Poldi: Let’s get ready to rumble

Poldi: Let’s get ready to rumble

Lukas Podolski admits Arsenal’s proclivity for conceding the first goal in games needs to stop if they are to stand any chance of finishing in the top four.

Pinpointing the threat of London rivals Sp*rs and Chelsea, but not mentioning Everton behind whom the Gunners sit in sixth, the German stressed that the Gunners have to hit top form in the coming months having gone two goals behind in three of the last four league games.

“It is a problem,” Podolski is quoted as saying in the Mirror.

“We must start strong from the first minute and score the first goal. In the last weeks that has always been the problem – we must fight and come back.

“Chelsea and Spurs are strong. It is a strong league and we must fight every game.

“We want to finish first, but the difference is too big now. We lost a lot of points in the first half of the Premier League and now the difference is too big.

“We must fight for the Champions League places and this is our focus. We will do it.”

Theo Walcott was similarly bullish when interviewed after the 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday night. Eyeing Saturday’s visit of Tony Pulis’ orc army, the in-form striker said he was hoping for a return to winning ways.

“We’re at home, we’re very strong and we need to pick up three points rather than a point,” he told Arsenal.com.

“If we show the performance from the second half [against Liverpool] then I am sure we will beat them.”

  1. Podolski missed some two games with a calf injury is it?. There’s when I realised how important he is to us. Came back after and our attack vastly improved, contributes defensively and it’s no surprise he hasn’t been carelessly substituted in the past few games. When he speaks about us allowing in early goals he really is onto something here, it’s not everytime we will manage a second half blitz like we have been used to. Sort that defence out mayne.

  7. Really need a great run now. Stoke are poor away from home so a great oppertunity for three points. Hope Nacho can fit straight in.

“Really need a great run now”… didn’t someone on this blog say EXACTLY the same thing back in October, November, and in December?

  8. I believe it would be a good idea for the team to stand in a line before the game and have Mertesacker walk down the line and SLAP every player with those massive hands to get them fired up. Shit if I got slapped by BFG (Big F*@king Giant) I think I would be “ready to rumble” from the opening whistle!

better yet… detain Santos in a cage where he will go 3 days without any food, spread peanut butter on everybody’s cocks before the match, with the understanding that in case we DON’T WIN the match then Wenger will have no choice but to “bring out the GIMP”

  10. Dear team.
Remember that bollocking that Arsene dishes out over half time at every match? You know, the one about handbrakes, getting forward more and not standing around like a bunch of lemons while the opposition runs rings around you?
Try imagining you’ve heard it just before the kickoff.

  11. I really like Pod dont understand why the Germans where on his case. We do need to sort out the defence as Thomas does not look his usual self maybe the pressure of being the captain is to much for him.

    Either way COYG !!!

  12. I get the feeling Poldi already misses Gibbo quite dearly. They have been quite explosive on the left flank in the last few games. No worries Poldi, Nacho is here to keep the onslaught coming…I’ll be damned if this does not feel good, the tell tale says we really have something solid going on. Santos broke our hearts…still seething now…
