Debuchy disappointed not to seal United switch

115

Mathieu Debuchy says he’s annoyed with Arsene Wenger for the way his season has panned out and confirmed that the manager blocked a deadline day approach from Manchester United.

The France international was a surprise last minute target for Louis van Gaal’s side – an opportunity the 30-year-old says would have been ‘magnificent – before he sealed a return to France with Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.

“Yes, at the end of the transfer window they came in,” Debuchy told Canal Plus.

“They [Manchester United] contacted my agents. I was disappointed, obviously. If I had the chance to go to Manchester United it would have been magnificent.

“Unfortunately it wasn’t the case. I discussed it with the coach too, who said that obviously he couldn’t help out a rival.

“I’m a little bit annoyed by him [Wenger]. It’s his choice. I came back well this summer, I had a good preseason.

“I was able to talk to him to know my future at Arsenal. He said that I would have game time and that we would discuss it in December. Unfortunately, I didn’t have this game time.”

It’s almost certain that Debuchy will be offloaded on a permanent basis when the summer transfer window opens. And probably at a substantial loss.

It’s a real shame he’s decided to continue mouthing off about his circumstances. Quite frankly, it reeks of sour grapes from a guy who looked decidedly dodgy every time he played in the first team since returning from the second of two long-term injuries.

Until now I was giving him benefit of doubt. I actually liked him as a player. But this is a completely unprofessional statement. He’s deluded if he ever thought for a moment that we’ll send him to a rival.

I’m glad he’s no longer a part of the squad because his contribution, if any would only be negative. I wish we would have loaned him out to villa where he could see his teammates win the league whilst he got relegated.

But Wenger sold RVP to Man U and allowed Ca$hley to go to Chelsea. Our hero of the day used to play for them too. I do not think Man U would have won the league because of Debuchy but they did because of RVP and so-called gentlemen agreement between Ferguson and Wenger. Just telling the truth but Debuchy ought to shut up now.

Chris O.
Chris O.

Such old, out-of tune violins to keep playing. In neither case did Wenger want to, but he had no leverage contractually and his hand was forced. For example, his only other option with RVP was to sell him for 17m less to Juventus or City, which was no alternative at all.

Here, where he had leverage, he used it.

Anyway, I’m disappointed in Debuchy, initially a good signing and player to whom some bad things happened but who, rather than getting on with it, has loudly made the worst of it. Good riddance.

You speak fact, eternal titi talks a story he basically made up pretending to be in Wengers head. I am tired of this comment section down voting on point comments. Wenger sold RVP to United. He didn’t have to. 17 mil would have been just fine for us if we didn’t want to strengthen a rival. But 10 million is worth more than the league is basically what it implies. Down vote away but selling RVP to united was a mistake.

Sambo, seeing as £7m is such a small amount of money, can you please lend me £1m.

How is it that Chelsea gets bags of money for cast offs but we are expected to take a loss on this MD? Can we sell him to China? We should get 20 Million for him considering the stupid money coming out of China for questionable ‘top’ talent.

He’d have been second choice to Darmian, just the same as being behind Bellerin here. Wenger knew this. Why allow your back up RB to be a back up at a rival, thus strengthening them and putting us in their predicament? You wouldn’t. Had Darmian got injured before Deadline Day, then fair enough. But he didn’t.

I am so happy this guy has gone. So many people thumbed down my comments previously when I had called out his attitude towards Arsenal, but I 100% stand by what I previously said. The guy is deluded, he cant admit that his Arsenal career being a total disaster is down to his own performances. Nothing is Arsene’s fault in this situation. Arsene had to play him in games that had no real relevance because he was just too much of a liability to get a start over Bellerin in matches of genuine importance. He has truly woeful this season,… Read more »

Fellow Gooners,

I’m launching a petition on change.org for that little tosser Debuchy to relinquish his no2 squad number to young Hector at a ceremony where the De’Buchbag gets down on his knees and kisses Bellerins Pegasus like feet. Anyone in? (also please tell me he doesn’t get a medal if we win the league this season!)

Aurier is a very good player for PSG. Now, what he was caught saying about Blanc is much better than what Blanc himself was caught few years ago saying about blocking young blacks from academy to limit their presence in national team. Aurier got punished for talking trash. Did Blanc get any punishment ?

Excellent point. Not into the Blanc-PSG hypocrisy. As if you don’t have loudmouth Zlatan on your team. But of course they’ll milk it for all it’s worth.

We really should have bought Aurier then, and we should still try, because teams like Chelsea, City, or Barca (who bought a banned Suarez remember) will all try it and they couldn’t care less about his comments.

In this case the possibility of playing a major championship in his own country seems to have turned him into a twat.

Debuchy seems like a whiney biatch, But I must say Atsene Wenger also come across as fairly hypocritical when he claims he cant help out a rival. The list of players he supplied to rivals is probably longer than that of any other manager. Even the guy Debuchy was brought in to replace went to Man City. Hehe Wenger is entitled to refuse a player a potential move, But dont make yourself look like a fool saying you cant help out a rival with your history of doing exactly that. Well, I for one am glad he isn’t occupying a space on the bench, bringing his bad attitude with him.

Yes his playing time was restricted, though I can’t say with that when he did feature this season that he looked at all convincing.

I’d much rather have Chambers as the back up option to Bellerin, he actually seems to want to play for Arsenal and, for me, looks like he will have a bright future.
