Valencia reject Arsenal bid for Guaita

According to, the website which broke the news of Arsenal’s interest in Valencia goalkeeper, Vicente Guaita, the Spanish club have rejected Arsenal’s bid for the player.

They say that a meeting took place yesterday between Valencia officials and Dick Law but – and we know this will shock you, Arsenal’s bid – “did not even come close to the expectations” they had.

As such, Dick Law went back to London, but he did tell them that our interest was not over. Valencia told him the player was not for sale.

Arseblog News has been unable to confirm that Law arrived at the meeting with a cloth bag with the word ‘swag’ written on it, which was filled with peseta coins (especially that one which had the hole in the middle of it).

Either way, it’s another Arsenal bid which has been rejected out of hand by the club we’re trying to business with.

It’s almost as if we’re not very good at this.

    • Eugh indeed.

90 days worth of time to strengthen squad
25 players we’ve rumoured to have made bids for
3 Clubs in the last week or two who have publically rejected our bids
1 (Free) Player we’ve signed this summer

Thumb up 60 Thumb down 2

    • Arsene Wenger OUT.

“we are not afraid to spend” and then this?
you fucking go all the way to spain and present a mediocre bid thats nowhere near his valuation nor anywhere near what they expected. wtf? should have done it on the phone you fucking cunts!
What is wrong?, what is fucking wrong???

Thumb up 65 Thumb down 43

      • The guy who deals with negotiations (badly, but still) went to Spain to try to negotiate. Why is this a bad thing and why should he have done it over the phone? At least in person he could have a translator there, what would have happened on the phone? “Hola…me llamo Dick…tu keeper, señor Guaita….dos euros? Por favor?”

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 4

        • You’d think if he was gonna make a serious offer, with some room for negotiating, then it would be worth the trip. But to just get knocked back and jump straight back on the plane with his tail in between his legs then the phone might have been an option. How very ‘present day Arsenal’

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

    • I don’t know i think its a huge step forward ..
At least they didn’t get angry and ask somebody to “hold them back”.

Thumb up 63 Thumb down 3

    • We are like the village guy whose face is covered with pimples and is being rejected by every lass he approaches. Will he ever get laid? He might start considering going for prostitutes. A step down in class and loyalty but at least he will be getting some action. For fuck’s sake SIGN SOMEBODY Mr. Wenger!!!

Thumb up 39 Thumb down 3

      • In this case we all glad he got rejected as in the long run she would be shit in bed and he would be in the look out again soon after suffering long sleepless nights trying to have good time!!!!.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 2

      • Apparently Barca were turned down when they enquired. I am not sure how recently that was though.

I read it in the London Evening Standard last night.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

    • Why get Begovic when the second fiddle at a crappy Spanish side is available???

C’mon Wenger, get this Guava fellow NOW!

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 2

    • maybe his work was complicated by all the earlier talk about how much money we had and how we were ready to do exciting things

Thumb up 38 Thumb down 1

      • Surely Arsene isn’t so fing stupid to know that this set of players cannot play a whole season without injury, suspensions etc. First game is a kick up the arse if ever we needed one. We have lost shit loads of players of the wage bill and now we are wafer thin in all aspects.

Who is it that sets the amount that we should pay for a player? Arsene, Gazidis, the board, Kronke. Whoever it is they need shooting as they are incompetent and making us a laughing stock.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 1

      • thats the problem that you and most other Arsenal fans don’t seem to grasp. What bothers me about the window isn’t the fact that we haven’t been able to sign players but rather how the market has reacted to FFP. In this current atmosphere where fans, managers, and pundits alike complain and moan about the inflation in football and how the big spenders have come in and just distorted the market for players, it disturbs me that Arsenal are criticized for trying to do the right thing. Cabaye is not worth more than 10mil in fact I would cap him at around 11 or 12, Suarez not worth more than 40, Bender, not worth more than 20mil, and is Bale really worth anywhere near the prices that have been mentioned this summer? that is of course if you go by their actual value as players and not by what other clubs have paid for other players. Arsene Wenger and the board are wary of the current trend in football to overpay for players and keep inflating the market, thats why he was so keen no financial fair play, not just because it could potentially create some parity but more importantly so that it could keep football from going into a tailspin of self-destruction. Its a classic case of good guys finish last this. Arsenal have tried to pay the right price for the players we’ve targeted this summer, its why we didn’t raise our bid for Higuain and its why we’re not going to overpay for players like Cabaye. I would rather we sign the right players and the right price rather than overpay and continue to reiterate this fucked world of money that we call football.

Thumb up 37 Thumb down 9

        • You simply CANNOT go with tht thought process these days..

Its like paying 25% of the ACTUAL PRICE for an apple, INSTEAD of the actual price… because YOU think apples are worth tht much instead of what its actually worth. In the market, due to the inflation, the prices ve increased..

Thumb up 14 Thumb down 8

        • I agree that we shouldn’t spend stupid money. But I believe the reason we are in the current situation (other clubs want more money for their players than they are worth) is that the club failed to plan in advance and left it all too late.

This has happened for so many years and someone needs to get the boot for this. Other clubs know that we are struggling and panicing that’s why we eventually will pay too much money for some mediocre player.

I guarantee you at the end of the day this will make the price tag of Higuain or Gustavo look a bargain.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 1

        • You sound like Arsene “I always said the transfer window should close early.” Well I say players should be cheap, and I say Jennifer Aniston should come and give me a blowjob, and I wish and hope for all these things, while meanwhile in the real world those who play the game reap the rewards. We’re like Frodo and Gandalf at the end of Lord of the Rings as we sail off into another land where we can stay frozen in time as the world moves on around us.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 1

        • Damn right-it’s a fucking arms race. Just saying ‘we don’t like it so we don’t want to engage in it’ isn’t going to work. Animals that don’t evolve more often than not go extinct. I’m not saying we’ll go extinct as a club, but we run a serious risk of being left behind.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

        • if the world of football in a direction of insanity and self-destruction then i’d rather be on the side that’s either trying to stem the tide or won’t take part in it. I’ve always loathed the “welcome to the real world” arguments, they really are quite poor. Just because something is one way doesn’t mean it’s the right way and it has to be followed.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

    • I like to imagine that at this moment in time there are red flashing lights and a siren going off at Highbury House, like on the deck of a submarine as its under attack. Arsene is stood there impassively trying not to look worried while all his staff are frantically running about trying to sort out a transfer. On a large pin board there are photos of our transfer targets similar to the one the FBI have with Mafia family trees on, as each one falls by the wayside a Red Cross is struck through the photo……Higuain gone, Suarez gone, some dodgy Spanish keeper gone. Suddenly Dick Law rings the bells, the office goes silent in anticipation………… “Emile Heskey says he’ll come!!!!!” The place erupts and Arsene calls TGI Fridays, he’s proved them wrong again, tonight will be one hell of a party.

Thumb up 64 Thumb down 0

    • This is starting to remind me of all those people who phone up to ask about things I sell on Gumtree but offer half my asking price and then say”c’mon bruv, let’s do a deal ok?” You can guess what my replies are!

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

      • I can push all that bullshit when I’m actually talking to spuds (why I actually talk to a few I’ll never know) but on the blog are we really going to be that delusional?

For the first time in my 20 years of following the Arsenal their squad is without a doubt better than ours.

Lloris, Paulinho and Bale would waltz into our first 11 and that’s not to mention Vertonghen, Soldado, Holtby, Capoue, Dembele, Sigursson, Friedel, Lennon or Sandro who’d all be welcome additions to our squad.

I’m sure most of our first team could break into their first team or at very least be welcome squad additions but how you ever seen a situation this dire?

This is a sickening state of affairs and however much it pains me to say it; if Wenger doesn’t sort this out I don’t want him at the club anymore. I’d give him one more season with David Dien, or someone capable of working out signings but the purse strings need to be taken away from him because he doesn’t have a fucking clue.

Thumb up 120 Thumb down 18

        • Absolutely – the Spurs squad is getting much stronger whilst ours is currently getting weaker. This can be turned around though with 5 strong signings.

Thumb up 49 Thumb down 3

        • My take on things is that the board have neither the footballing knowledge nor the capacity to get the deals done. It would be easy to blame poor old Dick or Wenger for that matter, but like someone just said, if Dick Law is being sent to sign players with little bargaining power, what can the board realistically expect.

Whoever is orchestrating these negotiations are liable for our failure so far in the market. Wenger’s last comments were “there is a whole team of people involved in bringing transfers in”. This is probably the first comment I ever remember from Wenger deflecting blame… maybe its pressure and he has seriously fucked up, but my belief is he would do what is necessary to get the right players in – especially after last season.

There is a major flaw behind the scenes in how we conduct our transfer business and it has been affecting us on the field for a while now. Whoever is to blame, whatever must be fixed, something must be done.

This is the 1st time I have come to realise that fan pressure is very important. It must be done in an organised way, questions must be asked. BUT, it should never be demonstrated come matchday. Why take it out on the team? On Saturday there was a constant demonstration of frustration, lets try not let that affect the team again.

Thumb up 15 Thumb down 3

        • fredflintstein, you make a good point. We could easily change things with 5 signings. The problem is that we have so little time to make those signings in.

With £155M in the bank, as was reported yesterday, we could make five £31M signings. It won’t happen though. I’ll be surprised if we get 2 players now.

Dick Law out, David Dein back in! Let’s sort this shit situation out!

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 2

    • They have never won the Premiere league.
Point that out the next time ..
      Ignore all their arguments

And if they persist point out the fact that they most likely never ever will win the premiere league.
then directly stick your fingers in your ears and go “lalalalalalalalalalala” because they most likely will counter with the same phrase about our club and one really cant argue with that.

Thumb up 57 Thumb down 2

      • They’ve won a champions league and two domestic cups since we last raised a glass. Careful what you say about Liverpool and Spurs, they could easily give us a pasting this year. Spurs could turn out a cracking team.

You want someone to direct your anger at… try the smug Frenchman at the Emirates

Thumb up 40 Thumb down 30

    • i see your Liverpool Fan and raise you a Notts County Fan……………..I (pardon my language) shit you not!

Thumb up 21 Thumb down 0

  1. This does make me laugh that he has to come back to the UK and cant actually negotiate on out behalf while he is there.

Thumb up 42 Thumb down 0

    • We have really become the ridicule, how long can this go on….? No more class that we used to boast of.
We have simply become the worst managed club and so unprepared for the season which will impact our performances in a very negative way. We don’t look ready for the business, and it will be a miracle if we do qualify for the real champions league this season.
Spurs will most likely overtake us this season, at last.
“WHAT ARE THEY REALLY SMOKING” at the Emirates glass house? Anyone has a clue?

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 2

    • But why did we not go with a back up plan?
Surely Dick could bargan on price without having to go back and ask permission for an extra penny to seal the deal

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 0

  2. Why we haven’t attempted to go for Begovic is beyond me, he seems to fit the profile, experienced, good keeper, plays in the premier league. With regards to the bidding process, how we can be so wasteful this close to the end of the window is ridiculous. Bids to test the water should’ve been made in June, not 11 days before the window shuts. Looking at it, we need 5 just make up the numbers in my opinion, the only issue I have is the level of quality we are looking at. C’mon guys, sort this mess out.

Thumb up 40 Thumb down 0

  3. I will save my angst for when I know this is true. The press know this stuff passes is off and a lot of it seems made up. Not quite meh but meh-like

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 2

  4. I wonder if the people who run this club are all masochistic – deriving pleasure from continued rejection.

It’s the only plausible explanation I can think off.

Thumb up 26 Thumb down 0

    • If things continue on the way they are at the moment there will be a world of rejection that will keep the combined masochistic desires fulfilled for a few years to come with some to spare

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  5. Why are we wasting time on mediocre players? We need an experienced goalkeeper, not another Mannone (no offence to him. He was never good enough for Arsenal)

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 0

    • Maybe because the experienced goalkeepers are not available? or too expensive? or more likely do not want to play for Arsenal? Just because there are quality players available, don’t assume they all want to join and play for Arsenal.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 1

      • Why the fuck is no one talking about Cesar?!? Have I missed something?!? Pretty sure he’s available for close to nothing too….. FOR FUCKS SAKE WENGER!

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  6. Psst! All eyes and support on players in Turkey.

I don’t understand why we want to buy him in the first place. He’s 27, he will kill Szczesny.

Throwing ‘derisory'(yes, I said it) bids at clubs to test their desire for money is so old school unless you are Anzhi.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 5

  7. Wenger and dick are in cahoots to destroy Arsenal football club from within. It seems like they hate the fans and are doing this on purpose

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 29

  8. This is a bit of a radical idea, why don’t we pay the asking price. Stupid me thought we were serious about mounting a challenge for third place this season

Thumb up 30 Thumb down 5

  9. Gazidis’s boast about our new found financial firepower inspired the price of all our targets by 50 percent.

You can’t tell everyone how much cash you have and expect sellers not to ask for more.

    Absolute incompetence.

Thumb up 72 Thumb down 0

    • BINGO !

But then again, hasn’t the questions been asked before, and vehemently, in the past about why haven’t we got any money to spend in previous summers.

I think it was an attempt to quell any dissenters, who would know that our money pot would have to have increased this summer.

Still, there’s no reason why actions could have spoken louder than words by now. I think the club just felt iwould be good PR towards the fanbase.

I hope to get invited to Ivan’s next poker night, I am an awful player . . . honest.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  10. I know this will most probably get thumbed down to death but for the first time in my life I’ll actually openly admit that spu*s squad is miles better than ours! Every one of the summer signings they made would of improved our squad! Admitting this is more disheartening than anything else happening to my team! Thumb down all u like but deep down i think all us gooners know its true and it gets me down!

Thumb up 112 Thumb down 21

    • i dont get arsenal fans. arsene will spend. he will and i know it.
and screw sp*rs signings. i rather podolski upfront than soldado. and there is only one cazorla, ramsey, wilshere, arteta, rosicky in epl duh.
without them darn signings, i still think we can piss into first four.
i still believe we can get suarez lol. the qualms is the DM CB and GK.
i love wenger, such a boss.
it is wise to spend money wisely folks and I believe gazidis and arsene will keep their promises and stun this overwhelming amount of hate at arsenal.
Everyone is forever jealous we did it. #invincibles

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 28

      • Listen i love Wenger too! He is all i have known as far as Arsenal managers go. But we cant live on past glory’s! YES the unbeaten season remains an amazing memory but that’s all it is, a memory. I love your optimism regarding Suarez and pissing into the top 4 but without being rude….. Get real!

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 2

        • suarez or not, the lads can get first four. the problem now i think is we really CAN afford suarez. rodgers especially knows this.
we must beat fernabche good today as well. i think this as well has subjectively scuppered our business i think in terms of the calibre of players the club are willing to spend on NOT attract. i dont think we have a problem attracting top top players, coz money does it all in football nowadays(RVP,Suarez and Bale already said so). CL football although puts us on par with the top clubs.
we do need to sign. it obvious even to a blind deaf and dumb least of all wenger.
i really admire how we’ve done business so far. ytf would the club bid a quid more than their evaluation of a player, that isnt how business works.
The stranger thing for me is, we never really direly needed higuain(i love arseblog). I really do believe giroud is better suited for the epl he only just needs to find the right pair of shoes. call me deluded or whatever.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 5

        • and point of correction. #invincibles is not just buat a memory. it is also truly a phenomena.
it will only be completely memory and history after the record is well broken.
My regret this transfer was us not getting the columbian kid(perez). he seemed very decent and had a fight in him. which is the only reason i mind suarez besides his shite. The fight in the dog.
Arsene sees talent quicker than most. He also i think has a strict starting line up in his head and doesnt have the heart to screw players careers over on the bench(part of his weakness i think).
i could be talking rubbish, but at least, screw all the obscurities, media interpretations and all the negative sentiments from some fans. Im just hungry for football and cant wait to watch my lads coz I really do believe in every single one of them! especially carl jenkinson lol

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 3

    • Why would you get thumbed down to death for stating an obvious fact that the rest of us have been admitting freely for the past few weeks?

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 2

    • we get the same “THIS IS OUR YEAR ” nonsense every f@cking season from spurs now, give it up. Bale absolutely carried them last year when he goes its the heart and soul ripped from their team, and although i agree paulinho and capoue look like tidy signings in soldado they’ve spunked 28m on the spanish darren bent. ONly hit more than 20 league goals once in his entire career, no top team would go near him.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 3

      • Yes bale carried them last year but Villas-boas noticed that and splashed the cash this window! We were terrible last season until the last few months and the management did nothing. And comparing soldado to bent is bollocks, He would of improved our squad no doubt about it! He is a 15 to 20 goal striker who although wouldn’t of been my first choice signing i wouldn’t of kicked him out of the bed so to speak! Spu*s are showing much more ambition than us and it kills me. I was like “Nigerian gooner” and yourself “P.N.R.F” a couple of seasons ago (full of blind faith and optimism) but arsenal fans have been put the mill far too many times now. Look at the players who have come England this summer and ask yourself how many would you have at arsenal? Wanyama and osvaldo went to SOUTHAMPTON!!!!! They would of been good signings! Cardiff have spent more than us for fuck sake. I don’t mean to dampen anyone’s spirits and until a couple of weeks ago i was the first to defend Wenger but we as fans and the amount of money we spend to watch them play home AND away deserve a HELL of alot better than this absolute SHIT they are serving us up at the minute. Fans like you are just bending over and taking it. And before anyone thinks I’m having a pop at the players, I’m not, not one bit do i blame them. Wake up and smell the coffee. Something NEEDS to change before we become liverpool

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 3

  11. don’t see why wenger doesn’t go for Casillas a quality goal, keeper better then that joke arsenal got at the moment. and plus arsenal are crying out for a defensive midfielder as well just hope they sort something out before the transfer finishes. Otherwise you got that smaller north London team getting champions league football this year.

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 3

  12. Is there a problem with Cesar? It’s as if we are trying to make matters more difficult for us.
AW said “Less than 2 weeks is still a long time…”. Someone please tell me he’s kidding. The club management has made a laughing stock of the club and it’s fans.
    Absolutely humiliating!

Thumb up 26 Thumb down 3

    • View Cesar as our Bendtner!

The problem is he wants to get paid what he was at QPR and no club is willing to pay his salary. QPR is dumping
him for 3mil but the salary demand have killed all transfers.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 1

    • True, but for the last two lines, there.

” No one can make you feel inferior/humiliate you without your consent ” – Eleanor Roosevelt

A mate of mine is bewildered why £7-8m seems too much to pay for Cesar, other than it will stomp all over our current number 1 between the sticks.
My mate doesn’t particularly rate Chesney, in any case. Personally I think the competition and even the mentoring would do him good.

I think with it being World Cup season, it complicates the issue in terms of players being doubly aware of playing time and it’s impact on morale. Maybe I am over-thinking it . . .

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

    • Who would love to see Real just walk away from Bale and screw them with a 150 mil bill for transfers. Levy would about crap himself.

Second, hasn’t anyone else noticed that AVB has almost completely replaced the team in the last 2 years. So he really believes replacing all these players is going to pay dividends this year? He’s got to be nuts.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

  13. I’ve decided to go shopping Dick Law style.

I spent an hour an a half in Tesco filling my cart with pretty much all of their ‘Tesco’s Finest’ range. I got to the till and as it rung through I noticed the price. It came to £98.46. I stared into my wallet, bulging full of £50 notes. I turned to the check out girl; “I’ll give you £22.80, but have you got change for a £50?”

    Classic Dick.

Thumb up 67 Thumb down 1

  14. I think I know what’s happening. The FA have their fingers everywhere, starting with the ref last weekend, and they must also pay every single club in the world so they would all say “feck off Dick”.
Another theory is that Dick was a bit of a dick in his previous life and now he gets punished for it, starting with his name from his parents when he was born.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 0

  15. All a smoke screen….At the end of this window we will have signed Casillas,Sakho,Pogba and Benzema(when Madrid announce Bale). Somebody told me… a dream like…..

Thumb up 31 Thumb down 0

  16. There’s no point getting angry or mad at forums such as this!
We need to do more to show our discontent, we need to support the players cos its got nothing to do with them.

Wenger, Gazidis,& Kronke need to know that this is unacceptable, but other than boycotting matches, i have no idea what else to do 🙁

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 1

    • Yes the more discontent the better… Lets burn effigies of the manager and the board and players we dislike.
That will help attract the talented footballers to the club.

      Y’all …
show your support for the club and make it a place that players wanna be at.
To paraphrase some European football journalist….
Supporting arsenal is like being in an echo chamber … Where everyone is screaming.
If that sounds like hell then thats what it is.

      Where has that ever worked….

Start cheering, stop thinking that arsenal owe you something… 99% of us don’t go to the emirates or buy the gear..
So when you get a chance do something or the club … Support it.

Then the media will stop its relentless pursuit for wengers head..
A head they have been after for 16 years..

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 20

      • Are you for real?!?!
You cant tell me you’re happy that we havent strengthened!!
Arsenal owe us a team that can compete.
Thats what we pay for and what we deserve and demand.
If you’re happy with mediocrity, then you’re on your own mate

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 9

        • You dont have to write a hundred posts on a forum saying how pissed off you are to be pissed off!

Ask all of the people that have been writing the same thing daily since June if it has helped in our quest for signings.

What will actually help the team is people cheering them, not booing them because the management are having “issues”

He has a point you know…..

Thumb up 18 Thumb down 6

        • Thats it…

i am not happy that we havent strenghtened… i dare say that Arsene isn’t happy.
i dare say that Dick Law and Ivan Gazidas arent…
It must be torturous to sit at negotiating tables and know that the guy across the table has your nuts in his hands because the bedrock of a club is the fan and their foundation is crumbling..
You can criticise me but the arsenal fans are definitely influencing the process.

We crucified brazilians denilson and santos and we yet expect their mates gustavo and bernard to come in an take a punt at being the next deadwood hounded out of the club.

We have Piers Morgan slating arsenal several times A DAY on twitter… Still referring to RVP as if we could have kept him or extended his contract…
Maybe RVP would have stayed if we didnt constantly tell him and the world how much he owed us…

If Arsenal are important to you the what the feck are you all doing slamming EVERYTHING they do?

Thumb up 23 Thumb down 8

        • I am also pissed, its no fun seeing the team I love in this apparent mess. But negativity breeds negativity. If you are an Arsenal player, and you hear your own fans have no faith in you because you didnt cost enough, do you think it makes you play better?

It has been a cliche down the ages that the crowd is “the twelfth man”, an essential part of the team. Would you then, as part of the team, slide tackle Jack, mashing his ankle?

Wait until the players have left the pitch, THEN BOO!!! Let the team know that despite the incompetent, bordering on negligent muppetts upstairs, we love and support them. Then let the people who deserve vitriol kop it!

Thumb up 17 Thumb down 2

      • Bloody hell Double 98, if we were all like you then it would be like the Stepford wives at The Grove, we’d all be waving a flag and smiling, Gazidis would watch us and think what a bunch of mindless idiots.
Accepting the status quo politely has done nothing positive for the last 3-4 years. I’m not prepared to stick my head up my arse and pretend everything is hunky dory in the deluded hope that that will persuade player X to come to the club. I’ve also found doing something is generally better than doing nothing. Fortune favours the brave, Who dares wins not who dares sits on their backside and hopes things will turn out alright. From your later posts it seems you don’t go to games, fine, no problem, im sure you love the club as much as someone who goes home and away, but i think it is very rich of you to cast judgement on those of us who spend small fortunes and a large amount of time going. That money has to be earnt, and while no one expects high prices to mean guaranteed success, it’s not unreasonable to expect the club and manager to show ambition, otherwise why do the club exist?

        Nothing ever changed without protest.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 1

        • Protest away – but slating player after player (and i could name 20) is not the way to attract players to the club.

Protest Kroenke, Gazidas, Law, Chips but get behind Arsene and the good guys

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 3

        • I agree with you in so much as booing players or singling out individuals is not on, but the outpouring on Saturday felt like a release of built up frustration. I couldn’t bring myself to join in because as I looked at Arsene I felt sad that it had come to this.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

        • I was at the game on Saturday, I felt aggrieved by what I saw on the day and by how the club is clearly going through some internal meltdown. So I thought to myself why not stage a sit in? I’d cheered the team on, hurled abuse at the ref and the opposing team and their stupid fans throughout the game.
A sit in seemed the only way to avoid hurting the players feelings and a good way to show the people behind the scenes that we the fans care about whats happening and want something done, but I was alone.
I’m no season ticket holder but I get up to the ground as often as I can.
This situation needs protest but avoid upsetting the players.
Those of you that go regularly, sit in after the game, in numbers the stewards can do nothing, and somebody has to listen.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

    • Have a sit in instead at the end of the next home game. That way you support the players for 90+ minutes, and still get the point across.

‘its OUR club, and we are not moving…’

Thumb up 15 Thumb down 0

      • Great plan and relatively easier to facilitate than anything else. Bring some snacks and a blanket. Just the thought of having to keep the lights on would make them pay attention. And the stewards would have to go home sooner or later.

Support the players wholeheartedly and make a huge statement to the board in a safe, non-self-detrimental way.

They’ll quickly get the message. Genius.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

  17. I don’t even see why this guy is being targeted? Looking at his stats he seems injury prone and relatively inexperienced compared to other options we have been linked to?

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 0

  18. Love to see some of you try to buy players… sounds like we should offer 100mill first then negotiate afterwards regardless of the player.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 11

    • You’re making excuses, how come other clubs are able to wrap up transfers quickly but we cant?!
For example we offered Newcastle £10M for Cabaye, put yourself in Newcastle’s position, would you sell Cabaye for £10M?!?

That’s like a club offering us £15M for Walcott, who in their right mind would sanction that deal?!?!

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 3

      • There is no clear market value for players, in the case of Cabaye – Arsenal deliberately offered 10 million which is a realistic market value for a platyer bought for 4 million two years ago – Arsenal expected the bid to be rejected and will go back with a 13 million one.
We are however now at the stage of the transfer window were clubs will ask what they want for players, in the full knowledge that guys like Wenger are on their trolley dash. Still though I can slightly understand his position – for example S*urs must be off their heads to pay 30 million for Willian, who’s nothing more than an average wide player. However when you look at rcent buys like Capoue, Dembèlè and Lloris, you have to ask why Wenger didn’t think those excellent acqusitions at the other end of the Seven Sisters road weren’t “Arsenal standard”.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

  19. We are turning into a fucking joke now….

    Bender – Failed bid
    Vicente Guaita – Failed bid
    Cabaye – Failed bid
    Saurez – Numerous failed bids
Higuian – Well, that was just a total fucking mess really!

Thumb up 18 Thumb down 3

  20. What a fucking joke. Ill bet come september 2nd we will get “their were no exceptional super quality players available better than the squad we have” routine. No wenger there were no “super exceptional players” who are willing to be given to arsenal as a donation rather than you know.. spending the fucking money!

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 1

    • I sincerely hope not, just for the simple fact that we dont have enough players to cope with all the games we have.

This is also Arsene’s last chance to show that he’s still capable and unfortunately thus far, he’s failing woefully!

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 2

    • Wenger is just an arrogant fugster who is determined to prove to the footballing world that he can win the title without spending a bean. Well Wenger – you won’t.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 1

  21. that’s our Dick over and out with nowt. something’s never change.
why don’t wenger just go out and negotiate himself he’s meant to be a much respected coach across the world of football, didn’t this transfer malarky get done over phone and fax why did Dick need to fly out was he gona conduct a medical?

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  22. Now, we may be pre empting what is sompy the first round of talks. Having said that the fact that he flew home speaks volumes. Is it the case that the current people we have in place negotiating these deals are simply crap at the job. Other clubs seem to be able to pay what is needed for the player they are after. Why cant we?

But on the other side are news outlets now reporting every rejected bid we put in for a player simply because right now it is news? Bids get rejected all the time and the buying club in most cases up their bid. This is the way the game has always been played and in this respect arsenal are no different.

We may return with another bid….????? But like I said, the fact that mr law flew home (in my opinion) is telling.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 0

  23. Beyond stupid to go after a second choice keeper in Valencia when you have money to burn and Begovic available for the right price.
After all the work to get rid of the deadwood we are looking to add more. What’s the plan? Do we have one? Is Guati to be nr 1 or will he be back up to Szsc or Fab? Are they supposed to fight for the spot? To me they are all similar in quality and it makes no sense to add quantity but not the extra quality.
Wenger is crap at keepers, he doesn’t seem to rate their importance to a team and he sure as hell don’t know how they should be coached in training. None of the keepers we have improves. With Scsz, Fab and possibly Guati we won’t win anything. None of them are good enough and certainly not “World class”.
Wenger has gone into panic overdrive mode and I hate it. He is not fit enough to lead this club forward.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 3

  24. Arsenal’s £50,000,006 bid for barcelonas LIONEL MESSI has been rejected “OUT OF LEG” but wenger is prepared to go back with an improved offer of £50,000,011.

Thumb up 21 Thumb down 0

  26. I really don’t understand Arsenal’s interest in Vicente Guaita other than he was recently linked to Barcelona as a replacement for Valdes who has since u-turned on his transfer request.
He hasn’t played a prolific amount of games and here in Spain he is not that highly regarded. He reminds me of Almunia who can be David Seamen one minute and simply Jism the next.
Don’t know what sort of money we’re talking for him but Asmir Begović at 15 million would be the more sound investment in my opinion.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

  27. I begin to believe that Arsenal officials (especially Wenger) are not from this planet. They act as if they are living in 19century, their parsimony knocked us out Gustavo, Higuain and others like mata in past summers. I think we need to act fast to silence our ‘noisy neighbour’ that has gone ‘buying-crazy’ just to be ahead of Arsenal come May 2014. Wenger please show your hand

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

  28. and we know this will
shock you, Arsenal’s bid – “did not even
come close to the expectations” No blogs, it did not shock me. you see these clubs know Arsenal has money and really needs players. Its an intentional act to squeeze as much money from the Arsenal as they can. Now Gizadis should learn never to brag to the world that we have the money.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 2

    • Oh Dick Law oh Dick Law now you’ve broke the bloody last straw.
We need some players it’s not a lot but what have we done absolute squat.
So hurry up and get them in dont you see our team is so thin.

  31. Spurs are spending like they have just won the lottery, because they have! It’s money they never realistically thought they would get – Bale £90m (wow).

While Arsenal are spending(or not) money they have scrimped and saved for. They have an invested interest in it, a bond if you will, pride they have managed to put the club in such a healthly position (financially).

The trouble is now they seem scared to ‘waste’ it because we might not get into this cash rich position ever again, but this trepidation is paralysing the club.

Someone has got to grow some balls and go for it, or bring in someone from outside the club as “Football/purchasing director” who hasn’t got the same attachment to the pot of gold!

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

  36. Can we just make some proper bids for some proper fucking players. Is that too much to ask? Does anyone actually expect to be amazed by any fantastic signings? I bet my vital organs for Arsenal’s entire cash reserves that we won’t. Signing this gimp and Yohan Kebab don’t count.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

  37. We’re a fucking laughing stock at the moment. Everyone is laughing at us, but what hurts most is that the cunts are being prolific at signing people. More than efficient at bringing in great talent. Theyve just signed Willian as well. What the fuck is going on this is so so embarrassing. I cant defend the club anymore is a disgrace

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 2

  38. would be interesting to see if wenger has received any bonuses these last few years and if it is tied to a healthy operating profit.

Come on Wenger, for fuck sake, accept that we have been miserable and mismanaged the summer transfer window, and you are atleast ready to make some amends. Just, open you mind for 1 sec, and see the problems a 15 year old Lawn Tennis supporter can also see.

Buy something mate, we won’t be able to play even till december, all the games.

Spend some fucking money, its the club’s, nobody’s asking you for your euro.

And as soon as the window closes, fire this dick law, and get some sporting director.

Your way is giving us nothing.

  41. I’m beginning to sense that Mr. Henry Liverpool co owner was right to say, he was wondering what Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis smoke. Honestly, anybody that behaves the way they do, must be smoking something. Julio Cesar is a world class keeper, Brazilian first choice, wanted to play for Arsernal, very cheap to buy. Why didnt they buy him? Bcos every1 said, Wenger buy him? What I notice with that weed smoker is that any player people wish and clamour that he buys, he wil refuse to buy that player bcos his myopic mentality wil tel him that people should nt tel him what to do bcos he is the wisest man on earth.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

    • What is the market value?

Hes not a bleedin egg –

the “market” is the negotiation table where arsenal have one valuation and valencia have another or potentially just an aspiration to extract as much out of arsenal.

So should arsenal ask them to name their price and just pay that?

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 2

  43. Wenger has promised only top top quality. We need a world class Striker, world class DM a top class CB and a decent GK. The critical factor is the price of the striker. 25-30 mill and we can afford world class DM and CB. If we pay 40 mill for the striker then its top class DM but cheap CB. So my pick is 40 mill striker, Suarez. 20 DM Pogba and 10 mill CB Williams. 5mill GK. An extra ten mill for Cabaye because Wenger knows we have a potential slew of injuries to our AM eg OX, Wilshere, Podolski Rosicky and Arteta. 85 mill. I can live with those signings and the fee. Now to beat Fenerbahce and then clean out Fulham Saturday 🙂

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  44. The frustration lies in the fact that we did not get our transfers done early when there were good enough players available. Its not only about paying the market price for a player and throwing a butt load of cash at the selling team. The spuds seem to be doing it at the moment. It may or may not work but what is important is strengthening the squad which they have. We have regressed. We have let so many viable targets move to lesser teams. Gustavo,Capoue,Villa,Higuain,Ceasar,Paulinho do you think we would have lost anything by signing these players? Some of them may not be world class but atleast they would have improved our squad immensely. And that’s were the frustration lies. Now we are trolley dashing for the likes of Guaita who I believe is not good enough for us. Why is that any random club can gazump us for a signing yet we never seem able to?

There are not a lot of great players available and even if they were, We would have to pay a huge amount since according to Ivan we are full! Incompetence of the highest order. I just hope things do not get much worse than this. Just hope that we can salvage something of this God awful summer.

You say you saw him disembarking? where were you parked?

We really are a laughing stock. But hey that video of those spurs fans singing that’s doing the rounds will take some beating.
Just when you think we can’t get any worse along come spurs with a classic that will haunt them.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  49. Wenger says the team he has is full of top, top quality……here is a simple honest test….take united, city, and chelsea….which of our first eleven would be guaranteed a starting place in their first eleven….now reverse it….pick a starting 11 out of those 3 teams….how many of our first 11 would be on your team…….Sanga…now do the same with Liverpool and Everton…here we fair better…but I hate to say this, if we do the same with the spuds after their summer spending we will struggle. This shows us the very real task at hand…..we are a top, top, class goalkeeper , centre half, defensive midfielder , 25 goal a season striker, and right sided winger away from seriously competing. I don’t think Wenger will see it as such, but I think most of us fans see it that way…..fingers crossed for tonight.

  50. I know we need some Experience in the squad but I’m not sure trying to sign someone just because they’ve got it written on their shirt is enough.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  51. Oh fuck me. I always thought that dick law was some fictional character made up by arseblog who just happens to be in charge of transfers at arsenal and is completely incompetent at his job. I never knew he was an actual person. This explains so much

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 0

    • First off, sorry you had to find out. Shit would have been funnier as they were.

Secondly, welcome to the club. Where his incompetence is painfully funny.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  52. The seasons have started all over europe. Who wants to sell a top player woth no time to replace? Unless they wanted rid anyway, or you pay way over the odds. Which wenger won’t do. I have a feeling this window is effectively over for us. We might waste £14m on cabaye as he wants out. Thats it.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  53. No one is gonna sell a player for £10m to a club that goes around the world bragging they have £70m firepower to spend in the transfer market!

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  54. I still think that any ‘top top qualitee’ player (acknowledgements to Aresene Wenger) would not want to join our club having seen what a joke it has become.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 1

  55. It would appear that no ground work is done in the transfer dealings we get into, we apparently send our team out to Spain and have a bid rejected outright, why bother flying surely this can be done over the phone and we start the bidding process this way?

This is not a crazy idea at all, but if we are really interested and the selling club says we will not go below €8M why not just bid the €8M? A players worth is based on two things:

    1. The selling clubs valuation
    2. How badly we want the player

I’m not sure we have thought about either of the above points all summer. We will struggle this season for top 4 if no quality additions are made, make no mistake about it, we have no backup we can rely on for a season of football.

Spurs have bought well and are still adding players, sure they look like they will lose Bale but the players they are bringing in show they are intent on challenging even without him, that is the kind of leadership we are lacking..sell a quality player and then replace him with one or two additions..

The club needs a shake up from the top, who would be opposed to Ushmanov taking control now? Not me.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 0

  56. It’s a bit like Fight Club.

The first rule about the summer transfer window is you don’t believe a word of what you read or hear until some new player’s standing next to the manager holding up an Arsenal shirt.

The second rule about the summer transfer window is you don’t believe a word of what you read or hear until some new player’s standing next to the manager holding up an Arsenal shirt.

… and so on. But human nature has other instincts.

All this talk about panic is bollocks. Before Saturday’s match the media was full of potential signings, sightings, airport scurryings, but then the narrative was ‘why can’t AFC spend some money’.

Now the media is still making up pages of potential signings, sightings, airport scurryings, but now the narrative is ‘Wenger is panic buying’.

The same nothing is still happening. Or the same something is still plodding on at la vitesse d’un escargot. But a highly gullible section of the AFC fanbase believes we’re now in panic mode. ‘It’s happened before. It’s happening now.’ Plus, there’s no smoke without fire (even though we’ve invented the word ‘smouldering’ just for that very circumstance.)

Do I believe Arsene Wenger is doing anything differently post Saturday’s result? Really? Probably not. Yet the media is happy to waft the ‘panic’ word because it sells stuff. And even though most of us have learned not to take our manager at face value, far too many still haven’t learned the same lesson of the media.

Is a possible rejection of any possible offer we may or may not have made significant and in what way so? Probably not. But I’ll still be coming back to Arseblog to see if it is. Rephrase. I’ll only be coming back to Arseblog to see if it is.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 1

  57. Dick sucks!

In all seriousness, I am not surprised if this is true as it sounds very ‘Arsenalistic’; but a part of me thinks maybe this story is made up by a paper wanting to poke fun at us. They broke the story, Dick Law flew to Spain, our bid was rejected, he flew back to England, we maintain interest but Valencia say Guaita is not for sale to us….all in what, a 24-hour span? Too tidy and convenient to be true….but it wouldn’t be the first time the unbelievable came true during this Arsenal transfer season.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  58. Why bother to have a meeting with “Dick” Law if the player is not for sale??
Or is he no longer for sale because of our “insulting” offer?

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  59. “Do you think Dick will bring Arsene back a T-Shirt “My top negotiator went to Valencia – and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt”?

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

  60. How I wish I could be a fly on the wall just to witness any manager’s reaction at this stage when the phone rings….picks it up….and the sporting director utters,

“Arsenal would like to table a formal bid for player xyz.”

    That would be rich.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  61. I don’t even know who this guy is and all the blogs are quoting figures around £17 million for him? Maybe I’ve been living under a rock or something but that just sounds crazy. That’s a fucking lot of money for a goalkeeper.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  62. Maybe this is a elaborate ploy to motivate szczesney for tonights game a bit risky once he sees dick law’s name he’ll know his job is safe

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  63. This is just ridiculous. The most frustrating club in the world, wenger continues to tell us we are in the market and a lot will happen but we continue to make shitty bids. This is the first time I have ever been so embarrassed to Support Arsenal, normally our problems can be fixed to an extent like how we manage to grab fourth spot but this time I feel that unless something miraculous happens, we are well and truly fucked. I am so close to having zero hope that we can dig our way out of this whole. Sad times to be a gooner

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 1

  64. When Dick Law was promoted in 2009 he had previously been actively engaged in our central/south american scouting team.

The best players we had signed from that region at that point were Carlos Vela and Denilson.

This is the man Wenger and Gazidis promoted.

So don’t just blame Dick Law for his incompetence. Its not his fault he’s a fish out of water. Only a fool would have given Dick the promotion in the first place.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

    • Yes, but you’re forgetting something: Denilson left us because he was “a winner” and he wanted trophies.
We just weren’t good enough for him.

As for Vela: find me one player with that chip to goals ratio in the world. Go on, I dare you.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  65. This has just become a joke now. Why doesn’t the Board just relieve Wenger of the negotiations of contracts? He should just tell Dick Law who he wants and then leave him to sort out the numbers. That’s how it worked when David Dein was at the club.

Its so sad to watch Wenger deteriorate from the best manager in the world ten years ago, into this sad, stubborn deluded senile old fool. Under Wengerlogic the only good deal is for a mediocre player on a free or cut-price giveaway. The man is fucking mad.

We need EIGHT quality players before the transfer window shuts. Or we’re fucked.

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 2

  66. My Mrs asked me to go to the shop for her last night to buy a red pepper. Just one red pepper. So i took some change from her purse thinking £1.50 would be enough for a solitary pepper surely? I got to the shop only to find that there were no single red peppers left on sale.

Now had I gone to the shop earlier in the day I would have been able to get a solitary pepper for 95p. But as I didn’t go till gone 8pm and the shop closed at 9pm all that remained were bags of multiple peppers, which were of course much more expensive than a single pepper, and more than the £1.50 i took with me.

If I had the foresight I would have assumed they might have ran out by this time of day and I would have taken extra “just in case” money with me to buy a multi pack so that my darling lady could have the red pepper she so greatly wanted. In the end I came back empty handed and my other half had to take a red pepper-less salad to work today. She was not happy as her lunch was nice but it just lacked that extra taste to make it completely enjoyable.

There is a lesson to be learnt from my mistake, Arsene take note.

    • the lesson learned is that you shoulda gone to Subway, a meatball marinara kicks the arse out of a red pepper salad, and you already saved £1.50 on your pepper, thats half the cash.

glad to help, I’m here all week 🙂

      • But I knew what I wanted to eat and how much it should have cost. There’s no way i’m paying more than that. i’d just get to subway via private jet, ask to buy a sub for £1.50, get told “no, they’re at least £3” and then walk out and fly home again. Still empty handed.

  67. When we beat fenerbahce and qualify for the champions league season arsen will go with 50 mil bid for suarez and liverpool will accept it the argue with suarez that if champions league bid for him they will let him leave but I know liverpool is all going about that arsenal are not yet in the champions legaue so we will see and I know it’s all quiet in suarez front because of that I expecting after 28th of august suarez will dominate till 2nd September when he will sign for us, I know nobody will agree with me but just wait and see.

  68. FFS if there really is a 70 million pound warchest can we use it all in one go on Iker Casillas please.

If we don’t conceded any goals we have a chance to be ‘invincible’ in the EPL again,, as per my username.

    Oh wait… bugger…

  70. Just saw that slaphead Dharmesh Sheth reporting on Sky that Valencia are willing to let Guaita go if he puts in a transfer request. They want 25 MILLION for him!!! (Don’t know if that’s £ or €)

ffs, what are they smoking in Valencia??
I thought the days of the Spanish pirates were over.

  71. I can just see it now. September 2nd 10.59pm. Jim White is sat behind the Sky Sports News desk looking excited. “At last!” he exclaims, “Arsenal have finally made a move in this transfer window with not a moment to spare. They have broken their transfer record with the £20 million signing of Gareth Barry from Manchester City.” It’s been foretold so it must come true, eh Arsene?

  72. Why the hell is he even interested in a keeper?? Sure schezny ain’t great but we need a dm and a striker rather..

  73. Why did Mr Dick have to fly back to London, couldn’t he have booked into a hotel and used such modern gizmo’s as telephones and email and continued negotiating, or maybe not he’d have only got lost. I bet they sent him with the biggest ball of fucking string you’ve ever seen with one end tied to Ivan’s chair leg.

  74. I don’t think this is his top priority.

Rather it is an opportunity buy.

In terms of priority, Striker and DM rank first with CBack next. Keeper can wait till next summer if need be. Wide mid/Creative is a ‘good to have’ but also not quite up there on the list.

Considering others are interested in this fellow’s signature, highly doubt we will get him.

  75. our tit’s in the wringer and clubs know it… they’re going to charge famine rates for shit just to see us struggle and go down… it’s considered economic battle tactic… our brain trust should have figured that waiting until the first loss and the final three , nay, two weeks of the transfer window would not be wisest…

  76. What does “Top,Top,Top Quality mean”…..we lost a game, and now look everyone is looking like a TTT player.
Was Cabaye not a good player until last week? Now suddenly we bid for him and Wenger says we are Working 24×7. I wish the medical team works 24×7, since we have long injury history.

Wenger if you would have opened your Top layer properly, we would have signed at least a average player by now

  77. I think what is really upsetting is that when other teams want to buy our first team players, we just bend over. Remember just how easily Song went to that Spanish team last year. But when we want to buy we just get shunted about.

  78. how did wenger get to this despicable state? from raising an invincible winning team to making top four finish your priority?

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 1

  79. First thing I can’t believe I’m seeing people defend Wenger still. I find it incredulous to believe that people are changing their mind on him after screaming for blood at the weekend. I realise its only a few of the old brigade returning to form but still.

Lastly and importantly, has anybody considered there may be less honest reasons other than we’re shit at negotiating as to why were tabling insulting offers one after the other and so publicly as well.

One may say we don’t want to buy people…
