Walcott: time to start learning from mistakes

Walcott: time to start learning from mistakes

Theo Walcott says it’s about time that Arsenal started learning from the mistakes they make which have cost them games this season.

As pointed out in Tim’s By the numbers piece, Arsenal have made 17 individual errors which have led to the concession of Premier League goals (more than any other team), and the newly signed Walcott is concerned that too many points are being dropped because of it.

“It’s a shame that we conceded two sloppy goals and then woke up a bit,” he told the official site. “We need to show that character and desire to win from the start, not when we concede a goal.

“That is the disappointing thing. We dominated the second half and it is just a shame that we could not get the equaliser that we probably deserved. There were some positives to take out of it, but we need to start learning from the mistakes that we have made.”

But with West Ham arriving at the Emirates on Wednesday, Walcott thinks that the second half display provides some encouragement ahead of another crucial London derby.

“We have a tough game at home against West Ham, so we need to be ready. It is a massive game, we have home support and we need to start clocking up points there.

“We have been hot and cold at home of late, so we must be very positive and if we show the commitment that we did in the second half we should be fine.”

  1. Should’ve learned from these mistakes years ago. Same old.

    • Theo, now you are earning £100k a week pop back to football school and enrol in the following courses:
      The offside rule.
      How to take free kicks.
      How to take corners.
How to not disappear in games.
How to show some heart when the chips are down.

      What a joke.

Thumb up 61 Thumb down 44

      • Even if Theo is guilty of disappearing in games, atleast he does score goals and mostly takes his chances now. I like Giroud but at the moment he doesn’t take his chances when he gets them and that is costing us greatly. That chance yesterday in the beginning of the game, away at chelsea you must take it no question about it.

Thumb up 89 Thumb down 4

      • I maybe a pessimistic fuck but I will not stand for any theo bashing. Despite all his imperfections he delivers, not you.perhaps would have liked but he delivers. I think we are used to bashing certain players it’s become a ritual now no matter how shit the ENTIRE team might have played. When Is the last time Cazorla aced a game? But you don’t mention that do ya?

Thumb up 70 Thumb down 11

      • R18 is right. It’s just bashing Theo for the sake of it. He played well and he was one of the standout players of the game.

Thumb up 32 Thumb down 9

      • Blame Wenger not the players.

Thumb up 26 Thumb down 21

      • Giroud does need to up his game, good looks will only get you so far buddy. If Theo get’s a decent chance now i usually fancy him to finish it, so people need to lay off him a bit. I think we can all agree that our defense is the main issue. I think that maybe because Wenger wants ever aspect of his team to be easy on the eye, he might be giving our defenders to much freedom to express them self’s like they are all beautiful unique snow flakes, rather than being one tough solid well drilled machine.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 1

      • What we are bashing Theo now,… damn i was still on the bashing Ramsey bandwagon…

Truth be told some of the so called fans are the ones who we should bashing every time they turn their back s on the team as soon as results are not going our way.

        Till mid week chaps… COYG

      • Pong of the OxCoq

In Wenger Wonderland, attack is the best form of defense… We have Giroud and Walcott… Which one of these two muppets would be a starter in the invincibles?
Says it all really…. Worse when you think that Theo ‘the second cumming of Henry’ Lolcott was holding the club to ransom….
Still think Podolski is the best striker currently at the club and should be given a run of games up front… Wasn’t he top scorer in Germany before he came over?

    • Er Theo could you add your name to this piece of shit for the web site. I know it’s the same old guff but we have to come out with something and the usual suspects have already put their names to some other shit. And what with your new contract we feel it would be good coming from you.

OK but if we lose the West Ham game you’re going to have to get someone else for comments.

Nice one. I’m sure we’ll beat West Ham at home. Might even have some new signings by then, only joking.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 25

    • Should have learned to learn from his mistakes a long time ago, which in itself is a mistake so i guess he’s learned lo learn from that mistake which means he really means it and he will learn from his mistakes…..

      What a steep learning curve

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 2

  2. Walcott, clinical finisher. Should learn how to stay onside and beat the offside trap though. Glad he stayed, that’s 20% off the selling club tag. Now new signings please.

Thumb up 59 Thumb down 0

    • And while playing as a winger can use some of jesus navas clips. He just need to know he can put ball in space and he will be first to get there, dribbling is not his Arsenal.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

  3. Individual errors are killing the team. It still balls down to lack of depth/options as far as I am concerned.

Lets hope we actually acquire some new signings before the end of the transfer window.

A traditional DM and a point-man for starters!

Thumb up 23 Thumb down 1

  4. Mistakes like wasting EVERY FUCKING DEAD BALL SITUATION WE GET…
    Eh Theo?!

Thumb up 74 Thumb down 4

    • he did one good corner all game, its not good enough

apart from which he’s a pretty good finisher, he should be in the box trying to score from a knockdown or 2nd ball.
he’s also fast so it would be better for him to be central to help chase them down if they have a fast break from out shit corners

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 0

  5. I have to say this, amidst of all the shit that’s been happening with the club on and off(transfers) field, I am glad Theo signed a new contract. I didn’t feel that happy on any of his previous goal this season as I did when he scored against Chelski.

Thumb up 35 Thumb down 2

    • Fergie the Gooner

I felt like that too. His previous goals this season had me feeling mixed emotions, but I enjoyed that one much more. Hopefully there are lots more to come!

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 2

  6. Fergie the Gooner

Well we need to do it quickly because we’re running out of opportunities to redeem ourselves. We need to go on a good run starting with West Ham on Wednesday evening and with little over a week to the end of the transfer window it looks like we’re going to have to make do with what we’ve got.

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 0

  7. So is the boycott of the United game going to happen.

    I really hope so.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 11

    • not gonna renew season ticket

is this (boycott of United game 27th April) idea for real? i was actually really looking forward to booing that dutch cunt, but i can also see a ‘deeper’ meaning of choosing that partcular game to boycott moreso than any other.

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 1

      • I won’t be going. Only one way to make this club worry- hit them where it hurts, in the wallet. They’ll stand for finishing 5th or 6th as long as 60,000 still go to the Emirates, once we start acting rather than moaning they’ll soon listen and change things.

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 2

      • Boycotting a game at the end of April is stupid. Boycotting early games during January might convince the management to make a signing. But boycotting a game will only have a negative effect on the team that late in the season as could well cost us cl qualification. Agree that something has to be done though.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 4

      • Mate, the team is already helping itself to NOT qualifying for the cl. It doesnt need any sort of help from boycotting fans!

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 1

    • I hope not. It’s a fucking stupid cunt of an idea

Thumb up 15 Thumb down 6

  8. i dont think its just individual errors, its the players playing as individuals and not as a team.

that first half performance, were we a team? no

when we dont have the ball we look like a bunch of disinterested strangers, players jogging slowly back, if they feel like it, waiting for someone else to get the ball and give it back to them

i dont know what we do all week in training, but i despair every time i see that disorganised rabble

when chelsea had a corner, our players are looking at the ground, no communication, no urgency to get organised, no enthusiasm to be there, alertness

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 0

  9. I know they have to come out with this stuff after games, but I’d personally feel a lot better if I could get them all in a room together and say as calmly as I can:-

SHUT THE FUCK UP!! DON’T JUST TALK ABOUT, FUCKING DO IT YOU BUNCH OF FUCKING LEMONS!!!

I’m sure I could do that calmly enough.

Thumb up 25 Thumb down 1

  10. Theo has been getting some sticking for his taking corners. But then again at the beginning of the season he wasn’t taking them and i don’t remember us scoring from a corner/crossing situation(except city away which wasn’t exactly a great corner).

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 3

  11. Theos contract demands.

    – I must start and finish every competitive match as the team’s central striker. In addition to this, yellow lines will be painted upon the Emirates’ pitch to separate the two wide areas from the central third. I shall never be required to pass beyond the central area.

That the being locked up in a room to hear endless recordings of dennis bergkamp through the walls saying “that’s what a footballing brain is goddamnit” should stop immediately.

P/s I will take corners and free kicks unless not intersted.

    Yours theo.

  13. In a comments section that’s just filled with the usual negativity and shit, this comment made me very happy.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 4

  14. Id like to believe Theo but we never seem to learn from our mistakes. We’ve been making the same mistakes over and over for years now.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 2

  15. i want to boff giroud and im not even gay

i seriously think that instead of working on things like how to defend as a unit, how to take set pieces, how to pass forward etc, the lads are just putting together the press conference rota. They all have to take their turn telling us all how they need to learn from mistakes and how great the spirit is and how much they all fucking like each other. Blogs and co, could we have a ban on ‘learn from mistakes’ press conference articles? All they do is make us want to smash our heads against the wall and the players never fucking learn anyway.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

    • I agree with you but it’s not going to happen while Wenger is manager. When have we ever been good at defending set pieces – or scoring from them, come to that? I get the sense Wenger doesn’t like that sort of specifics-focused coaching. He sees as the kind of thing teams that can’t actually play football rely on to pick up the points – and he’s right: consider Stoke who provide extensive coaching in shirt-pulling and wrestling players to the ground which is most effective when defending set-pieces.

Still, there ought to be a middle way. There was an interview with Tony Adams at the weekend (in the Independent, I think) where he said he hoped Bould was being given ACCESS (tactful way of putting it) to the defenders. Some people have suggested that the big improvement in our defending – we were the best in the league for the first couple of months – and the praise Bould was getting got up Wenger’s nose so he curtailed Bould’s ‘access’ forthwith. Sounds horribly plausible, I’m afraid, and would account for the widespread reports that their relationship had become rather strained, but I hope it’s not true.

  16. See? Fucking stupid players think we’re mugs.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 2

  17. He was really our only option for scoring yesterday, I thought he made some great runs and narrowly caught offside, you can say this was poor on his part of that possibly the pass was too late…

However, he did keep making the runs and took his chance excellently, if it had of been Giroud I don’t think the outcome would have been the same. Giroud is working hard, winning balls and knock downs but his finishing leaves a lot to be desired right now. They do work well together so the best option is certainly Giroud down the middle and Theo out wide cutting in and making runs.

For me the consistent mistakes come down to two possible things…the manager is not coaching the mistakes out of the team or the players are not listening, either way that is a massive worry.

  18. This is what wenger should do:
    1) announce his pending departure in May
    2) Arsenal as a club stay united and fight for 4th in wenger’s “final season”
    3) he leaves arsenal with his head held high

What kroenke and gazidis should do:
    1) fuck off back to the u.s.a and never set foot in north london again

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 17

  19. Kroenke and gazidis have transformed wenger into an idiot.

Poor old Theo can’t do anything right. Didn’t the Theo bashing stop while we were hoping he would sign a new deal? Normal business resumes I see. The team is riddled with mediocrity and underachievers, why pick on Walcott? Cazorla seems to have golden gonads in many fans eyes but despite some pretty passes and numerous long range shots can we really say he’s performing to The Arsenal standard? A hatrick against a terrible Reading side and he thinks he’s done enough for the season.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 1

    • What are you talking about?
Cazorla is world class, and Giroud, he’s just so handsome.
Walcott does nothing for the team, I don’t understand why Wenger can’t make him stop taking corners and free kicks.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 5

  25. Blah blah Arsene crap, Arsenal crap, this player crap, that player crap, this player that was great last week is now crap and doesn’t deserve to play for Arsenal. I don’t understand why people come up here just to complain incessantly. Go support someone else that you don’t have to complain about! As for those people who keep going on about how light our squad is compared to Man Utd, I just don’t agree. Our first choice midfield is better than theirs. With the exception of RVP, I’m not sure who from their team I’d have in the Arsenal XI ahead of our best players.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 16

    • Manure are 22 points ahead of us. Enough said.

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 0

    • Midfield Corporal

I agree that on face value (and probably red and white tinted spectacles) our squad is not that far off United’s. however I think their team have a will and belief instilled by Ferguson that our side lacks. I’m sure he wouldn’t accept players putting in a shift once every 5 games. I would be interested to see how the two teams faired if they swapped managers.

  26. Watching This Zambian sunzu guy right now. Afcon. Let’s see if he is any good. It’s sad but this is what we have to deal with under Wenger.

  27. Did Walcott get a bit smarter with a 100k a week? Or is he just that stupid. I wonder.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 3

  28. I’m glad that Theodore appreciates that for 100k per week he is obliged to give his cunning football insight as well as some goals. Bravo, brave sir.

I hear that contrary to the usual agreement that on loan players won’t play against their parent club, Arsene insisted that Chamakh started against us.

  30. i dont understand..are we attackng through the middle or from wings””walcots reluctance to play out wide is costing us dearly…no crosses at all from hm as we used to see….thats why giroud z not scoring from headers nowadayz….instead of crossing…he always wants to intercept giroud in the box….this is y sagna is underperforming….has to defend an take crosses at the same time

  31. Pal, on what you are earning it is time to STOP making mistakes.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  32. Yeah u should considered you held the club to ransom with 100k demand.

I got a feeling Walcott is going to do an Adebayor!

  33. He's got no hair but we don't care...

Does anyone seriously believe we ‘re going to sign any players?

    No, neither do I.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  34. We are 19 points away from QPR and 22 points away from Man Utd.

Things that make you go hmmmm…..

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

  35. Don’t understand the attacks on Theo now that he’s signed but we just lost a big game to a London rival, so somebody’s got to take the blame I suppose.
I thought he took his goal wonderfully. Yes, his offsides were annoying, but it happend to Thierry as well. I don’t think he should be taking corners, but at least he’s off free kicks now.
Giroud should have finished that early chance. Very poor. He does all the correct things a centre forward should do, except be clinical when a chance presents itself to him. He would have been a great back up or alternative to RVP late in a game that we were chasing.
As long as HFB wears an Arsenal kit, I’m on his side but does anyone really trust him to score if he finds himself one on one with only the keeper to beat?
I love Santi, but he’s been underperforming lately as well.
3 pts on Wednesday is a must.
No more big games until Spuds away so hopefully we can add to the points total.
