Schalke quick to deny Fabianski interest

Well that didn’t last long. Two days in fact.

Schalke have been quick to deny reports in the Polish press linking them with a move for Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

When asked today by Revier Sport about the possibility of recruiting the 28-year-old in January, Horst Heldt, general manager of Bundesliga outfit, replied, “He’s not someone we’re interested in.”

Out of contract at the end of the season it remains to be seen whether Fabianski opts to stick out the rest of his contract at the Emirates or instead looks for a move in January. He hinted back in September that he’d make a decision before the window opens again in the New Year.

As first choice back-up to Wojciech Szczesny and with Arsenal going great guns in the Premier League he knows any injury to his compatriot would thrust him into the limelight and thus afford him an opportunity to prove his worth to possible suitors ahead of a summer departure.

He could yet stay (for six months), especially with other clubs unlikely to match his current earnings.
