Joe Montemurro has been confirmed as the new Head Coach of the Arsenal Women’s team. The Australian takes over after Pedro Losa left the role last month after just over three years in charge.
Well placed reports mooted that Montemurro was set to take the job and the club have now confirmed that he will take up the post. The 48 year old has an excellent track record in women’s football in his home country.
He guided the newly created Melbourne City- part of the City franchise- to an unbeaten season in their inaugural campaign in 2016.
He briefly managed Kim Little while in charge at Melbourne. His duties were later expanded to assistant manage the Melbourne City men’s team.
Montemurro has been assisting current City manager Michael Valkanis since the turn of the year.
A statement from Montemurro on the Arsenal website read, “I feel honoured and humbled to join Arsenal. I’m excited by the challenge and I am really looking forward to working with the talented staff and players at this great club.”
