Podolski happy with form and Gibbs relationship

Podolski happy with form and Gibbs relationship

Lukas Podolski says Kieran Gibbs has been an important part in his impressive adaptation to English football and that there’s more to come from the pair.

Speaking to the official matchday programme, the German said, “Our relationship is good. Kieran is more than a left-back, he is always happy to get forward and help me.

“It gives me a lot of options and sometimes it allows me to move further forward or inside. We find solutions together and it’s going well.”

The former Cologne man is happy with his form since arriving last summer, but also says he can improve.

“It’s been a good half season for me, I’m happy. I’ve come to a new league, a new country and done ok. I now have 10 goals and 7 assists, and I think those are good figures.

“It could be better – you can always be better – but I think it’s decent because I’m playing more as a left-sided midfielder than a striker.

“When you play up front, or in the number 10 position like Santi, you have more chances to score. I just want to to help the team get more points.”

The matchday programm is available on iPad – and jolly good it is too.

  1. the title made me giggle. “Podolski happy with his figure, and his relationship with Kieran.”

  2. Long may the relationship continues. I can’t wait for it to give us trophies though!

  3. JESUS. The picture is so misleading. Looks like they are at the chapel and the father just said “You may now kiss the bride”

  4. I like Poldi. He’s been invisible on a few games this season, but still happy with him overall. Would prefer to see him as a central striker now and again though.

Gibbs has surprised me too, some really great performances from him. Looking forward to having two English full-backs that gel together.

If he gets Gibbs up the duff, we’ll have to play Santos for 9 months.

  7. Why is Kieran getting up the duff? He’s a man…..and what a man!

    • Counterpoint: Fuck that shit.

Thumb up 69 Thumb down 1

    • Another counterpoint: He’s done nothing but slag off the club since he left. He’s a cunt.

Thumb up 65 Thumb down 1

    • cesc, I understand your point, although you’ve got it slightly wrong…

We need a player like Nasri, but not a person like Nasri!! A player in his mold who is not a cunt would be lovely

  9. sorry to be cynical but arent these “news” stories annoying everyone else? I’m glad with podolski’s performances this season and the left wings partnership is great to watch but these “new” stories are nothing I dont care if you are happy with your figure or scsz is playing up gooner credentials unless we’re winning it essentially means nothing!! AAHH I think its not helping that no tranfers in to the club have happened and theres no indication that any will happen :(

    • Why don’t you whine some more?

    • It is a news story and this is a news site not a rumour one. There are a million websites peddling ‘Arsenal interested in ————-’ . Although I agree we’re all desperate to hear that we’ve signed someone I’m just thinking about a result tomorrow.

Thumb up 28 Thumb down 3

      • I understand the thumbs down and I understand that this site cuts the bullshit out and can only report what is a true story but what I’m arguing is that these storie wont effect our results signing someone will.
        there you go bearcum

      • DoubleDoubleDouble

If Arseblog only posted stories when Arsenal signed someone, then we’d forget the site existed.

Watching football is entertainment – which a lot of people seem to lose sight of – and this story, with the caption and amazingly appropriate photograph is entertaining.

    • I feel slightly more pessimistic than last season for some reaseon. We aren’t doing too bad at the moment but it’s true I’d like to see at least a signing just to ease my nerves and not have a panic attack once or twice a week. I think we just need more bulk in the midfield to see out games better.

      Oh to be a gooner!

  10. Podolski is fucking wasted on the wing. Best finisher at the club right now!! Should be played thru the middle ffs

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 10

    • Similarly to theo he seems to do better as a second rather than lone out and out striker, and our formation doesn’t support that. Besides when he does come through the middle he bangs in goals, when he’s out wide he sets them up for others. Can’t really see a problem there.

  11. i dont understand why?

they dont need time to adapt

they are proven and quality players

    they were arsenal players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 25

    • You’re a lunatic if you think Cesc and Nasri would return to Arsenal at the moment. Move on.

Thumb up 47 Thumb down 3

  12. Read from somewhere that Gibbs, on average, plays furtherforward than Podolski. Don’t know if that’s still the case as I read that earlier on in the season, but i think their relationship along with Santi, because of his tendancy to drift to the left, is a real strong point for us. I hope they all stay fit for the rest of the season because that is the part of Arsenal that I have enjoyed so much this season. Liverpool(away) is still my favourite game of the season for so many different reasons, but especially because of these 3 guys. Up the Arsenal, up the Gunners

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 1

  13. Who’s a better finisher than poldi then… teo ‘I’m off’ walcunt ?

Thumb up 22 Thumb down 4

  14. he is definitely better than Gervinho

  15. Blogs, it seems after I read ur instalment today in the blogpage, that we are now roughly at the same point.

My patience with this status quo of transfer window press conference bs and mid season bs such as “the spirit is high in this squad” after a win, and “there was a lack of focus” after another loss/shit draw.

I’m sick of the crap we have to put up with now, Wilshere aside, not one player in this squad would get near the Invincibles and that is down to Wenger or the board or both. Tottenham are in process of finally overtaking us and not one team in the EPL fear our fixture anymore, home or away and thaey are the depths I believe we are at with new levels to come in near future.

What is going to have to happen to change this, a 4 or 5 goal loss to Citeh or Chavski may force AW to buy another Santos or Gervinho but I’m sorry, I wouldn’t give him another penny.

Please give me some answers lads, is this our long term future???

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 15

    • We can start by understanding that The Invincibles were a lucky set of gents who, fortunately for us, worked extremely well under their manager as well as amongst themselves. By understanding that we can understand that there isn’t, and will NEVER be a set of gents as perfect as or even as close to perfect as The Invincibles were. I’m not saying we will never win a tropy again, or that we will always be playing piss poor seasons and seasons to come, I’m just saying, stop expecting our squad to be like The Invincibles. There was only one Invisibles and that’s how it most likely will remain. I would like to be proven wrong…

  16. I’m not sure why Poldi is so happy with his form. There’s plenty of room for improvement. He’s been decent but not consistent. His tendency to completely disappear is rather worrying at times, but then he’ll have a game where he just destroys everything in his wake.
In his first game, when he tackled back and barged past two or three opposition players I thought we had a real player on our hands. We need to see that every game. His finishing is devastating so I really hope we see him play to his full potential. I really like the guy.

Thumb up 30 Thumb down 0

  17. Why are peeps talking about bringing cesc and nasri back. Bloody nob-jockeys! We want players that actually want to be here. Also, only in a parallel universe would there be a chance of that happening. Deluded fucks

Thumb up 19 Thumb down 4

  18. Anyone else read the discontent in his words? You get more chances to score playing as a striker or as a number 10 like Santi (read: I want to play there, Wenger).

Lets hope he gets the chance – a winger to play on the left would certainly do us no harm, and I’m confident that Podolski can score playing up front given the chance.

Thumb up 21 Thumb down 0

  19. Thing is Gervinho came in first half of the season last year on the LW and next to the best CF in the world produced 4 goals and 6 assists by the half way mark. In that sense, Podolski has had a a very good first start with 10 goals and 7 assists, the trick for him is to carry this on till the end of the season otherwise we’ll have a problem,

I bet if youngsters Jack, Carl, Kieran, Alex, Theo, and (bless his cotton socks) Aaron went on a proper piss up with Merson, Adams, Graham, winterburn, Groves and Richardson. Those kids and the old man would return warriors with a no nonsense approach, which would rip through this league

  27. We. Are. Fucked. Wenger is all powerful at the club and happy enough with 4th. Sold the league to utd. Would fergie do that? Doubt it. The mid table club with the biggest capacity stadium. That’s our prize. Can’t believe the Invicibles are so craven. Sad.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 13

  28. Believe it or not, I’ll tell you Lukas Podoski is without a doubt the best striker in the Arsenal squad. Just take a look at all the goal scoring opportunities being fluffed away by Giroud and Gervhino and you should get the picture.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 3

    • You don’t have any sense of proportion. Those are good players you are insulting who’ve scored some quality goals. Our problem hasn’t been poor finishing but slow build up. This is a team that doesn’t have much experience playing with each other. And anyway Podolski can come inside and take shots. Giroud is always chipping him the ball right inside the box.
