Joe Montemurro has been confirmed as the new Head Coach of the Arsenal Women’s team. The Australian takes over after Pedro Losa left the role last month after just over three years in charge.

Well placed reports mooted that Montemurro was set to take the job and the club have now confirmed that he will take up the post. The 48 year old has an excellent track record in women’s football in his home country.

He guided the newly created Melbourne City- part of the City franchise- to an unbeaten season in their inaugural campaign in 2016.

He briefly managed Kim Little while in charge at Melbourne. His duties were later expanded to assistant manage the Melbourne City men’s team.

Montemurro has been assisting current City manager Michael Valkanis since the turn of the year.

A statement from Montemurro on the Arsenal website read, “I feel honoured and humbled to join Arsenal. I’m excited by the challenge and I am really looking forward to working with the talented staff and players at this great club.”

For some reason when I first saw this I thought it said Jose Mourinho has become Arsenal…

Was about to jump out the window lol. Anyway on a brighter note good luck to the new guy in charge

I thought the same thing. I was like hhuuuhhh!!!

Gooooooooonnnnaaaaaaaaa
Gooooooooonnnnaaaaaaaaa

Lol me too! 😂

On a side note, it’s looking like Antonio Conte won’t make it to next season with Chelsea which I find shocking. If that happens, I’d go all out to make him our next Arsenal manager!

TeeCee

Well he was only appointed due to a misunderstanding.
Abramovich wanted a manager who would really fit the Chelski ideal and thought “Conte” was Italian for “cunt”.

Henry

I thought the blog made some twists on his name in a troll article

Gooneron

Such a heading would be ideal in two years time or less (dependent on circumstances) in regards to the Mens team and hopefully with the best suited name to it.

I would take Jose Mourinho without a doubt ! Fans want Arsenal to win , well guess what , he wins matches and his motivation skills are comparable to that of Gandhi and Martin Luther king. So yeah i want Jose as Arsenal’s next manager.

PodB

Not if you paid me a trillion dollars to allow it. 2 trillion maybe. He’s anti-football. An utter prat. Conte any day over Jose.

A Person

He can win matches and that’s what matters , who cares about Anti Football , its better to play ugly and win than to play beautiful and lose.

Zakgooner

Promote him to the first team….

Arsenal is a finished club.

Hope we can raise our level further and improve results with this change. How do you feel about this appointment, Tim?

Shows how much the womens game is followed in Australia. This made next to no noise down here, a simple story on the premier Football site (theworldgame) was about it. Now if an Aussie was named head coach of Arsenal mens team, would be huge!! A few aussies doing alright at various clubs behind the scenes but fark we need some players to actually be performing in the EPL..other the Mooy at Huddersfield. Back when Cahill, Kewell, Viduka, Schwarzer graced the EPL it really saw the game explode down here.
I will admit I dont watch any local womens football, but do enjoy watching the womens national team, they are doing well and then there is a few stars making names for themselves in the US womens league. But locally, bah. Same as I cant really stand local A-league football either.
