I debated not doing these because what’s the point of 11 zeroes, but here’s how we thought the players rated in today’s thrashing at Anfield.

Don’t forget you can add your own ratings as well, have fun with that today!

Made some saves, left exposed over and over by his defence. Can't be blamed for any of their goals. Like a lamb to the slaughter.

Improved us by replacing Monreal so gets a bit extra

Bonus rating: 10/10 - Arsenal's away fans, brilliant on a day when the team served them up a poo sandwich and a side of dried sick.

Fan of Arsenal, Robert Pires and most everything to do with rum and whiskey. Smiter of those that ought to be smote.

    Poorly-rated Thumb up 127 Thumb down 202

    • One positive thing that can happen is that like last year’s Sp*rs game, the team gets its head together and watches the replay of their abject performance and steps up from next match. And AW finally wakes up and puts Ozil and Monreal on the bench, plays Cazorla in the middle and Rosicky and Ox on the wings

Thumb up 219 Thumb down 4

    • There’s a big difference between being shit ALL the time, and being shit today. Which they were, and we were, but people seem very quick to ignore the fact we’ve been top of the league most of the season and it’s not by accident.

Thumb up 364 Thumb down 26

      • We’ve taken 2 points from games against United, Chelsea, Everton, City and Liverpool since the United game. That says more about us than our current position in the table I’m afraid. We’ll need to get points from top teams if we want to win the league, thus far we havent.

Thumb up 234 Thumb down 25

        • last i checked we beat liverpool at home so thats 3 points, but i guess the deluded fan always has a selective memory. We lost, tough luck, lets support the team next game OMG

Thumb up 60 Thumb down 36

        • We did beat Liverpool at home and also Spurs, 6 big points against top 6 teams (the other 2 points from top 6 sides came from draw at home to everton and draw at home to chelsea).

Let’s look at it this way. Last season United got 14 out of a possible 30 points from the 5 other top 6 teams. We currently have 8 out of 18 with City at home, Everton away, Spurs away and Chelsea away left to play. We absolutely need to win 2 of those 4 games, preferably City home and Chelsea away, if we want to stay in the hunt.

Thumb up 26 Thumb down 2

        • “We’ve taken 2 points from games against United, Chelsea, Everton, City and Liverpool since the United game. That says more about us than our current position in the table I’m afraid.”

Why would our performance over a smaller sample size be more indicative of our true potential than our performance over a longer period of time in the same season? We still have to play all the teams on the schedule, whether or not you happen to rate them, and we get the same points from a game regardless of opponents.

“We’ll need to get points from top teams if we want to win the league,”

Actually I’m pretty sure that there have been recent league winners who won not because they did the best in the mini-league of “top” teams but because they were the most consistent at always beating inferior opposition.

Bottom line, this is weak analysis inspired by knee-jerk (yet understandable) frustration with the team’s poor performance in the most recent game.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 1

      • Yes you’re right. I was problable still raging when I was typing the first two lines.
I love them and they aren’t shit, but they were today.

Thumb up 68 Thumb down 2

      • Did you guys even see how far up the pitch the full backs were for 2-3 goals? No defensive shielding from midfield either. The only time the centre-backs actually didnt do much was sturridge’s goal. And that was a peach of a killer pass from coutinho. Kompany or whoever you feel is the best in busines would have struggled with that.

Thumb up 34 Thumb down 1

        • I completely agree with you. The 2 full backs killed us today (particularly Monreal). When you play away from home against a team with Liverpool’s speed, the full backs should be more conservative.

Thumb up 18 Thumb down 0

        • I thought i was the only one who noticed it!
This the effect of having a player like giroud on the pitch, he NEEDS service, and in our game, that service often comes from the two full backs, they push up and provide width in attack. our wingers drift inside and help with build up combinations, in an attempt to overload the central areas. The result of that is if we begin an attack but the ball is nicked off one of our players just as we reach their 3rd, the full backs are already way up the pitch, and the top teams who have pacey wingers of their own and can position them in areas to immediately exploit us if that situation occurs. This leaves the centre backs completely exposed, then if you combine that with a frankly useless performance from arteta who gave them no cover, it was always going to be very difficult for them.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

      • And there is a difference between a bad day in the office and a cataclysmic breakdown. We all saw this coming so no complaints – it’s not as if it didn’t happen last season, or the one before that…

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 5

      • Are you serious? Surely you’ve witnessed the multiple about – faces Man U and Spurs fans have pulled since the season started.

Thumb up 28 Thumb down 5

      • Szczesny did nothing wrong he deserves a 5 due to some saves.

        The positives:
        1. No injuries
        2. Suarez didn’t score
        3. Ozil was excellent again, oh wait, finally he gets some criticism without the know it all’s saying how great he was off the ball.

Thumb up 50 Thumb down 5

    • folks should never come on comment pages immediately after a game, especially a loss. the tripe they write is very unforgivable. yes it was a disappointed game, but they are the same players who carried us through this journey to Top of the league.
By the end of the weekend we maybe will be only one point from top. PS: GIve credit to Liverpool they played well.

My only criticism is to Mr Ozil, who must find somewhere a” pair of hard balls” and start fighting for his team. granted he is an excellent player, but in big games he needs to be braver, clever and push his team forward by gaining more free kicks.
Finally, the Arsenal team let its fans and global audience down, but two Englishmen are better than the rest.
Cme home Arsenal, our Emirates ( your stronghold) awaits. you are better than this game, this result offensive today.
we are not Spurs…and deserve better from our team.

PS: I don’t care how we do it, we must beat Manchester Utd..end off

Thumb up 92 Thumb down 10

      • **but they are the same players who carried us through this journey to Top of the league.**

I agree about saying stuff in the heat of the moment, but don’t you see that what you said there is what makes it worse? If we supported a club at the bottom of the table and this realistically was the best our team’s players could do against “big” teams then it would hurt less.

The fact that we’re supposed to be a big club too and the players out there today damn well *can* perform much better is what makes the defeat and the way it happened both so bad.

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 2

    • its because the team does too much talkin before the game every time. mourinho consistently claims chelsea arent in the race, keep pressure off from his player. but our players are continuously making statements. they were out of focus. perhaps seeing the light too early.

Thumb up 32 Thumb down 5

      • I have to agree. It makes me nervous when there are 2 page spreads with our players in the red tops leading up to the weekend. I did get the feeling, on here as well as anywhere else, that most of us were expecting to go up to Anfield and collect 3pts as a nice dovetail into DEATHRUN1.

Whatever the reason, this result is clearly not a true reflection of our team, and it’s only our team who can put that straight by getting their shit together for the rest of these difficult fixtures. How we went from the second best defence in the league to this travesty is beyond me though. It really is. I think starting with Gibbs on the bench was a mistake but none of us saw this coming and I doubt it would’ve made a huge difference overall.

Ozil definitely needs some time on the bench too I think, yes yes he’s classy and understated and blah blah blah, but he’s simply not doing enough in games right now. I know we’re short in midfield, but on current form Rosicky would have more influence on matches.

Fuck me what a disappointment. We really REALLY have to beat the Mancs at our place midweek or…. I don’t know what. I don’t want to imagine what.

Thumb up 49 Thumb down 0

    • Ozil and Podolski are clearly capable of a lot more…. why they are not giving it, I really don’t know. When Ozil almost scored that solo goal against Southampton, his speed was incredible.. it looked like the Southampton players were going backwards, why have we only seen that speed on one occasion? Podolski can score incredible goals, so why does he only do it in 30% of games, preferring to pass rather than shoot, even though he has scored from similar positions before? This is a serious wake up call and we do need to bury Man Utd when they come to the Emirates….. No more starting with Monreal… we start with Gibbs!

Thumb up 26 Thumb down 5

      • Does Poldi even play 30% of games minute wise er no. He never gets a chance to get any rhythm in his game it pisses me off. Other than that totally agree with you.

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 2

    • We were poor undoubtedly, but the players and fans need to move on quickly and beat those shithouses on
      Wednesday.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  2. Sigh. All I can say is that we need a very strong rebound against United to get us back on our feet and we’ll see where we go from there. This game isn’t season defining, we’ve been great so far and can’t let this blip ruin us.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  3. Just don’t understand where these hammerings come from. We are going along great, meet one of the so called big teams and this happens! Just don’t understand. Worst thing is, everyone of those match of the day/ pundits said this would happen. And it did.

Thumb up 85 Thumb down 2

    • The thug is though, that we really weren’t l in recent games we were struggling to get out of the blocks quickly often. We drew at Southampton and struggled to break down Palace. We’re getting lazy and losing our winning mentality,

Thumb up 54 Thumb down 1

  4. Actually the arsenal we know, competes for fourth not trophy! We had the chance to reinforce but we didn’t, why? Because our manager thinks we are over achieving, if we had been around 7th when the window opened then you would have seen influx of signings to help us clinch 4th. I just cant understand why we couldnt do the same to help us clinch the trophy. Do you now agree that wenger can no longer lead us to a trophy? No! Probably because WENGER KNOWS BEST!

Thumb up 42 Thumb down 78

    • All we have to do now is pick up ourselfs from the ground, get a good dusting, prepare for united, give them the best possible trashing of their lives then wait for revenge at the weekend. Personally anything less than a 3 goal margin victory against liverpool in the fa cup would be unacceptable by me, I dont know about you guys!

Thumb up 15 Thumb down 10

    • i understand that we are angry, but we have to think just a moment before thumbing-up such bullshit, much less to write it

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 9

  5. I can’t really single anyone out – I think the only appropriate score is Arsenal – 1/10. The whole team played like shit. Wilshere, Ox and Szczesny at least looked like they gave a shit, granted, but even then they didn’t do anything all that positive when it mattered.

Thumb up 38 Thumb down 3

  6. Szcz deserves a seven at least.

Rosicky and Gibbs each gave more than the others bar Ox and arguably Wilshere too. I’d give three of those a five and a six to the Ox.

Agree with the other marks though.

Thumb up 65 Thumb down 4

  7. Newcastle 5 Man Utd 0. Mid season. Utd end up champions.

    Calm down everyone.

Yes, we were shite. When I watch footy I imagine what I would do when closed down. I would panic and utter chaos would ensue. It was like 10 of me were playing for 30 minutes.

I also realised that I was wearing my spare glasses for the first time since we let 6 in against City. I left my ‘lucky’ pair at work.

So it’s all my fault. But don’t worry, I won’t forget the ‘unbeaten’ specs next from now on.

Thumb up 151 Thumb down 4

    • I’m old enough to remember Stoke City beating us 5-0 in the season that we won our first double. These results happen and it’s no disgrace to lose away at Liverpool (although the performance was truly dreadful). The most important thing is to beat MU on Wednesday.

Thumb up 71 Thumb down 1

      • Great perspective from you and Neil. Abject performance, but in the context of the season, and in the context of previous champions over the years, it’s not unusual.

That said–and this has nothing to do how I feel after the game today–I don’t think I’ve ever truly believed we could win the title this season. A cup trophy seems more likely, but over the long haul, it tends to be the teams with the most resources / investment (therefore better overall squad) that takes it.

Looking forward to a good response on Wednesday.

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 0

        • The most depressing thing is that despite our solid defence and impressive points haul so far, we haven’t really played well since early November. Maybe this beating is the kind of wake-up call we need – I don’t know what else to suggest.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

  8. Per and Kos are the best, just had a bad day..
Wenger should bench Ozil and let him come as a sub. Rocisky is the only player that should replace him. And the most important thing is that Wenger should change his tactics and game plan match by match.
COYG.. Now please give us something to cheer against WoMan Utd.

Thumb up 34 Thumb down 7

  9. And i don’t understand why wenger went ahead to warn sagna before a huge game like this. Anyone has a clue??? That obviously got into sagnas mind, wenger should know better. Oh I thought wenger knows best

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 49

    • Yes, good work, chap. Wenger commenting on Sagna’s contract before the game probably was at the heart of the team’s worst performance all season. Nailed it!

Thumb up 44 Thumb down 1

  10. Season after season after season this happens. Frustrating as fuck. A loss on Wednesday and you’d have to say the league dream is over.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 15

  11. Any “fan” who says “Arsenal won’t win the league” or even “wenger out” should automatically give up any right to celebrate anything we win. Because wenger will have won us that and if you’re not supporting you’re team to win or giving them any credit ever you shouldn’t share in the feeling of a throphy which many us don’t even need because we love Arsenal 9 years or 90 without a throphy.

Thumb up 51 Thumb down 9

    • We wondered where you’d gone.

Small bit of advice, Dick. At no point in Premier League or NFL history has a wide receiver switched football codes and been converted into a striker, no matter what Stan or Tom Fox tell you. You might want to try Europe or South America in the summer instead. Offering a decent sum for a decent player might help too.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

    • Not sure about that to be honest. If they do, we could end up forth. ‘Pools fixtures in the next month are kind to them and I cant see them dropping any points.

Lets face it, we might beat Utd on Wednesday, we wont beat Chelsea (we never do plus Hazard is on fire at the moment), and we might get something against City based on their away form.

      Worrying tiimes

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 8

  12. After the Palace game I wrote that Ozil could play lot better if he tried a little harder and got called a moron for it. Well, whatever suits you people I’m just trying to be objective and you don’t have to resort to name calling. Also anyone who thinks that it isn’t largely Wengers fault we lost today needs to rethink. We played exactly the way they wanted us, very predictable, and exposing our weakness which every team has.
Now that I’m wasted after watching this with my mates, I’m going to bed.
Oh and I wore my Arsenal scarf proudly, always have, always will.

Thumb up 35 Thumb down 5

    • I am totally in sync with what you say. I have also said in the past that despite Ozil’s talent and vision up front, he needs to increase his work rate as well as tracking up and down because we need that when we are looking to be defensively sound. I thought he’d put a lot of work into it in the Southampton game where he was brilliant. But now I definitely think it was spurious and flukey. He really needs to get his act together.

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 1

  13. We are all disappointed but the thing is, put up against most of the other performances this season, this performance and result seems to be just a bad day in the office. You could argue that Arsene Wenger got his tactics wrong or that the mugsmashers were more motivated and fired up for this. Anyways, it’s done and no amount of caterwauling can change that. Get behind the team and pray that we smash the ailing mancs on wednesday. UTA>

Thumb up 21 Thumb down 0

  14. Oh come on now… Wilshere, Ox, Szczesny, arguably a few more, did all they could. It’s a team game, not their fault the rest didn’t show up. A bit harsh I think.

Thumb up 15 Thumb down 6

    • No, they didn’t. You’re just remembering the 2nd half. Look at the 1st half again and they were all gone. We were 4-0 down after 20 min because everyone were completely missing.

After that it was a half decent performance that ended 1-1. So what? We had already lost at that point, can’t really give people points for effort when we’ve already conceded four goals.

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 1

  15. Sigh. All I can say is that we need a very strong rebound against United to get us back on our feet and we’ll see where we go from there. This game isn’t season defining, we’ve been great so far and can’t let this blip ruin us.

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

  16. Zonal marking is the reason for the first two goals,it’s a dreadful system against a clever team, needs to be ditched ASAP by our manager, why play monreal when a semi fit gibbs is a better player, ozil I hope he comes good, it looks like he’s not even trying, Arteta just can’t play as a DM, and we’ve seen that wilshere struggles after injury, shorly rosicky wS the better option,, and don’t get me started on the fact we didn’t buy a striker,,

I can seen 3 more defeats coming up if we continue as we are, and then it’ll be all a waste despite our most promising start to the season,, one quality signing would have galvanised us and given us a boost till the end, you keep that money in you pocket wenger

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 17

    • Sorry but that’s just nonsense. Italy have been marking zonally for donkey’s years. If it was down to the system, nobody would use it. It’s not as if goals are not conceded by teams employing man for man. That’s just the kind of simplistic argument the tv pundits use to stop them having to do any genuine analysis I’m afraid. They spout it, then watch it parroted up and down the land.

Thumb up 23 Thumb down 1

  17. Flamini’s red card looks like a costly mistake now. Need Rambo back. Still only 3 points dropped. Rodgers must have got hold of our players’s voodoo dolls.

Thumb up 31 Thumb down 0

    • We completely outplayed them at home, but got absolutely battered today by the same team. Counter-attacked to oblivion. Hopefully we can gather ourselves and give the Mancs a kicking midweek.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  18. hey, it’s one game. Last time I checked it was only worth 3 points no matter what the score. We were shell shocked by their speed, but let’s get back to London and beat Man U mid week!

Thumb up 19 Thumb down 4

    • It may be only 3pts dropped but our goal difference took a hammering. You can bet your balls there won’t be a team who put 5 past Chelsea this season.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 1

  19. How are we in the league position we are in and then put out a performance like that. My 2 kids put in more effort than that every week they play. Refund the travelling supporters, and get a bloody grip.

Thumb up 13 Thumb down 3

  20. I know Wenger should have bought some good players to strengthen the squad
I know that performance was not good enough
I know that it is going to hurt when you read the papers tomorrow
BUT I know that I am and always will be Arsenal–Time to get behind the boys and support them

Thumb up 22 Thumb down 0

  21. Shame we have so many arsehole so-called fans on here..very poor game but its still only 1 game, time to stick together, dickheads

Thumb up 21 Thumb down 9

  22. In my opinion, the manager deserves to be rated poor not the players. He set the midfield up to be exposed to the fast attack of Liverpool. Looks more like the team lacked a game plan.

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 11

  23. The real issue with Ozil at the moment is not that he’s not hitting the heights of a world class player – he’s been consistently our weakest player for a while now.

He has it in him, we know that.

Some bucking up of ideas needs to be done.

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 3

  24. Hate to say this, but us gooners are a very pessimistic, insecure and cynical lot. Its only 3 pints. Still a lot of drama to unfold. Stay positive folks.

Thumb up 22 Thumb down 4

    • It’s only 3 points? Those 3 points could have kept us clear at the top of the table, taking into consideration the other results of the top 3. So it is not ONLY 3 points, every point is vital in this title race. It’s ”only” 3 points if we’re clear at the top of the table by 8 points or more.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  25. There’s a difference between a lack of class and a lack of fight/attitude. And for me, I’d rather have a player with the latter attributes than the former (both would be fantastic of course).

So Özil gets a big fat Ö for his performance today. The lack of fighting spirit he shows when the chips are down is worrying. (think about Fabregas and how he’d try to drag the team by the scruff of its neck if things weren’t going well).

And Giroud needs to bloody buck up. Spent the whole of the recent transfer window declaring that we didn’t need another striker, then goes and performs badly in almost all the games since January. Doubt it can be any coincidence that Giroud’s best form came at the start of the season, when we were actively looking to buy new strikers.

  27. I became a fan of the club well after the glory days.. I have never seen them winning a trophy.. I only read about their best days. If i can wait patiently year after year for the good times, you all can.. Yes.. I agree we were bad..our worst performance so far this season. But..be with them. If they ever need us to be with them, its now! I am in Singapore and I cant come over to Emirates for the next game. If I could, I can guarantee you that I will be the one who made the loudest of noises in that majestic stadium of ours! Get behind your team..!

    Forever Gunner!

I do feel like a real fan when we have days like this! It totally fucks my entire week upside down!

Thumb up 42 Thumb down 0

  28. Let’s save all the doom and gloom for after Wednesday’s game. If we don’t get a result there I’d say it’s safe to push the panic button.

Thumb up 9 Thumb down 0

  29. Certainly can’t blame Wojo much at all, made some good stops to keep the scoreline as it was and left out to dry over and over again.

Wilshere needs to learn to keep composed, it’s one thing to be hard nosed and give everything you have, but his reckless play when he’s pissed off is going to get him hurt again.

This was the kind of game that we really needed more team speed in all areas. Exposed everywhere. Poor Arteta, looks like injury and age have really caught up to him. I love him as a person and player, but just cannot keep up this year with these top teams.

Thumb up 18 Thumb down 0

  30. I hate plastic fans. There’s being critical of the team and then there is being a complete arsehole and over the top. Wenger to stay. Arsenal are not in crisis.

Thumb up 20 Thumb down 4

  31. UP THE GOONERS!!! One loss, we are going to lose 1st spot but still long to go, let’s focus on Man Utd and beating them on home soil at the Emirates and better performance required from all the players won’t name names because its a team game and we didn’t deliver today. Let’s respond to the critics and HAMMER UNITED this week and we’ll be ready for revenge against the Mugsmashers next Sunday. ARSENAL4LIFE!!! WIN, LOSE OR DRAW.

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 0

  32. Only Szczney, Ox and Wilshere, maybe Rosicky, left that with any real credit. It’s been coming too. Ozil is a great player but he isn’t built for the league, not yet anyway. Played with an impossibly high line, probably to compensate for the fact that we had zero pace in our attack. Incredibly complacent against liverpool’s pace and attacking impetus.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  33. Shocking. Can’t see us getting enough points against the big teams to win it this year. It was January last week and we’re looking a bit lightweight.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  34. I’m not one for a panic. We’re a great side. But when teams press like Southampton, Liverpool then struggle. I think man u and Bayern could be a worry. I really hope we don’t let our heads drop for the man u game.

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 0

  35. thanks to Ozil we had 10 players on the field form the start n liverpool breezed past us . Rosicky wud have done much better . Ozil looks like Arshavin when he was past his best … its really sad we bought another 60minute player for 40million quids

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 2

  36. I see people praising Wilshere, and I admit he’s one, along with Ox and TR7, who tried to make something happen 2nd half. But he completely failed to protect the backs, and was supposed to. Totally missing for the first 20 mins. That Arteta-Wilshere pivot behind Özil, Chamberlain and Cazorla just didn’t work today.

Also, I’d hoped we’d start Rosicky and Gibbs today, we needed to be the ones out of the blocks first. Sagna, Cazorla, Özil, Arteta, Mertesacker and Koscielny all had off days. What happened, I don’t know. Did heads drop after that opening goal?

I can’t make up my mind about Monreal, but we needed Gibbs’ defensive energy today.

We missed Flamini, Ramsey and Walcott today. And no January signings could have made up for that.

    Still, onwards and upwards…

Thumb up 18 Thumb down 0

    • I agree, Rosicky could’ve really protected the defense. I’m just going to assume he wasn’t 100% fit or some such thing, because he really seemed like a very obvious choice today, especially since Wilshere had also just returned from injury.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

  37. I disagree. Kos and Mert have lost their 1st match playing full 90 for the first time in almost 2 yrs and now suddenly they’re shit?
Even im not that fickle ffs

Look what twitter has done to you!

Thumb up 24 Thumb down 2

  38. All I want to say is now is the time to stand up if you are a real arsenal fan. Yes we cocked up but 1 point behind leaders (I expect) does not mean we should get too pissed. Come on you gunners show your support.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 2

  39. Don’t know the reason for Wilshere’s rating, to me he was one of our worst players today. Something went horribly wrong in either the manager informing him what he was supposed to do, or his execution of those instructions.

Both times Özil (who was horrendous today) lost the ball I wondered where the hell Wilshere was, both before and after Özil losing the ball.

Hopefully the team will feel they have some serious payback to extract in the FAcup.

Thumb up 12 Thumb down 1

    • True, we were poor at regaining possession today. We’ve actually been good at that this season, which is one of the main reasons we’ve done so well defensively, but today we were hopeless. Arteta had one of his worst matches for us (one of few I might add, so I don’t agree that he’s “shit” or anything like that) and Wilshere was missing when we lost the ball.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  40. Since the defeat to Napoli, we seem to have become a really negative side from the off only slowly warming into the game after about the first half hour.. We have looked shacky against teams that press us hard and were lucky against Southampton the other day. Wenger must take some responsibility for these performances, his outbursts about scheduling and his bizarre January transfer window shows some underlying issues which need resloving..

Thumb up 8 Thumb down 0

    • To your point: We have scored 10 goals in the first 30 minutes of games this season. Liverpool have 26.

So yeah, we seem relatively content to have a kick about for a while and see if teams will let us waltz one into their goal. Could be worse, though. Spuds have 4.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 1

  41. Its one game guys. We have been playing pretty ordinary and getting away with it of late.

If we can beat United and beat Pool in the cup, I’ll settle for that…It can be turned round in a week.

    COYG!!!

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  42. Good use of the Thesaurus there Blogs! Although I thought Rosicky showed us exactly what we were missing when he came on. Also, Ozil is still learning the Premier League ie you have to fight til the last minute against every team. Hopefully he’ll get that soon!

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 1

  43. Looked to me like we had a plan that went ass up as soon as Scousers started moving quickly. But it’s only one game. Liverpool were brilliant, but I’ll be surprised if they finish top four.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  44. We were shite today, Ozil really needs to step it up!

But kudos to liverpool who were brilliant… If i was gonna lose 5-1 to someone I’d rather lose 5-1 to the Mug Smashers than to Chelski, Manure or Man Shitty…

I think that by the end of this weekend we’ll probably be a point off the top and if someone had said that to me at the end of the Villa game I would have had a laugh…

Still loads to play for, COYG!

Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

  45. Worst performance by a country mile . After the heavy loss to City, I said it was a fluke but today’s result might have proved me wrong. This type of performance should not be acceptable for Arsenal standards. Yes we have been top of league for a while now but we haven’t been playing well recently,. This game resembled the start of our game against Southampton the only difference being that we didn’t concede many goals in the first half. And can somebody explain why we always start the games so slow against decent opposition. Wringer needs to sort out this mess before the season slip so far away from us.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  46. So now United is clearly a must win. It isn’t that we lost. It is how far off the pace, how utterly confused, frazzled and lost we were right from the start, especially as soon as the first goal was shipped…..which was basically kickoff.

That type of scene brings back alarmingly awful memories of recent years past….I just hope we can be as resolute as we have been so far this season. Every level of the squad from Giroud all the way to the center halves were running around like headless chickens and the gaps were shocking.

That’s the issue I feel….the manner of the way it happened.

Come on boys you have to dig in deep now.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  47. Refund the fans Arsenal. Every fucking penny. And then, get your heads down in training, and stop talking. I don’t want to hear an apology, or any excuses. The biggest apology you can give the fans (and yourselves) is to beat Utd on Wednesday. Convincingly.

Thumb up 19 Thumb down 2

    • Why do you talk like they owe you something? They don’t. If they have fans, they earned it. It’s them who must be feeling worse than us. Feel for them! And do hope the next result will be better. .! Stand together and act like the real good gooner family!

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 3

  48. since the last few years it has always been hard being a gooner as a result, i used to time like these… hahaha… by 10mins I was already thinking to myself, did wenger take the boys out to town last night ? although, i’m pretty sure ozil did.. teams have realized that we can’t play direct football, we are gonna get suffocated by hardworking teams..

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  49. Not as angry or upset as much as I thought I’d be, probably because as usual we will finish 3rd or 4th, and be a couple of world class players short of moving up a level to win the league or champions league….it’s what we do, and it’s who we are, and as long as Wenger’s there it won’t change….accept it, or move on.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 3

  50. Are people mad jack was ment to sit in and help arteta protect the back 4 today he was up to nothing today.

Scheez as per usual when exposed by defence showed he is really not as good a keeper as people think.

Ozil was lazy and looks like he is missing rambo as much as us.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 7

    • I actually saw an analysis of the whole Ozil with Ramsey thing. It was very interesting, and pointed out just how good Ozil is when Ramsey (or Walcott) is present because they threaten the room behind the defense in a much better way than Cazorla, Ox, Wilshere etc. That way, he can find key passes through the defense all the time, instead of being forced to pass backwards all the time.

That being said, today was just flat out crap, so a single player here or there would probably not have made a difference.

Thumb up 10 Thumb down 0

  51. and for AW. if you suck in first half as we did in last games, and you can’t resolve this issue, change something. park the bus in front penalty area against good teams anf wait for some time. I am afraid that bayern will rape us like fucking reds did.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 1

  52. It’s a fucking horrible feeling that the best I could give was a 3.5 to Szczesny. Just sums up how poor we were really. Hopefully this was a kick up the arse and we’ll see a much better performance on wednesday. I’m hoping Gibbs will start because there is something wrong with Monreal at the moment. He doesn’t look quite right.

Ozil also needs to look at himself because he was dreadful. He’s supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he did nothing to prove that. He should be striving to better himself every game if he wants to keep that status.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  53. Anybody else worried about Özil’s form? I don’t think I’ve seen him play well since the home game against Napoli. He looks totally disinterested.

Thumb up 16 Thumb down 0

    • thats the 2nd time hes pulled out in a race to get through on goal (did it against man u) – just cant understand it cos he can really motor..

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  54. I think we needed to slow the game down today and not let Liverpool dicate a high pace. Not sure the high line helped today either. First 15 mins should have been keep ball rather then picking the ball out of the net three timed. As we all know a world class striker is definitely required, We need a new Henry.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  55. We struggle against the top teams, but perform better than the top teams against weaker opposition. Only beat Liverpool, and 2x Tottenham of the top teams. Draw Chelsea and Everton, loss City, loss United, loss Liverpool away, also lost Chelsea in League cup. So 3 Win, 2 Draw and 4 Losses are the stats vs the best the teams so far this season in all competitions.

If we just look at the league games we have collected 8 of a possible 21 Points vs those teams. Could do with extra 4-5 Points vs these teams in second half of season. The City and Chelsea games will be vital. Coyg!

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  56. We shouldn’t care about what others say. The fact is after games no 25 the worst case scenario places AFC third in table, 2 points off the top. That’s not bad. Not bad after our predictions after game no1. The only worry I’d point out is evident lack of fight when things are not going the way players want. The real lack of guts!!! Seems like Flamini will be instrumental after his red card absence.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  57. Well the defeat against manure was followed by an impressive run, gotta hope for the same after this defeat! I really hope we do manure mid week and get revenge on the bin dippers in the cup – can only hope they get cocky and get a tonking at our place!!! What really disappoints me is how poorly we played in such an important match!! We said this result could be the Bayern effect of last season, but it didn’t turn out that way – more like the sickener against brum when super Eduardo got savaged!!! Can’t help but feel this is the beginning of a mare, but seriously hope not!!! I could cope with losing to both city and liverpoo if it was just one goal but to get tonked twice is confidence sapping!!!

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  58. The difference between 1-0 and 5-1 doesn’t much matter as things stand. This wooping makes it easier to establish that there is a problem. It was a good day for a wake up call, right before some important games. Although we’ve been picking up points, we’ve not looked dangerous without Ramsey.

The traveling support shuold get refunds out of O:zil and co’s wages.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  59. mostly bad. kos much improved second half. szczesny slow off his line, didn’t control his area and failed in general for me. I’ve never seen Per and Sanga play so badly.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  60. Flamini a massive miss today so at least we,all have him back next week Gibbs will start before Montreal in the week,.. and yes its time for ozil to be dropped . He will yet come good but its just not happening at the moment and his depriving podolski and /or rositsky of their places when they have shown themselves to be offering more.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  61. Guys, we are still within a point of the top. Calm the fuck down. This is just a kick up the arse which will make the team look at themselves vow never to have it happen again.
These players won’t roll over, we have too much experience and quality this time. We badly missed Ramsey today… Fucking injuries.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 3

  62. My head is spinning from the shit game and the comments here.
    I’ll join:
    Shit effort from most.
    Shit performance by all.
    I don’t agree with coach’s line-up and I didn’t agree with this past January’s movement.
We are most likely third at this point instead of first.
We are going to get KILLED in the press until we get back to first.
However, I am a Gunner and I don’t care where we are in the table, they are still my team. I would love to ring their necks right now and my hands of it, but I can’t. I stand behind my team, my coach and my players and I hope this is a wake-up call for the lull we’ve been on as of late. This was only 3 points. So let’s get behind them, all of them, and hope/pray that Wednesday is a big win for us.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

    • Why would anyone give a monkeys what the press say? These are people who sat and did nothing while their colleagues hacked a murdered kids phone. Talentless good for nothing shit eaters to a man.

Thumb up 6 Thumb down 1

  63. we will never win another thropie under wenger, beating Liverpool at home didnt matter it does now, every time were near to winning a thropie ,voodoo seems to take the players, why didnt we buy decent in january?, why dont we believe we can win something, this defeat really hurts my soul, anyway ill judge wenger end of season!

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 5

  64. Wenger had his tactics wrong today and not for the first time this season. Everyone knows that Arteta, Koscielny and Mertesacker are not the fastest. So why play such a high line against an opposition with fast attack?

It happened at Man City and it happened today, seems to me Wenger doesnt learn from his lessons. Personally I would have played with 4-3-3 formation, Gibbs instead of Monreal and in front four Wilshere, Arteta, Rosicky and then Cazorla, Giroud and Ox. Arsenal should have sat back and counterattacked with speed of OX and Cazorla where possible.

Having such a defensive high line with Ozil losing possession frequently in midfield just undone us. Not trying to put the blame on Ozil only, but he has been poor lately, understandably needing the usual winter break that he may be accustomed in Germany and Spain. Today the whole team was poor, passing and fluency was in-existent, hardly any focus or any energy at any area of the pitch.

Lets hope we regain ourselves and win against Manure.

    COYG

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 2

  65. I know blogs hates talking about transfers when the window has passed and isn’t due for months, but we need another centre back as we lack depth! Another defensive mid, speedy winger and goal happy striker – probably only get one out of four though!!!

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 2

  66. The time will come to decide how we move forward. Right here right now, how we respond will be the biggest test of our character this season. I am very frustrated too by many things, but if there was ever a time to support the team, it starts today.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  67. I saw Liverpool score the first. Went to the bathroom, came back and it was 4-0. I was completely in shock. I think I’m a bit numb atm because I read the player ratings and lapsed into a fit of laughter. MOTD is going to be painful today

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 2

  68. That loss really hurt. I’m Australian and most of my mates couldn’t give two shits about football (instead they prefer Australian Rules), but I decided to drag a few of them down to a local bar for the big game, with the hope of inspiring them to take notice. They honestly must have felt so embarrassed for me.

Now, my mini-autopsy – I felt like we absolutely shat ourselves against a team that came out with a specific plan to cause us to panic. Their pressure was intense and unrelenting and we wilted.

The first goal was painful to watch – I believe that the team as a whole is too slow to persist with the high line that we hold when facing those wide set-pieces. Plus it had to be Martin bloody Skrtel. Every time we concede a free kick in those situations, my heart is in my mouth. In my eyes, it is a tactic we need to reassess.

The rest of the game, we were destroyed by blistering counter-attacking football, in which Liverpool made the most of some disastrous midfield passing. There was no run off the ball to make space to release the pressure that was being applied, so the goals we conceded were almost a direct result of laziness and ball-watching. Liverpool shut down the space fanatically and our players did not work hard enough to help each other out.

Individually, Özil was a disaster – it seems to me that his mentality is what is holding him back. His skills and vision are out of this world, but he does not have the mindset of a world-beater. Real champions respond to situations like what we faced today – they stand up under pressure, they have a hunger for the ball and the big moments. Take Cristiano Ronaldo for example – he and Özil are in the same league talent-wise (CR7 is admittedly more of an athlete), but Ronaldo is a maniac when it comes to winning. You can see the fury when a team-mate doesn’t pass him the ball and you can see how hard he works to get into goalscoring positions so often. Özil hides when the going gets tough (god I hate saying that).

I also felt like we were let down by our full-backs, who often left Mertesacker and Koscielny high and dry. The wonderful connection between our centre-halves was absent today, for reasons I am not sure of, however they were too often left without assistance with Sagna and Monreal having charged forward. Mertesacker looked like he was running on a treadmill today with Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling dashing towards and past him.

Arteta’s defensive positioning was disastrous too – there were multiple times where his indecision caught him out. He needed to choose to tackle and then stick with it, instead of jockeying, deciding to tackle and creeping forward, then returning to jockeying. Players of high speed and quality will pounce on that indecision every time, which showed today.

No-one should blame Wenger for his lack of transfer activity. We would surely have been far more active than it seemed and no-one realises how hard it is to bring in world-class talent mid-season.

The only criticism I have of the boss is that we could have played Wilshere in a more advanced role, with Chamberlain in centre midfield. Ox is strong and works his ass off in the middle of the park and I feel like Jack is far more effective when he takes charge of our attacks creatively.

Thanks to anyone who took the time to read my post – I’ve only been watching football fanatically a few months (long-term fan, however never been this obsessed) so please let me know if there is anything I could learn about football-wise, or anything that I may have forgetten about. I am eager to pick up on things.

    – Lloyd

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  70. How costly Flamini’s red card has been by the look’s of it,and how we are missing Theo & Rambo, good god we need aaron back & fast!!Also good news that YaYa Sanogo look’s like he is on his way back, so that will be cover up front for Giroud & Bendtner.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  71. Utterly gutted. I feel sick to the stomach. But we’ve been here before, haven’t we? We’re all hurt.
Let’s put this behind us, make the Emirates HELL for ManU, and DESTROY them. How I want us to humiliate them.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  72. Arsenal shouldve never have got rid of Henri Lansbury. Forest fans are raving about him at the moment. Fair enough only championship level – but English players have more of a fight about them, hence the best performers today. Wenger got rid because he didnt have the top technical ability compared to say Ozil et al.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 3

    • Seriously?

Ever heard of a guy called Patrick? He was not English, but had plenty of fight about him. Things turned out pretty alright when he was playing for us as well.

      Oh, why bother.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

  73. I’m angrry too. of whole gang! even of Wenger! for his moves in last summer with NO FORWARD! and 40,000,001! and Kalstrom even with his thoughts about Defensive Midfielders today and play Monreal!

But today was about a bad thoughts and opinion in whole gang! They were thinking it’s easy like 2-0 at home and with a bad decision of ref in first for foul and then for offside,so we went down. Our players aims kill us! very simple and Mert and Koscielny were alone with NO defensive midfielder (Plus have to say Arteta is not a DM and today he didn’t help our def) we lost the game and in Forward we had Giroud. he had a bad day too! like all big games he plays all the time and i wonder why Wenger still say he’s the best! and dosen’t need a more Forward! Plus i recognize when team do good Ozil do better! Because his gameplay very conected with emotions!! It;s bad. When we go down 2-0 he been nervous and make a worse ever play for us today! yes we can talk a lot about things like that!
    BUT
Today bad performance is not about the whole season in past and in next games! We are not in summer to make big changes. Best thing for next matches it’s too forget it soon enough! be Professional. Especially when it’s soo close in top 3 team! with 56, 55 and 54 points. I’m agree with Wenger in this “it’s not easy that everybody predict”. Now we have 13 other game for do better! And JUST should go home and go in Emirates for MU game! We did worse in City game! 6-3. Everybody talked about us and said we’re nothing! but we showed them how we can do this season! Now we did a bad scoreline like City game! with Gifts that present to Liverpool but it’s more important to back in the form.
NOW DEAR GUNNERS! BE A REAL GUNNER! WE’LL WIN VS UNITED
GO TO EMIRATES AND SUPPORT THE TEAM!
    Up The Gunners

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  74. Worst arsenal performance i’ve seen in years. At least during the 8-2 drubbing, we had our fringe players for that game. But this??? you want to know the difference?? simple liverpool had 2 better strikers than we do. Anyone who has the nerve to defend giroud must really be an idiot now. I’ve never ever seen that guy show up against big teams. Our so called first team striker can’t even get in this liverpool team. Title contenders with such a wack average strikeforce??? yeah and wilshere needs to be benched….i’d have rather started ox through the middle and gnabry on the wings….I’M TOTALLY PISSED OFF AT THE MOMENT…

Thumb up 5 Thumb down 0

  75. I wish Wilshere was a better footballer, because you can’t fault the attitude.
I wish Özil had a better attitude, because he’s a good player.
    Solution?
Well, it won’t look pretty, I tell you! :-D

Thumb up 11 Thumb down 1

  76. I don’t think we can blame fatique or anything for this defeat.

The players have to look at themselves firstly. There was enough quality in the team on field but they did not rise to occasion.

I can’t comment on Wenger’s tactics but even if they were poor, that should not have culminated in such a dreadful scoreline.

It is only going to get harder and steeper from here onwards with City and Chelsea likely to make good on our defeat. What it says for confidence is anyone’s guess albeit we must temper with the fact we came back from the other dreadful 6-3 defeat to City, the margins this time round are far slimmer.

We failed Death Run 1 and survived. This is Death Run 2 which may be a little less forgiving.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 1

  77. We have the squad we have and yes, whilst a forward was always an EXTREMELY useful addition for us, there should be no excuse for this squad to perform this badly.

Painful as it is, I will be watching this massacre of us later. :(

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  78. Ozil.

He puts his head down too quickly when things don’t go right for him.

He needs to learn to dig deep (like Jack and Ox) and have a bit more fight about him. Talented as he is, that extra 10% competitiveness (ask Ramsey) will transform him and truly afford him to meet his undoubted full potential. He came here not the full article IMO and can improve.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  79. Strange to say, but Liverpool completely out-played us in midfield. When we moved the ball left, the Liverpool midfield moved to their right to out-number us. When we got the ball into their half, the whole team got back to defend. Our midfield did absolutely nothing. No one closed down, tracked back, nothing. It was exactly the same as in the Man $ity game, our midfield absolutely fell to pieces, and that’s why we lost.

And I can’t single anyone out. The entire midfield was shit, to be honest. Yes Arteta was poor, but he can’t do all the defensive work for the other midfielders on his own. Wilshere threw his arms about and moaned a bit, but if I judge him solely on his actual football, I can honestly say he was no better than (or worse) than the other midfielders. Cazorla was slightly better than Ozil, but still poor. The only man who did anything was Chambo. When we got the rare chance to attack he looked lively on several occasions, but again, the man can’t do it on his own. Like I said, I can’t point fingers. The midfield is a unit, and as a unit they were shit.

And the terrible midfield affected the entire team. Giroud got absolutely nothing to work with. He recieves the ball with 3 or 4 Liverpool players around him, and people say he’s shit because he doesn’t have the skill to beat a few players, and mutter some crap about “doesn’t have good feet” or whatever. Be realistic, there was very little he could have done with a non-existent midfield, which left Liverpool rampant.

Again, the shit midfield left our back five exposed. If you give the opposition acres of space to make runs and passes in the middle of the field of course our defense will suffer. If you bothered to look, you would have noticed each member of that back five did good things in that match. Mertesacker made interception and clearances, Koscielny pressed and made tackles, Szczesny made some good stops, etc. And Monreal is not shit. He’s had a few games below his standard, but before that he was playing well. Anyone can go through a dip (the same applies to Arteta). Again, if the midfield is utter shite, there isn’t much our defence can do, or have you forgot the Man $ity game?

And I find it disgusting that some people are using this as an opportunity to slag those players they like to slag. Arteta, Giroud, Monreal or whoever are very definitely NOT shit, Wenger is NOT shit. They have all been an important part of keeping this team at the top of the table for a long time. This is NOT a shit club. Even if they have a bad game, they are all passionate about the club and do their best. What more do you want? We just want people who will do their best for the club, even if their performances on the day don’t bring the results we want. Why can’t we just get behind the team that gives there all on the pitch, if they aren’t good enough on the day, well there’s nothing anyone can do about that, the least we can do is cheer them on and support the club.

And lastly, Liverpool were simply magnificent for most of the game. Granted, we were thoroughly shite, but Liverpool could easily have scored 8 or more, to be fair. Hats off to them for a terrific performance.

  80. Honestly for me Szczesny deserves a 7 out of 10. Despite our absolutely dreadful defending he still made a few decent stops and did everything that was expected of him. A valiant attempt on all the goals – coming out and spreading himself as much as possible. He even got a touch on Skrtel’s uncontested header from a yard out and stopped Sterling’s inital attempt. However since Liverpool’s attackers had so much space there was literally nothing more he could do to stop the goals.

  81. Good thing Norwich rose to occasion.

We’re still in it with Chelsea a point ahead. No room for ANY cock up against United.

  82. Lets hope we come back with a vengeance against United on Wednesday, and that we take some proper Revenge on Liverpool in the Cup.

Wenger has got abit passive on his old days opting to just sit and watch the team while the goals are pouring in behind Szczesny. Meanhwile Rodgers is taking Notes and orchestrating his team throughout the game tweaking his tactics.

Wonder why, cause Wenger was alot more active on the sidelines in the old days.

  83. I hate to say this. We are not winning somethings this year. The team in recent weeks has struggled to win games and teams around us are picking points and have closed up the gap on the table. Wenger failed to improve the team in January. In reality, do we think we have a chance against mancity and chelsea? looking at both teams dept and statement on the pitch, the team need to increase work rate because every point now counts.Any lazy player should be benched regardles of name or price tag.Tactically, wenger has limited himself but not bring in more players in january

  84. I just hope the lads aren’t taking them selves too seriously and ruining their heart for the game, as much as it is about winning it’s about having fun – losing by this margin isn’t fun for anyone, especially the fans. What happened? Arsenal you’re better than this.

  85. “Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny admits he can’t wait to run out at Anfield this afternoon”

    Won’t be saying that again.

  86. Rating Koscielny and Mertesacker the same way is rating the ends and not the causes, the global defense was poor but Koscielny won many chalenges and just couldn’t offset Mertesacker lack of intensity

  87. Eagerly (not really as it will bring back memories of this poo eating Phil Collins singing blaah) Anam’s column on our tactics this week. Arsene seems to have got it horribly wrong.

  88. ** ratings contribution based solely upon the first 20 min, at which time I watched the rest on fast forward. At least I was able to do something during my toddlers nap other than waste my time and mood on that sh!t show.

If they can’t show up for SOME of the big games – especially those with 2nd string CBs and leaky defenses – there is still obviously a confidence problem. Wenger believer, but really wish when these happen he’d get up and on them rather than carry the body language as if he’s lost his cat.

    Onward.

  89. 100% naive tactics. We started off like we were playing fulham at home. Like ot was a complete shock when Liverpool came at us like rabid dogs from the w of whistle. A team who ALWAYS raise there game against the big teams, ESPECIALLY AT HOME.

We can not play the same way against every big team and then act shocked when they have a perfectly planned foil for us. We’re very lucky we didn’t already go through this at Southampton. We stole a point there. United is now a must win, not for the title challenge, but for everything. The pride and belief of the team.

  90. Help me out.
I’m not trying to pretend that anyone was good, but how does Monreal get a lower rating than Sagna. wait don’t respond yet.

Liverpool put Suarez on Monreal’s side and produced no4hing, in terms of goals or assists. Depending on who you want to consider to be Sagna’s mark, Sturridge or Stirling, Liverpool scored a minimum of 2 goals down his flank. Neither defender did anything of note going forward and, as noted, both were part of a horrible side. I just don’t understand why Monreal gets singled out.

  91. We can still win the league but now let everyone shut the hell up and fucking play football. Enough with the interviews. Enough with the ‘we’ve grown up’ bla bla blas and bullshit. Today was my friends birthday and Arsenal ruined it to say the least. Let’s get our shit together and beat Manchester United in the next game then we can go from there.

  92. Yeah we have Mata, Van Persie and Rooney etc. all quaking in their boots now I bet.

Maybe that’s an advantage at least as being an underdog suits us…and maybe if we show up on the day we’ll give them a pasting to get back at them for that 8-2 humiliation.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  93. Screw it, let’s just beat them in the FA Cup and get on with it. We were f**king awful, now let’s get back to top of the table.

  94. I’m sad that this has happened, but it has been coming for a while now. Let’s be honest here and think about how many matches since the Dortmund away match that we have looked really good. I mean we’ve been winning, but it always seemed a grind. A 15 minute spell where we look amazing (normally in the 2nd half), a 60 minute spell where nothing happens and a 15 minute spell where we are sitting back and holding on to the lead. We are lucky in the fact that teams still think we are the amazing ball playing team of 10 years ago, and they decide to sit back against us and let us play. Teams that decided to come out and press us in the middle of the park have all walked away with something. Everton did it and were unlucky to walk away with only a point. Manchester teams both did it and we know how that ended up. Napoli did it in the Champions League and even a Southampton under 21s side did it couple of games before. And of course we saw what Liverpool side did to us. I hope this wakes Wenger up tactically and he sees that you can’t approach certain games with this slow moving pensioner style football. We have Manchester next game, and I guarantee Moyes will do the same thing, press us in the middle and quick balls to the forwards in space. I hope we have a plan B, rather than just passing it left and right in a pedestrian way

  95. Rosicky HAS to start away from home. He is our defensive barometer.

Went away camping; turned off all phones, radios and anything that could spoil my viewing of the replay … wow wee that was right up there with the 8-2 debacle given the first 11 that ran out today.

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  96. All our players failed to turn up and put in a shift. With the possible exceptions of Szezney and Wilshere. This is just not acceptable from so-called professional players who all earn vast sums of money. We have a manager who is totally clueless as regards tactics and who does not “do” any transfer business. He is paid a phenominal £7 million a year, and for what?. He simply does not do the job that he is so well paid for. This too is not acceptable.
The owners of the club don’t give a monkey’s, because they understand fuck all about football culture in the UK and care only about the balance sheet, which remains healthy – for now.
We will once again be scrapping for 4th place this year, with the likes of Everton and the Spuds – behind City, the Chavs and Liverpool.
This club will get nowhere under the current ownership and management.

  97. I felt like biting my TV off after 20 minutes.. Over eagerness by full backs and midfield did us in along with wasteful passing.
Wish Wenger was a better tactician too. Their powerhouse of midfield 5 gobbled us up. Its a shame we are unable to change our shape, tactics in such important games which makes us scarily one dimensional sometimes.

Hope other teams don’t pick off on our weakness using this as an example.
And hope we learn to adapt tactics to suit match situations better.

Until then lets climb out of our arses and eat the liver-poo sandwich (*classic by the way) cause we deserve it!

  98. Wenger repeatedly putting Monreal in there was always a disaster waiting to happen. Thank god he at last saw that somewhere along the way, although too late. Isnt it strange how sometimes he appears unable to see what everyone sees and insists on a player that costs Arsenal games? I really dont understand what Monreal’s strong points are: cant head, poor poor positioning, poor pace, bad at tackling, no physical strength to jostle. He is only good for crossing the ball perhaps. But that is of very little use when the team is under pressure. Im not even sure he is better than Gibbs at that

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  99. Wenger is still a shit tactician and a great scout. Why would you play Ox on the wing a game after he scored 2 goals playing through the middle? Why would you play Ozil in the middle without suspended Flamini…because Ozil didn’t just start losing balls in the midfield yesterday, that shit is his trademark. Why does Coutinho have 10 meters of freedom to make a through pass? Arteta is shit (that was an easy question). Why do Arsenal fullbacks play like wing backs? Why do we have 3 forwards when Sagna crosses the ball into the box and the only fucking person in the box is Giroud? Why is Ozil the only player coming back for the ball in the midfield and where is his help when he is pressured? Why do we have 3 forwards when Giroud still has to beat 3 defenders off the dribble when he receives the ball at the top of the 18?

Yesterday is what happens when a team knows how to defend you and has the attack potency to punish you. We are fucking boring and predictable…again. And come out with our heads up our Arses. Fuck. Ing. Shite.

  100. Anyone remember that ‘top, top’ player we paid a lot of cash for over the summer and people said he was the new football messiah that would win us the PL…? Ohh, what’s his name again… Ozil, that’s it. Anyone seen or heard of him lately?
