Wojciech staying positive despite ‘setback’

Wojciech staying positive despite ‘setback’

Wojciech Szczesny says Arsenal will remain positive despite dropping points against Southampton last night.

The Gunners struggled in a game against a team battling relegation but after 4 consecutive wins and a draw, the Polish keeper is keeping his glass on the half full side as the team heads into a busy, and possibly pivotal, month.

“Obviously we had a little setback at Southampton, but there is a very good sprit in the dressing room. We are on a good little run. We won four league games on the trot but didn’t get the three points here, which is the most important thing.

“We hope to do well in the FA Cup and then carry on our run in the Premier League.”

With games to come against Swansea in the cup, who beat us in the league last month, and league fixtures against Man City, West Ham and Liverpool, the schedule is tough.

“I think it will be a very good test for us,” Szczesny said. “We are confident because we are on a good run. It is not just two tough games, because we have Liverpool soon after as well.

“It could not come at a better time because we are confident and playing well.”

Let’s hope for a couple of signings to boost the team and that the good little run keeps on going. Brick walls need not apply.

  1. I love Szczesny’s self confidence. I wish it would rub off on the rest of the team.

    • I bet this stat here does not inspire any confidence whatsoever.

Arsenal had fewer shots in the Southampton
game (6) than they have had in any Premier
League game in the last 4 seasons.

    • it did and it led to complacency

    • We are on a good run? What good run?

I always thought the board and management are delusional but I guess our players also have the symptoms.

We have become the Atletico Madrid’s of the world (without the trophies of course) — we are nothing more than a feeder club to real clubs with winning mentalities. So frustrating…

I get a stomach ulcer every time I see RVP’s highlights wearing a united kit… I don’t blame RVP, Nasri, Clichy, Ces (Walcott or Sagna) one bit for leaving

We bitch about Chelsea? I would love to have an owner that wants to win at any cost…Our ownership/manager doesn’t want to pay the cost to win…

      • DoubleDoubleDouble

13 points from the last 15 is a “good little run”, just like he said.

You can bitch and moan all you want, but of the last 5 games played, the most any team has picked up is 13 points – Arsenal, Spurs and Man Utd.

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 3

      • That’s the difference between us and united. Ferguson would rip everyone a new one for barely beating Wigan and WB (if I am not mistaken both wins were because of questionable penalties), and dropping points to Southampton (we even got a lucky OG). For us, this is a good run…for others this is a horrible run they lucked out on. We played like shit 3 of the 5 games agains shit teams.

But hey, Ramsey signed a new contract so we should be OK…

So how else would you describe 13 points out of a possible 15? A shit run?

  2. That answers the question posed in the Djourou article then.

  5. Szczesney had gone quiet in this for sometime now. Perhaps he’s learnt like us fans, talk is not gonna take us anywhere. And he has gone on to put quite a good shift on the pitch. Good for him.

  6. Question : how the fuck does one pronounce Arseblog? Is it ‘arse’ as in ‘you went to prison and got fucked up the arse’ or ‘ars-e’ as is Arsenal? Is the e emphasised at all?

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 22

    • How can you even arse such a question?

Thumb up 32 Thumb down 1

      • That’s arse good arse it gets for you Tenzo.

      • I guess ignorance is not appreciated round here. And at the end of it all, I got thumbed down to oblivion, and I still dont know whether I’m pronouncing Arseblog correctly lol. Gooner till I get fucked up the arse, however the fuck you pronounce it.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 4

      • DoubleDoubleDouble

I pronounce Arseblog the same as I do Arsenal, but as I have a London accent, I pronounce Arsenal as Ars-nal, not Ars-enal.

        I hope this helps.

There is only one way to pronounce “arse”. It has an R in it. Even when they mis-spell it as ‘ass” they still pronounce it with an R in it.

Arsenal, Arsene, Arsehole, Asshole, Arsewipe, lard-arse. parse, pass, past, ass, arse – they’re all pronounced the same, with a long R

Now lets see some twat from Noocassle or Livverpule tell me different.

  7. 1 all wasn’t such a terrible result it can happen to any team, but it was the performance and lack of shots on goal on the back of what should have been a confidence building run that’s worrying. That and the fact it keeps happening and we always seem to be only a game or two away from being absolutely terrible.
Seems to be a mental or motivational thing and seriously needs addressing. In the league we can get it back with a run but the cups as shown against Bradford we can’t and the sooner arsene sorts it the nearer we may get to winning a trophy.

Thumb up 16 Thumb down 1

    • It’s just especially stark coming off the back of the 7-3 a few days earlier. Arsenal are not merely temperamental, they’re positively bi-polar.

Thumb up 22 Thumb down 0

    • This team’s about as schizo as it gets Voldermort, but in a weird way, I’m more certain of what’s gonna happen in games.

At no stage against Newcastle could I see anything other than a win (especially at 7-3….), but yesterday, we knew after 10 minutes we wouldn’t win as the players just weren’t at the races.

Not sure if that makes it better or worse than the recent past where we could batter the oppo and still nause it up (Wigan 2-3, Newcastle 4-4, Spuds 4-4 etc).

The Arsenal – fucking with people’s minds since 1886.

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 0

    • Exactly. Any team can occasionally fail to get a result or have a bad game. Trouble is, our bad games have outnumbered our good ones and even when we’ve got the three points our performance has often looked far from convincing and the win a bit of a fluke – an offside goal in a goal-mouth scrabble in the 89th minute v. QPR comes to mind.

I like Szczesny’s positivity; I’m glad he thinks the atmosphere in the dressing-room is upbeat. I just don’t believe him. I mean, he’s hardly going to say the players are sunk in depression and haven’t a clue what they can do to turn things around.

Turning things around is Wenger’s job. He needs to identify the cause of the problem and take decisive steps to correct it. His vague mutterings about 2013 being a glorious year, promptly followed by further vague mutterings about wanting to strengthen the team from top to bottom, are not reassuring.

Actually I’m pissed off with positive sentiments because they’ve come to sound hollow and clueless to me. I’d rather hear an honest assessment. Honesty followed by prompt and decisive action insofar as our budget allows – that’s what we and the players need to see at the moment.

Here’s a radical thought that will get me banned.

Why not get Wenger to hire Harry the Twitch to teach him how to do genuine “Go Team Go”.

I’m getting fed up with hearing from players and manager what a great team spirit we have. Team spirit happens on the pitch, not in the press. If it’s great in the changing room then wonderful, but that is what they call “banter”. We need genuine team spirit. I don’t see any at the moment.

Team spirit is shouting encouragement to eachother. Team spirit is running your heart out for the other guys. Team spirit is never giving up trying no matter how bad or even how good it gets. Team spirit is always wanting to do better.

I think we’ll see genuine team spirit when we play Swansea in the FA Cup. You’ll recognise it when we let them score the winner with 90 seconds left on the clock.

Come on then Arsenal. Prove me fucking wrong!

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  8. And a league game away to Chelski not mentioned. Realistically how many points will we get out of these 4?

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

    • Lets be optimistic about these games instead. The players wasn’t good at all yesterday, but they underestimated their opponents i think.

We got a good chance to win against those teams if they play as they did against newcastle.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 2

      • I go into every game with the belief we will win. Ofcorse we might get beat, but for those 90+ mins I believe that Arsenal will go away victorious.

Thumb up 19 Thumb down 2

      • Gutbukkit Deffrolla

But we only beat Newcastle because they tired at the end of the game. We were not playing well until then. The Newcastle game is not one to use as an example of how to approach a game.

  9. If we could sign one player in this window, who’s most peoples choice? A Messi-Gervinho swap is probably out of the question….

    • I heard we were going for Biglia. Not a bad option and probably not that expensive.

In terms of strikers, well, it’s slim pickings really. Villa would be welcome, but he’d be more a stop-gap than anything. Would be nice to have more experience though.

  12. So Chels and Liverpool have done business already……prepared, decisive and professional. Arsenal? Dithering and penny pinching. Bunch of wankers.

  13. Harbinger of goon

All day we all had to listen to how we where very poor against the saints, and I’d like to point out a few things:

    – We WHERE very very poor yesterday
    – Southhampton deserved all 3 points
    – Our average player rating was 5 IMO
    – Did I mention we played like crap!

Now all day I had to endure various media outputs hammering us into the ground, but when manure have an off day like we did it is a great point for them! Fergitson is a genius and so on and so on. For me I think alot of us thought we would just turn up and spank southhampton, and it wasn’t the case. Yesterday we got a good point with everything considered, so I think we all need to try and stay positive (nervous laugh!!) about our team. We do need to strengthen, that’s quite clear, but lets not throw our season off the cliff just yet. Here hoping this transfer window brings some new faces, ideas and some positive direction taken by the club. Oh and a trophy would be really nice!

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 2

    • We can’t compare ourselves with Man Utd & you can’t compare Ferguson with Wenger!
Man Utd would not have 4 shots against Southampton, Fergie would have unleashed the hair dryer at half time & RVP would have scored :-(

Lets just strengthen the squad in the transfer window & see where we are in May!
Anyone optimistic about Swansea at the weekend?!?
      Me neither :-(

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 9

      • Harbinger of goon

I’m not comparing ourselves with Manure, and I’m certainly not comparing monsuire wenger with fergitson! The media battered us all day about our performance, but had a love in about if it was manure it would have been a great point. The negativity was unbelievable, and completly hyped up by the media! Please don’t misinterpret what I’m saying, but I would concede that wenger’s psychology at times leaves me quite bamboozled!!

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 1

      • But we used to compare ourselves to United. It’s not that long ago that we could go into any game (except possibly Barca away) thinking there was a fair chance we would win. It’s not that long ago we came close to winning the CL. Now we’re saying that a draw with a newly promoted and relegation-doomed club (achieved by means of an own goal) is a decent result?

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 1

      • I know Miranda, but its the reality of the situation & even though it sucks we have to accept facts and unfortunately we are nowhere near Man Utd’s level anymore .

I remember arguing with Man Utd supporting mates, that Arsene would catch up to Fergie’s premiership titles, when Man Utd had 5 premiership titles to our 3!!
You have no idea how stupid i feel whenever i get reminded of that argument, but i remain adamant that he’ll catch up but now they dont even argue back they just look at me in pity :-(

Fergie not only won the war, he won the battle, captured our land, enslaved our people, raped our wom(e)n & turned our kids against us :-(

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 2

      • The problem is that arsenal have sold their best players nothing else. Arsenal have not really replaced them, and will not do it. We will just have to wait for Wilshere etc. At the moment we desperatly need new signings.

The problem is that the board/manager aims to finish 4th, you can’t go in to a tournament/league with the attitude to finish 4th as a top club. The Manure cunts win their matches because anything except winning just isn’t good enough. They always go in to matches with the attitude to win things.

If you don’t go in to a tournament with the attitude to win it, you have already lost before it has started.

This is the biggest difference between winners and losers, we don’t got any winner mentality. Just watch Canada in Icehockey, they would litteraly kill their opponents to win the game, thats winner mentality doing everything to win the game.

A lot of people thinks Manure is lucky to manage to get a result every game but luck you deserves unfortunatly.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

      • Glory hunter, I agree absolutely about facing up to reality, but that includes never losing sight of the extent of our decline in the years of Kroenke and the stadium debt. We shouldn’t start thinking of a draw with Sunderland or Southampton as a decent result.

What matters, though, is not how we see things but how Wenger and Gazidis are seeing them. Obviously neither of them are going to admit publicly how bad things have got – certainly not to the fans since they need to keep the season-ticket money rolling in, and not to Kroenke either. Gazidis would be out of a job if Kroenke stopped believing and left.

But what about in private? Has Wenger come to terms wiht the new reality and begun to recognise that changes are needed in his management style? Now we can’t afford top-quality players and now the ones that we’ve nurtured are being sold to our rivals we can’t play the old, free-flowing way. We need to be more effective defensively and more tactical. I get the impression Wenger is resistant to change. I don’t think he could bear to admit even to himself that Cesc, Nasri and Clichy were going. Had he done so immediately and rethought his purchasing policy and on-the-pitch tactics accordingly we might not now be in such a confused-looking mess. But he’s slow to adapt, is Wenger, and reluctant to give up any power. Hence his strained relationship with Bould and his increasingly haggard appearance.

  14. “Staying positive”
Sturridge to Liverpool, Ba to Chelsea, City and United full of strikers, Walcott stays??? I would like that.
    Or PSG in the summer?

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  15. We got a good squad but the biggest problem is the lack of investment, we can’t rotate properly. Our best players looks exhausted very often. Wenger really need to bring 2 or 3 players in to the squad.

A defensive midfielder would be great, Arteta is doing a great job, but he looks exhausted some matches. I would also like to see a guy like that playing upfront, he is a fantastic player with a lot of quality, and i think he would do better offensively.

A striker/winger would be great to strenghten the squad with. Ba is going to Chelsea, and Huntelaar has signed a new contract at Schalke. David Villa is old and have probably his best days behind him. Adrian Lopez is not better than Podolski or Giroud.

The biggest problem is that we spend money on the second best players, we don’t buy the best players anymore, and they don’t want to come and play for us, because of the salaries. And the quality players we develope are being sent away to the highest petroclub bidder. Cazorla is not a second best player and the same goes for some of our other players as well.

We have a lot of great young players that will be very good players in the future. If we keep these players we will without any doubts be competing for titles in the future. But are they really what we need at the moment? Young players with lack of experience combined with second best players and some good ones as well is not a top4 team in Premier League.

Sell the deadwood as soon as possible and sign a Striker and a DM.

      Rafa Out, again then, eh?

If we had Rafa he would stop all these losses due to costly mistakes.

Of course we’d still lose the matches, but it would be because of too much rotation rather than lack of belief or lack of application.

3rd and 4th place look like it’s any two from five at the moment – 6 points separate 3rd from 7th and, with 17/18 games to go, that is barely anything.

I expect to see West Brom drop away, whether Everton can keep up is pretty much dependent on if they sell Baines/Fellaini in January, so it could just come down to two out of Arsenal, Chelsea and the scum for the last two Champions League spots.
