to take a bow, I tell everyone that Ramsey is a thousand times better in central midfield, he gave Arsenal our best through ball to Walcott. Show some faith in Rambo, he’ll come good IF Wenger plays in his best position. Wilshere not else needed to say, future Arsenal Captain.

Thumb up 105 Thumb down 2

    • P.S Wenger should use the best of his resources, why wasn’t Rosicky on the bench, he was all over City last season in our 1-0 win. Hell even Arshavin could of contributed, poor Cazorla has lost his spark due to LACK OF SQUAD DEPTH AND ROTATION.

Thumb up 51 Thumb down 0

      • Dont get me started about Cazorla, seems he refuses to play wing. He wanders all over the field and forces my boy Sagna to work twice as hard. By the way Bacary..MOTM. He is tireless…..Sign this man Pleeaaase!!!

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 6

    • I agree that Diaby shouldnt have started, for me he was responsible for not tracking milner in the first goal, and he gave the ball at least a half-dozen times. Really had no impact in the match, but hey he doesnt pick the best 11.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 2

      • Any Arsenal fan that slates Diaby for his performance today can naff right off.

Not his fault Wenger chose to pin his hopes for the season on a long term injury prone player albeit of great potential.

Not his fault the squad we didnt strengthen the DM’ish position we’ve needed to strengthen since 541 BC when we still had Song and we’re STILL short.

He’s is barely match fit, hasn’t played in ages is rusty as fuck.

Shouldn’t have been picked for a game this size, so soon. The man played his first game back for the reserves mid week ffs.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

    • 30 million yeah right im waiting for the excuse that Stephen hawking has created another blackhole that has sucked up all our money.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  22. Spend.

    Some.

    Cunting.

    Money.

    You.

    Cunts.

Or we will not make top half let alone finish above Tottenham and in a top four position. I’m talking about the the rip off merchants that make up the board these days. They are going to see more and more empty seats in that over priced ground.

Thumb up 88 Thumb down 6

  23. Only won 1 out of 16 games with mike dean as ref!! It was man $ity with 13 men next to our 10 for most of the first half!!

Thumb up 17 Thumb down 7

  24. Has Rosicky been screwing Mrs Wenger?

Thumb up 55 Thumb down 3

    • Maybe he’s in the way of Ramsey’s development ?

Thumb up 23 Thumb down 11

      • Would have liked to have seen Rosicky getting some action, but also thought Rambo was one of our better players when he came on.

Thumb up 57 Thumb down 2

      • Surely Cazorla deserves a rest and this is the only position where we have proven reliable cover aka Rosicky. Hopefully he will start against Swans in FA cup replay with Cazorla having a day off unless AW wants Cazorla and Arteta together in the treatment room.

Thumb up 29 Thumb down 0

  25. Wilshere needs to be captain.

Thumb up 48 Thumb down 2

  26. this fucking hurts.

Thumb up 22 Thumb down 0

  27. surprised walcott didn’t take all the freekicks and corners. a match to forget.

Thumb up 32 Thumb down 1

  28. garyfootscrayaustralia

I thought AW showed admirable calm and restraint in not approaching Dean and letting fly with a volley of verbal abuse in front of the crowd, players and other match officials.
He would have been well within his rights to do that without fear of sanction or punishment, as a precedent has already been set by one of his managerial colleagues this season.
Hang on, you’re telling me there’s different rules of conduct for different managers?

Thumb up 38 Thumb down 5

  29. Am I the only one who sees an awesome player in Jack Wilshere? I thought the lad played his heart out today. He was everyone always trying to make things happen. MOTM IMO. If only Wenger would sign afew more classy players so the poor boy doesn’t get frustrated.

Thumb up 23 Thumb down 8

    • You really think you’re the only one? Hahah.

Wilshere is super hyped as the savior of Arsenal and the English NT. And all of us love him and think he’ll soon be a world beater of course!

Thumb up 24 Thumb down 1

  30. Something changed during this game, after we went 2-0 down Walcot didn’t take a single free kick it was all Wiltshire. For me it was clear to take Walcot out and put somebody in midfield, Wenger kissing Theo’s as*. And in he end Theo was invisible and he played like sh*t, almost like we played with 9 men against 11.

Thumb up 23 Thumb down 5

    • played better than santi still but leave that out

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 10

    • You cant blame walcott, he had no service. Its difficult to judge his CF performance based on this game. I thought he worked hard, he led the counter attacks and his speed was a factor against the slow city backline.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 15

  31. That was sad. No idea what koz was up to, stupid red. Stupid rule, but I don’t think we can blame Dean for that one. However, he let citeh get away with a lot of shit before sending off Kompany for what looked like a yellow at worst. Still a class-A cunt though.

Jack was excellent, Giroud and Ramsey were decent. Theo was anonymous – we can only assume his contract and pay rise are sorted. sigh. Sagna gets almost no cover nowadays. Diaby probably shouldn’t have started (use Ramsey!) as he lost the ball way too much, even after making some good tackles. Santi was not penetrative enough, after showing some good touches. Sad, because he’s awesome to watch.

Dzeko is Bosnian by the way (for the report, above).

Thumb up 27 Thumb down 0

  32. Sheikh mansoor: hello ivan, that jack lad is exactly the player we need to take our midfield to the next level and win a shit load of trophies. How much for him?
Gazidis: 40 mill, although i would like to point out he plays has quite the understanding with cazorla. Buying one without the other is like buying a car without keys really…
Sheikh mansoor : ok…hmmm. I’ll give you 20 for both.
Gazidis : done! You wont regret it! , have you heard about gnabry and eisfield? No? You should really send your scouts over…

Thumb up 48 Thumb down 5

  33. I’m crying. God why I’m in love with Arsenal. Love hurts!

Thumb up 21 Thumb down 1

  34. Well, that was mighty frustrating. Going to work very hard to eradicate that from my memory.

Pretty please can we sign three classy footballers, then we may just finish top four.

The Arsenal faithful were brilliant today!

Thumb up 17 Thumb down 0

  35. We missed Gervais and Chamack today.

Thumb up 31 Thumb down 3

  36. wengers furrowed brows

Mike Dean just opened a huge Pandora Box by red carding Kos. Penalty? Yes! Yellow Card? Yes! Red Card? Harsh! Debate might continue for days and weeks and months…
Jack Wilshere made me feel very very proud today. In fact I have never been so proud of Arsenal like today. The second half performance was absolute fantastic. I feel proud to be a gooner today.
I applaud the team for their performance. They at least didn’t roll over like spuds and got steam rolled. 10 men against the champions is never easy and we tried our best to get back in the game, but it was always a uphill task. BUT WE FUCKING FOUGHT LIKE HEROES…DEFEATED BUT STILL HEAD HELD HIGH! 5 star performance by the team and the manager.
I been constantly calling these players clown but today I stand corrected. They played like Warriors! When Mert was played upfront, I actually cried. It was such a courageous move. If arsenal had lost today even by 25 goals, I would still have been proud.
    RESPECT!

Thumb up 33 Thumb down 11

  37. Was it me or where they trying to kick Jack into intensive care but I am sorry Arsene hand in the pocket pay the going rate and buy some players.

Thumb up 18 Thumb down 0

  38. Don’t understand why he put mertesacker on the bench, he as been our best CD this season by far.

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 0

  39. At least we’ve got Johan Djourou as cover…oh wait….

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 3

  40. Don’t worry, by the end of the month we will sign some nobodies, who need to get some rythm and match fitness for 5 weeks and will make an impact in the final stages of the season. In the meanwhile theo will sign da thing, another overpaid liabilty who can’t carry the attack against quality opposition. Frustrating.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 4

    • we wont sign anyone come on, as aw stated this is the bet squad hes had, clearly evident today again! time to go

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 6

  41. innocuos coming together? jesus take the goggles off, more stupidity from an arsenal player. no individual responsibility at all

didnt make hart have one save till that pass back at the end from giroud, poor again. but hey great character, cant fault this team….. i bet the players laugh at the shit he comes out with now

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 8

  42. Too much asked of Diaby to come straight in for this match. Ramsey not a huge offensive game changer and not so popular right now, but at least he wouldn’t have been creaking and misplacing passes.

Red card shackled us, but still shouldn’t have conceded the goals we did. Defeated by ourselves as opposed to anything of particular quality.

Can “Theo fucking Walcott” (© arseblog) stop taking our set pieces? Can we get a break from Mike fucking Dean (© me)?

Thumb up 34 Thumb down 0

  43. Koscielny + Vermaelen = too agressive, both go for the ball like headless chickens when they’re on the field. Mertesacker balances shit out and you could evidently see he had a positive effect on Vermaelen who was probably our second best today after Jack. Looks like Kos will miss the Chelsea game, so no own goals that’s for sure!

Thumb up 29 Thumb down 2

  44. My thoughts on today’s game: Whatever.

The squad needs to show as much heart as they showed in the second half today when facing teams lesser than Man City. I want to seem them busting a gut for the cause and pissed off that they are not yet up 1-0, from the first whistle.

Looking ahead, what happened to Santi Cazorla, and how can it be undone?

Thumb up 17 Thumb down 0

  45. Thoughts….

    1. Koscielny seriously? That is not even schoolboy level sh!t.
    2. Koscielny you the entire team a serious apology, the last thing we needed with this fixture list is to play 80 minutes a man down.
    3. Did somebody kidnap Thomas Rosicky?
    4. Theo Walcott offers less than little as a lone striker especially against squads with strong center halfs. Crossing the football from wide is a waste of energy.
    5. Wenger if you plan on sticking with this odyssey of 14 through the middle, you had better go to 4-4-2 asap.
    6. Arteta being out sucks huge, Diaby at this stage is basically a passenger.
    7. Manchester City are a$$clowns.
    8. Wilshere you sir are one fearless, tough son of a b!tch. Thank you.
    9. Sagna you sir are one amazingly fit, committed son of a b!tch. Playing the entire right side by yourself bc of this malarkey with 14 right now. Thank you.
    10. Manchester City are cunt$.
    11. Wenger seriously please locate the club wallet and start using what’s in it, for crying out loud. This is fucking ridiculous. For fuck sake.

Thumb up 81 Thumb down 3

    • I couldnt agree with you more, Cazorla has sucked for a while but everyone was too busy praising his spanish arse to notice. And thank you for the Sagna shout-out, this man is our rock!!

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 3

  46. I usualy stand by arsene, but today I just cannot.
If giroud was fit enough to be on the bench to come on after 50 mins, why the hell not start him? Wallcott is yet to be the kind of striker that will trouble a defender like kompany.
And the opposite applies to diaby. This is not the kind of fixture you expect to have an easy hour to get your fitness back. Either start ramsey or start coquelin, ( ramsey came on and due to sheer fitness alone was able to cover more ground )
Why is theo taking charge of set pieces over the likes of cazorla and jack?
Why do I get the feeling that sagna is just going through the motions, not giving much of a shit, putting in half arsed crosses and just not playing to the level we expect of him?

Thumb up 18 Thumb down 4

  47. Too many players go missing in games….fair enough they played better in the second half…but, am i the only one that thinks Cazorla should be putting more of a shift in an arsenal shirt….Jack was everywhere compared.

btw we are never making top four….i wish but , unless we spend, say goodbye to the champs league.

Feel very sad about our prospects

Also cant believe Wenger is looking for ‘Exceptional Quality’ when there are plenty of players to improve us…smells of complete BS, more excuses not to buy anyone.

    off to get pissed

Thumb up 21 Thumb down 2

  48. Just a membership number

Wenger looked resigned, wish he wpuld

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 10

  49. Wilshere out.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 31

  50. Just another exasperated comment. Some of the fans need to remember our history- the 60′s and the 80′s trophy drought. Patience is well rewarded and Arsenal has always moved upwards and onwards since the beginning.

In Arsenal we trust- though it may drive us crazy and leave our heads banging on the wall sometimes. Also, Ramsey you keep your recovery in form up, bit by bit.

    Up the Arse.

Thumb up 30 Thumb down 12

  51. Great effort from all the lads today I thought, apart from Kozza obviously. Thats twice this season he’s played like a complete nob, someone needs to give him a slap.

Can’t believe all the cynical fouls $ity got away with and how the hell didn’t Dzeko get booked for lifting his shirt up and revealing a printed message after scoring? Dean should be banned for missing something clear as that.

Swansea are gonna get such a fucking beating weds.

Thumb up 29 Thumb down 1

    • Only if we sign Michu by Tuesday.

      /off sarcasm

Thumb up 23 Thumb down 1

    • you get booked lifting the shirt above the head, not for what he did

sadly dean was right, esp with kosc pen decision and the free kick. tv is naive and needs to grow up, do your job!bsecond goal is poor weak tackling

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

      • Not too sure about that, I thought the reason that the rule was introduced was because sponsors were getting annoyed that they weren’t getting the exposure they pay for after players score. So if he’s lifting his shirt up surely it’s the same thing. Then again I could be wrong.

I thought both reds were correct decisions but $ity should’ve had a lot more cards.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 1

  52. Koscielny fucks us again.remember Birmingham guys??? wenger out.he is not going to win us fuck all! PS my name should not be the issue here please

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 19

  53. We played well second half but we gifted 2 goals in the first.. Sending off was no excuse – we just don’t know how to defend or react.

When you lost a player and somehow saved a penalty what stops you to see off game 0-even qpr can do that against Chelsea and Tottenham and pick up 4 out of 6 points.

Our team, captain, manager and board are absolutely clueless. Some of them still live on that invincible era and can’t see what’s wrong with the team…

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 5

  54. I’ve had it with Kosh and Verm. They gave the game to Citeh by being their usual selves. Both of them have big concentration problems and they are costing us games, points and goals. We shouldn’t play any of them, but we have no choice because the backup are shite, the backup is the Squid. Sign a quality defender and play him with Mert and send the other two to a George Graham boot camp.

Why was Diaby playing? He is just back from his latest Diaby and you could see that he was having a hard time with the tempo. He misplaced a lot of easy passes but the worst is that he was just one little twist away from being permacrocked again. He shouldn’t have played at all. Our squad is big enough to cope with injuries. Right Wenger? (irony).

Walcott are useless as a lone striker and why the fuck is he taking free kicks and corners? We are shit enough at set pieces to have him give the ball away. But I do think he could be a good striker if he had some backup (I know he was shit when Giroud came in but.. well what the fuck I am trying to be a bit positive).

Wenger get the dusty thing you call a wallet out and use the money in it, we have a lot of players to buy. If you don’t we will be out of the top four trophies at the end of this season. You can ask Liverpool how easy it is to come back. The sad thing is that Wenger won’t acknowledge that we have any problems at all and keep relying on luck to get us to the CL. According to me Wengers time is up and has been for some time but I would gladly keep him and give him the sendoff he deserves if I knew he could change. But I don’t think he can.

Thumb up 26 Thumb down 4

  55. What the hell are you guys moaning about? 21 points behind this and that. Relax, if we win against the hammers we’re 3 points behind and 3 points closer to the real trophy. Not that trophy that sees you as Barclays Premier League champions, no the made up Wenger trophy.
    Now where’s my coat?

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 15

  56. Except for Kos, I got no complain for the performance of our other players. But then again, in a big game like this, in the early minutes, I think the referee should use his common sense & wisdom and give yellow + penalty instead. Fuckin’ Mike Dean..

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 3

  57. Football meh!
Anybody need a good second hand car?!

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 1

  58. GiveMeWhatWengersSmoking

Second half performance from the team was amazing in terms of effort and desire. Can’t be bothered to talk about the rest of the game or the Arsenal hating ref Dean.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 3

  59. Doesn’t even hurt anymore, I’ve just accepted the fact that we are shit.

Thumb up 19 Thumb down 6

  60. What a fucking superstar Jack Wilshere is, kicked from pillar to post the whole game, that boy’s got the heart of a fucking lion, and the love of all Arsenal fans…

Thumb up 45 Thumb down 0

  61. He's got no hair but we don't....

I’m going to go kind off topic here:

Has anyone else noticed how a lot of Arsenal’s ex-players-turned-commentators/analysers never say anything positive about the team. Some culprits include:

    Niall Quinn
    Alan Smith
    Stuart Robson
    Ian Wright
    Paul Merson

When ex-players of other teams commentate or analyse their former teams, they’re either balanced or a little biased. See the ex rat boy from Manure or the son of the manager of the bottom team in the league.

Why do our ex players have it in for us so much. Quinn today was pretty bad but Alan Smith is diabolical.

Thumb up 29 Thumb down 2

    • Just a thought, but it probably hurts them to see the club in such a state, being run by complete tossers,,,even i’m struggling to find some positives nowadays…

Thumb up 16 Thumb down 4

    • Even Tony Adams seems to hate Arsenal now, although with him I think it’s more because Bould got the assistant job instead of him. The only ex arsenal player i can think of that’s decent is Charlie Nicholas, I think he still cares about the club deeply.

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 1

    • I reckon that they’re told to stick the knife in by the TV companies. Can’t see why they’d give us such a grilling all the time. It’s always been fashionable to hate Arsenal, even before the Premier League era.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 2

    • yeah u r right, these commentators should make mid table look like another trophy for us. at this rate i would actually believe in for another delusional trophy, least being delusional is better than being realistic atm. need to get some of tips off some delusional scousers.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 6

  62. Cazorla was a solid 2/10 for me, that’s only because he stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 10

  63. arsenal depression

in times like this we must ask ourselves. ..if Wenger goes who would be an available manager to replace him??? grass isn’t always greener on the other side just were u water it

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 15

    • The problem is that this squad doesn’t have the quality needed to compete. The biggest problem is that the results have been terrible, not good enough at all for arsenal. But still there is no investment.

If Wenger got money available and don’t spend them then he should leave the club..

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 3

    • I reckon it’s high time we should take this chance now..we can’t keep doing the same thing with same personnel and accept different result.

Something is got to change.. I love wenger but my love for club is much bigger..

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

  64. Two things that bother me about today’s game, among other things:

1.) It was baffling to see Podolski come off so soon. Wenger should have replaced Diaby instead and put Giroud up-top, flanked by Theo on the right and Podolski on the left, as well as Cazorla in the center That would have helped our counter-attacking a great deal.

2.) Why, and i repeat, WHY is Walcott allowed to take free-kicks? Just. Why?

Thumb up 32 Thumb down 1

  65. Did anybody else noticed? That Ramsey played much better in midfiled than his flank position. For wilshere, i have only one thing to say

take a bow son take a bow!!!!!

Thumb up 35 Thumb down 0

  66. Was shocked to see tv5 & kosc together again with the bfg fit. Has Arsene not learned from the Milan game last year and Chelsea at home, they cannot play together.
A lot of fight is a positive thing, but what we need is two attacking signings, there’s been too many games this season we haven’t scored in,and its killing us.
We will finish ahead of Tottenham,Because we’re better

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 2

    • I agree that the combination of TV5 and Kos together just don’t seem to work as often as we’d like.
I did see that TV5 and Mert started playing together well, while Kos and Mert did last season when TV5 was out.
That doesn’t mean Mert is our best central defender, but that he pairs better than the other 2.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 2

  67. love you dickhead

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 6

  68. After 9 minutes i pretty much knew we were not going to win. 1-0 down, i feared we were gonna take a beating. Sending off was correct, Kos tackle wwas utter shite…..then he bowls it off the pitch like its cool. Prick! Proud the lads on the pitch played their hearts out, couldnt of really asked for more.( btw, Kompany was no way a red card).
And so, here we now stand 6 points off 4th place which, if u like is our target. Now if wenger cant ser we need to strengthen, then come end of season im sure he will pay the price for underachieving, if we fail when we could of stremgthened the team. Wenger says he will only buy top quality. And we have enough players. But we dont have many top players, that change and win games. The ones we have either get sold, or are run into the ground and get injured.
I hope hes not left with egg on his face for Arsenal Football Clubs sake. COYG

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 2

  69. We should all be educated enough to know that when the end of any era (Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire, British Empire, Liverpool, Leeds, etc…) there is chaos and ruin. This game showed how Arsenal are currently in that ruin, let me describe our:
    Stupidity – Kos ‘s tackle and Verm’s back-turn
Fight – ANYTHING Wilshire did today, he made the jersey proud
Ignorance – Wenger’s handling of the Walcott situation by letting him take DFK’s, start up top, stay up top when Arsenal goes a man down and now is considered 2 men down when our Striker NEVER TRACKS BACK, and decides to hold all potential transfer activity to strengthen the club until AFTER Walcott signs

OK – I am so beyond frustrated at the Walcott situation it colors my thinking. What I do know is that Podolski is 10x the Striker Walcott is, yet Walcott plays in the middle. Walcott is 10x the Winger that Podolski is, yet Pod plays out wide left. What manager ANYWHERE does that kind of shit to weaken the squad? AND, holy shit, and – lets a player hold the entirety of the club over a barrel as he whines about what he wants? I’m lost.

Thumb up 34 Thumb down 1

  70. thindisagree with the referee bashing. Kos rugby tackles Dzeko in the penalty area. If it happened to us we’d be SCREAMING for a red. Yes it’s super annoying and it spoiled the game. The solution is for players not to cheat to snuff out attacking threats. If every incidence of this kinda thing resulted in a red, you’d get a lot more goals, especially for teams who are easily physically dominated by physical defenders… teams like us.

” Dean played his part – blowing for a silly foul by Podolski” If it was a foul then Dean didn’t ‘play his part’ i.e. help the opposition unfairly (‘the world’s against us’ mentality) he just did his job… correctly.

Thought Sagna was a giant today. One of a few players showing bags of grit & gumption to keep us in the game. Mert has got no spine for these sorts of games. Why Ramsey / Diaby not Rosicky? Jack’s the only person who regularly drives forwards, which makes everything happen. Rosicky does that too but isn’t getting played. And despite all that time out of the game, Diaby showed that he’s no less lazy: contributes to giving the ball away, languidly ambles back despite blue shirts streaming past him, leaving Sagna in 2-on-1s regularly. Going forward, Walcott never shows for it and deliberately hides amongst the big centre backs to appear to be playing but actually shun responsibility. If he’d re-signed already, would Wenger have played him up top instead of the much more natural choice of Giroud?

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 2

  71. does arsene know it’s ok to use the checkbook in January? sigh

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 3

    • To be fair to wenger, and i know im going to hated for this, but january transfers tend to be overpaid in england, look at the Sturridge transfer for example. For me, he is an average striker, but the reds overpaid for him. Why? because they’re desperate for another scorer. I guess Wenger isnt as desperate as he was when he brought in Mert and Arteta after the Fabregas departure.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 3

  72. I think, after being an ardent supporter of Arsene Wenger all these years, I have to sadly turn my back on him and his team. I think both the team and Wenger are tired of each other. The fans are tired of excuses, they are tired of continuous run of schoolboy errors which never get corrected. I accept we cannot compete with big money clubs but at least we can fix problems on the pitch with our current set of players. Who is to blame for that?

I am happy we played with heart in face of adversity but frankly, we were toothless. When we are facing top teams like Man city, we need to make every chance count. Podolski, Giroud and theo all had chances/half chances to make a difference. They didn’t take them. Basically this team has no player who can be a game changer. We are only good against teams below us (even there we falter regularly). The only team above us we have beated are the 10 men Spurs. We don’t deserve to be in top 4. Stats don’t lie. We are on a definite slide. I hope people who run the club can see it too.

Thumb up 26 Thumb down 3

    • I think Wenger’s issue is that he has lost ‘something’, whether it be the Plot, the ability to improvise, whatever. I have been a supporter for quite some time, but his recent non-activity to strengthen the club and his downright stubbornness to fix what is obvious to the whole of the world that which is broken…
I think he has TOO MUCH faith in his signings and when they go bad (or are bad from day 1) takes way too long to admit it.
I think he has lost the ability to see what his team is missing – he clearly thinks he knows what his team has, and sadly – usually thinks that is enough.
I see no rabbit in the hat that would lead to a 4th or better finish this season.

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 1

      • You don’t have to be cynical. The loss today was not a managerial problem of a referee who is a sadist

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 12

    • And I hate saying this from the bottom of my heart, but Chelsea are playing more exciting football these days compared to us. Weren’t ARSENAL supposed to be the style kings? I saw ManU-Pool game earlier and one thing struck me that Man U are set to be such a practical team. SAF values wins over style. Wenger, on the other hand, valued Winning with style all the time. And that was really something. That was what made Arsenal THE club to watch. We seemed to have ditched that big time this season. Really, really down.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 1

  73. Hurts but like any other loss… Start again tomorrow. This would be a good time for a nice string of positive results

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 3

  74. The fans have done their part (they were just unplayable today). The players (some of them played to their best today or at least close to their best szcz, wilshere, vermalen, gibbs) tried their best. Wenger is time for you to do your part, dust that check book and add to this thin squad so that this team can at least make the europa league. Wenger claims he has two players in every position yet the bench was still very uninspiring I must say. Mancity had aguero, nasri, yaya, richards, etc all out of dis game yet presented an intimidating first team wit a decent bench, now I think that’s what depth is all about.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 1

  75. Fuck this negativity!
I can’t fault the spirit and the performance

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 6

  76. Losing to City, United and Chelsea is normal for us now.
Those teams are in another league. Money helps :)
We were in the same position last year and still won the
Arsene Wenger trophy and qualified for the CL.
So we only need to finish in front of Spurs and Everton in the league and its another successful year.
All our players and management are giving their best every game .
Lets support them all to the hilt.
We are still in the FA cup and Champions league too
so lots to look forward too.
    COYG.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 8

  77. For the first time in my life I recorded a game so I could watch the whole thing later. I got home and found out that my DVR didn’t record the game… Im glad it didn’t.
We will probably get 4th place. But 21 points behind United is unacceptable. Up until 2009, Wenger had a winning record vs Ferguson. Everything has gone downhill since then.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 2

  78. The moment I saw Mike Dean as the referee, I knew the game was already lost. He is a demon of a referee and had always being against Arsenal. No matter what happened, our players really tried. The last fifteen minutes showed that Man City is not a better team than Arsenal. Our men tried their best but Mike Dean destroyed our efforts.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 5

    • I am sorry OA, this time I have to disagree. Dean was totally correct in sending off Kos. It was poor defending from Kos. And it was bad organization from Verm which led to the 1st goal. Two schoolboy errors from our 1st choice CBs.

Something is wrong with the defensive mentality of this team.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 3

  79. Well looks like my predication has come to pass, what have u deluded arsenals fans got to say now eh? Wenger out that’s my calls, this is the worst arsenal team I’ve seen since the 80s!

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 11

    • The only agreement I have with that is that this is the worst MANAGED team since the 80′s. Arsenal have quality players – there just so strung out, lack in numbers, and are played in all sorts of areas as if to force under-achievement.
You get these players playing 100% to their abilities, with added quality to rotate, and in their trained positions – you have a serious contender for any title.

As far a my Walcott bashing…
I love Walcott on the wing, his hook-up play with Sagna, and his deadly speed to beat FULLBACKS.
I hate the catering to his inability to effectively play the center position, inability to out jump CENTER BACKS, his lowering of the overall quality of the team on the pitch when he’s played centrally, and his laziness to track back and cover (as needed) when in that central roll.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 4

  80. It’s just all so annoyingly inevitable. From the first day of the season to now, it’s just exactly how most of us thought it would go. Scrape through easy group in Champs League, 6th in table, RVP looking superhuman for Manx. Buy some players Wenger!

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 0

  81. bergkamp: do you really like arsenal or just arsenal with trophies!

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 1

  82. Ur dreaming we won’t get top four this season our luck has run out. What wrong with arsenal fans on here are they stupid or what lol. I notice double double is silent as a lamb now jokes on u now dick head!

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 7

  83. No need for another striker we have Podolski it’s just a shame he is played so far out of position it isn’t funny.
Why can’t we play a 4-4-2 with Theo and Giroud/Podolski up top? With a midfield of Santi, Wilshere, Diaby and Arteta screening the back 4.

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 0

  84. truth is that we are a just above average side . wenger should have gone 2 years ago . and i keep banging the drum that Szczesny,he is`nt good enough for a top 4 side , he`s not shit , but i don`t see him any better in 5 years . you’ve got to admit on numerous occasions he could have done better

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 5

    • Agreed! I dont fault the Keep for the first goal as it was well taken. However the second, he has to hold on to Tevez’s toe poke. It didnt seem like a particularly hard shot. Otherwise he has to parry it to the corner flag. He merely deflected to the center of his goal. For a catchable ball for sure.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  85. A lot of people proud of a second half performance that would have been unnecessary if they had done their jobs in the first 10mins.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 2

  86. Who exactly is taking our defensive training Laurel or Hardy? Clueless at the back, one buttock short of half arsed going forwards. On current form who would get into either of the Manchester teams from our lot? Depressing as it is predictable.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 2

    • Mark Flatts' Flat

Bould has been marginalised. I know for fact that this is the case. The time spent on defensive drills and positioning was reduced by Wenger as soon as Bould started getting all the praise for our defensive improvement early in the season.

Wenger will not leave unless pushed, who exactly do you think has the balls to do that in the Boardroom?

Unless us fans make a stand nothing will change. I’m sorry to say but no Champions League football next year is the only way this club can move forward.

      WENGER OUT

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 4

  87. Wenger has no spine just because Theo won’t sign a new contract he plays him as a CF and let him take most of the FK’s .

Wenger must resign for the sake of Arsenal and himself it’s embarrassing.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 5

  88. Lol@90k for Theo

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 1

  89. Everyone chill the fuck out…our Bendtner is coming back!!

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 5

  90. dont want theo to sigb now. hes not that good and fuck me hes making a issue out of signing the greedy git. if the original 18 million offered to play for usf#%k off

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

  91. Bravo to RHM couidnt put it better myself mate… wenger needs to go for the sake of our club moving forward.I’m fed up of the disappointments all the time. I hope he does the honerable thing and waik at the end the season.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 9

  92. First off, fantastic match. I loved our spirit, we never gave up. Diaby was shambolic, he wasnt ready, not for a start against the champs. I blame him for the first goal for not tracking back and giving up the ball regularly. Schesny…the keeper, shouldve held on to the Tevez shot, instead he gave Dzeko a sitter. Props to Jack and my MOTM Sagna. Cazorla refuses to remain in the wing, he wanders all over and forces Sagna to cover for him. Not fair to Walcott, he’s being shitted on, he had no service today. He worked hard, led the line on the counters. I love Giroud, his ability to snatch the ball out of the air is second to none. The 4-4-2 is looking really good right now, we need to go back to that. Overall, a valiant effort!

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 6

  93. I love this club, and what kills me the most is that for a team that was once considered “cutting edge” we are now so far behind.

    1) Not to bang flog a dead horse-but why do they always tell us about all this money that is available to spend right before the tranfer window and how active they will be and then not spend it and start making up excuses? We did our part and supported this team with pride when they sold the “youth movement” because we all saw the potential gains of it in the years to come-we’re now in those years to come and I cant help but feel like we’re worse. I have been a big fan of Arsene over the years-but this almost cultish support of him is just not objective. The boys arent paid to play football and he isnt paid to manage-they are all paid to win football games-anything else is not acceptable. Like Andrew says-the club just isnt doing their best to succeed-they arent using the resources we know we have.
    2) Strategically our formation of play does not fit our personel I’m sorry but its true, we are midfield heavy with a “classic” type striker (not TW). We may play better in a 4-4-2 from what I see, or even a more wide 4-2-3-1. I am not syaing those are the best formations to play, just that with who/what we have that may be the way to go. Furtehr to that point-stop playing Ramsey out of position, go sign someone who can play that position, and stop making Podolski the first sub every game-he is one of our few goal scoring threats and him and Gibbs are really starting to play well.
    3) Where did our leadership on the field go? Why is TW taking FK and corners-even brushing Arteta away last week-he is abysmal at it. Why is Podolski always the first man to come out?
    4) Depth-we have none. Our first group is good-but when Wenger has to go to the bench there is no one there who can help-that all lays on Wenger-he made this squad make up, so not the players fault, its his for picking them. Wengers strength was finding “cheap hidden gems”, is he really the guy to use these so called available funds?
    5) Our board-you embarras us. PHW, I hope you are doing better but you need to do whats best for our club. The whole “Silent Stan” and his indifference combined with the fact that Usmanov is very interested and wanting to spend. As a fan of this team why do I care about the pride of running a good business model when I have a billionaire ready to inject cash-I’m sure the fans of PSG/City/Chelsea could give a rats ass about feeling good about a business model-they just wanna see their club win-and they have. Wenger needs a Boss, someone needs to taker that job, and if we dont have that internally hire someone to do it. Its not his club, or even the boards. its our, you are merely custodians of it who are letting us down.

    Rant over.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 0

  94. Actually thought there was some positives. Wiltshire looked more lively, likely getting back into his rhythm. I also thought Diaby and Ramsey looked well.

Negatives, are that you knew we would never win from the off, OK it was a red but it always seems to be something. Also, Walcott is crap and it would be better if he left- he can’t cross or beat a man like a winger and he can’t head or dictate like a striker, he is like Henry but a henrylight without the creativity.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 2

  95. Forget trophies. Forget 4th place. We might not even get a St Tottinghams Day this year.

Anyone have stats for how many times Wilshere was taken off his feet today? No wonder he gets injured so often. Continuous hits will only weaken his legs until he pops something in training.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

    • Oh and Diaby just needs to go. He made me so nervous every time he got the ball. Not the game to debut him in.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 8

  96. Haha fantastic match he says what planet ur on mate?spirit what fucking spirit we havent got none. We lost 2-0 stop sucking wenger dick this team is terrible!

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 9

  97. I see a lot of people arguing about the red card… but it was one of the fairest red cards ever given : Koscielny grabs Dzeko like an old pillow, runs him into the ground, and you’re teing me there’s no red card?? Just because you’re a fan doesn’t mean you should complain about EVERY ref decision. kos’ red card was way more legitimate that Kompany’s.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 2

  98. My 2 pennys on the players performances

Szczesny – Top draw, without him could have been 4 or 5
Sagna – Unusually quiet, and where was he when Dzeko was at back post for their 2nd?
Vermaelen – Let emotions get to him too much today, and needs to know how to control and focus his attention as he went from really good to really bad (sums up Arsenals season)
Koscielny – Unlucky in that it could have been a yellow, but so, SO stupid as you don’t do that 10mins into such a big game
Gibbs – Looked dangerous going forward as always, but was kept out of the game by Milner
Diaby – Great to him back, chasing balls down left right and centre. Just please stay fit as he was a ray of light today.
Wilshere – True gooner. Arsenal and Englands future captain who never gave up.
Walcott – Looked lost when playing as CF, as he needs someone with power and strength beside him, better when Giroud came on and unlucky not to score
    Oxlade-Chamberlain – Unlucky
Cazorla – Clearly not a wide player when moved out wide after Ox was removed, but didn’t have the right boots on today as shooting and some passing was well off
Podolski – Gave it his all, but I still wonder if he can play the full 90 minutes of any game?

Mertesacker – I wonder if he had more pace would we have been stretched so much?
Giroud – Created chances but didn’t look sharp through no training all week
Ramsey – Despite being poor lately, chased the ball down, and played well

Wenger – Needs to tell players if we ever have Mike Dean again as a referee either not to touch any opponents (although that won’t stop Bale diving) or take the ref out ‘accidentally’

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 6

  99. It is often said that it is as hard or harder to play against ten men and arsenal have found that ourselves as teams can set ththemselves to be hard to beat. Why did that not apply today? Simple, we cannot set our team up to defend with 11 not mind 10

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 3

  100. I don’t know where to start …

I despair of how money orientated football has become, sugar daddy owners, crazy salaries but the only way we are going to ever be up thgere with the best again, competing and winning trophies is by spending money on the best players and getting rid of the dross.

If Walcotts head get’s any bigger it will explode. He will NEVER be at the level of TH14, he should never take a free kick again and sod offering him a new contract with whopping salary increase. Sell him to a foreign club for what we can get to piss him and his money grabbing agents off and to make a long overdue point!

Koscielny what the f### were you thinking?

Vermaelen needs a major boot up his arse and to start being a captain!

Wenger get rid of the dross and bring in quality or go! Enough is enough!
At the very least a striker, proper winger, defensive midfielder, centre back and decent back up goalkeeper.

One last point, poor JW, does he have to have his legs broken to get a foul given against him …

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 1

  101. Oh and one last point, whoever thought selling RVP to Manchester United was a good idea should be shot. You NEVER let your captain and best player get to the last year of his contract and NEVER sell to a rival team. If he had to go flog him abroad even for what you can get to prove a point! One of the worst decisions the club has ever made!

    Dark days!

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 4

  102. Mike Dean was a factor sure, but before the sent off there were signs of an Arsenal struggle already. Midfield was overrun quite easily, although Wilshere recovered and limited the damage. Diaby was no where near ready for a game like this. Arteta wouldn’t have let us feel the absence of Kos. Anyway there’s only viable solution i see. Get Guardiola. He’s the only man capable of getting Arsenal back. A perfect match. Wenger can be a director or whatever. Arsenal will be forever indebted to Wenger. This Arsenal is the creation of him. It’ll always be his. But things are deteriorating rapidly, every season is worse than the previous and no improvements are in sight. If he really loves Arsenal, he must step down (or up ).

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 3

    • Why do you think for one minute Guardiola would come to Arsenal? The board won’t pay those sort of wages..and there is no way Wenger would move upstairs and watch someone else manage the team!!!!!

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 1

      • We can offer Pep more than wages. We can offer him patience, stability and identity. He’s a sensible man who values these things more than money. And if it came down to money I say investment in Pep is worth way more than a couple of big signings. When you’re signing with Guardiola you’re signing with success. And Wenger has to have the decency to not watch the team he built through hard work go to waste like that, because at this rate Arsenal are heading to midtable mediocrity if not worse.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 2

      • Wenger IS NOT Arsenal.. he is an employee of Arsenal. If there are people out there who are available and can do a better job-we should be looking into it as should any club-if we’re not then what are we doing? Guardiola has already said Arsenal would be his first choice and the kind of stability we offer coaches is appealing and invaluable-one only has to look at Stamford bridge to see how not to do it. I am not saying Guardiola is the right choice-he may or may not be, but we should at least be looking into it. And no this isnt a knee jerk reaction-this is based on an objective analysis of our current manager who has won squat in recent memory-and the closest we have come recently (vs Birmingham) he bottled it with his starting line up. Are we the only club on the planet where the manager evaluates his performace and job security? There are countless examples of poor managerial decisions in the last 5 years, yet somehow he gets a free pass based on passed success-when does that credit finally run out? We’re in danger of turning into Liverpool-which we should heed as a cautionary tale. We dont need to blow this thing up-just re-tool. And the problem is I am not sure Arsene is the guy to do that job.

        Bring back my team.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 2

  103. We’re on the painful end of these big eventful games too often, but when you go down to 10 men and lose to the defnsing champions, let’s apply some perspective. It was obvious to me we still need to strengten. But we fought a good bit in the second half and gave them a game despite being a man down.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 0

  104. on the subject of theo . i dont see clubs queuing up to sign him . only one rumor to scousers . that must tell us something ! the guy is a one in 6 player

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

    • They won’t want him now they’ve signed Sturridge…And no top six side would play him as a striker anyway…if he went to a top six side who would he play instead of????

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  105. He should get his head out of his arse…play on the right where he made his name, where he can benefit the team most, and where he became an England international…

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

  106. The Loving Hands of Wenger

Let’s be honest, Arsenal has gone from invincible to disgusting. Predictable, lame, impotent, boring, laboured, parodied, cringe worthy, pathetic, clueless … I could go on and on and on.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 2

  107. Instead of paying millions for average players like Gervinho, Giroud, Squillaci, Park and so on, why not spend this money on players that’ll actually improve the team and justify the mad salaries they get ?

It’s one of the least talented, passionate, interested etc. Arsenal side I’ve seen in quite some time.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  108. Very proud of the lads in the second half. I pray Wilshire and Sagna survive this season.

    Kroenke out.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  109. Another game, another loss.

I used to remember the days when Arsenal was challenging for the title, and how we played against mid table teams like Everton, Newcastle or spurs. Teams that we expected to beat but we were still wary of – for on their day, they had the potential to produce the odd spectacular performance.

I guess this is how the top 3 view Arsenal now.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  110. I don’t know why, when Giroud is not on the pitch, we even bother trying to cross. Walcott is not going to leap 6ft in the air and launch a bullet header into the top corner, he’s also unlikely to hold off a defender and volley it in. Also I can’t understand the thinking behind shoving Mertesacker up front when we’re getting desperate, it’s not like he’s known for goals, or amazing technique or even though he’s tall, scoring with his head. It would make far more sense to shove Vermaelen up there, we know he can finish, he can shoot with power, he can header, and Mertesacker is the better defender so makes sense to leave him back.
    Baffled

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

  111. TW14 played well! verminator! He showed real fight. RVP has gone, let’s not think what if. He accused us of lack of ambition. The signings of Caz and Pod weren’t enough for him. Don’t give Walcott a contract or give him one and stick him on the wing. COYG!

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 4

  112. Can’t argue with Kos’ sending off. From the view of where dean was standing on the pitch, it clearly looks like Kos attempts top tackle their forward like American football or rugby. A yellow card and a penalty kick would have been more sensible as the game literally just started, but that’s how it goes sometimes.
Why Per wasn’t n the starting 11 from the start, only Wenger knows. Just like the Chelsea game, when everyone is fit, the boss seems to think that Verm and kos are our best pairing. As Blogs has said in the past, they are too similar! Per with either one of them has yielded are best results this year but Le Boss seems to think not.
With lack of transfer activity and Spuds looking like a stronger team at the moment, this team will really struggle to get 4th place.
Agreed with thread at the top – selling RVP to United is maybe the worst piece of transfer business in the history of EPL.
24 million squid in the bank for instant gratification but no Champions League money next year as a result.
Should have sold him to Juve for half of what United paid us even if that meant us not getting Giroud because of the smaller transfer price, it still would have been better not to see HIM scoring for fun in THEIR shirt.
    Kronke out!

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  113. Arsenal is carved in my heart and thats why it pains me more.
In days gone by Arsenal were more sure of winning than losing, Nowadays the opposite is true, hoping for a Win rather than Sure of one.
Arsene is one of the longest serving managers who is doin the opposite i.e. came on a high now downward spiral. It was an unlucky game ( Koscielny rammed into Dzeko like a Coach Edin nowhere – Should consider American Football, maybe he will make better use of his shoulders)
Gunner Gooner We are …. the game plays on…..

  118. we’d have been better off ‘doing a spain’. dragging walcott and poldi back to the wings, pushing cazorla up a little, and playing with no striker. I really don’t believe in this 4-3-3 with our current squad. if you’re going to have4/5 very attacking palyers on the pitch, you really need a ball winner and calming influence in the middle. arteta has been trying his best for the sake of the team to fill that role. but its not playing to his strengths. I feel a bit sorry for him, making the last big move of his career to a top club to get a chance in europe. a lovely attacking player with a great pass and an eye for a 20 yarder, shackled in midfield trying to poke his finger in the damn as water pours out all around him.

anyway – here’s nasri getting an earful from the fans as he walks(!! idiot) to the city game….

  119. We should convert Vermallen to a DM and look for a solid defender to pair Per and or Kosceilny – he is strong, fast, good earialy, nitch for scoring goals, ok defensively that way less pressure on the defence and the likes of Carzola and wilshere can express them selves easily. It will be similar to what Sergio Busquet does for Barca.aht We shouls also not focus so much on Walcot because the gus has made up his mind to go – he’s only playing hide and sick ensuring he plays regularly to improve his prize at the market. We should recall Bendtner and Denilson – these guys can still contribute positevely to the team.

  120. I will agree, yesterday Wenger did some silly things. Playing Koscielny instead of Mertesacker, letting Diaby start, … I still believe in Wenger but he is starting to lose his ‘magic touch’.

My main concern however is our board. They won’t care if we don’t win a trophy for another 50 years as long as we’re making profit. I’m a die-hard Arsenal fan from Belgium and try to attend every big game at The Emirates (for 7 years now). You may see me as another tourist filling the stadium but I can assure you I sing my heart out at every game! A couple of years ago I couldn’t get a single ticket for these games, and had to pay alot less when I eventually got one. Now they are putting games like these on General Sale, and don’t even sell out. How can they justify the fact that I have to pay almost double the ticket price when there is so much more availability???

They have let our star quality players leave for such small amounts of money! (compared to other teams) Van Persie for 20 or so million??!!
Fabregas, Song, Van Persie (,Walcott, Wilshere???) … where will it stop?

I will never stop supporting my beloved Arsenal!!! But some people inside our club have to take a deep look inside themselves and start realizing: “what are we doing?!”
