No FA Cup homecoming for Akpom and Hayden

Arsenal face Hull City in the FA Cup this Saturday, but there’ll be no homecoming for Chuba Akpom and Isaac Hayden.

The duo are on loan at The Tigers but according to the Hull City press office, ‘both players are definitely out’, for this weekend’s clash.

There was some precedent for their inclusion as in the 2010-11 season, Sanchez Watt, then on loan with Leeds, played as the two sides drew 1-1 at the Emirates, before the Gunners went on to win 3-1 at Elland Road.

That means the pair will have to watch from the sidelines as the teams meet for the third successive season in the cup, and Arsenal look to make it a hat-trick of wins.

Wenger has inserted a close in the loan agreement stipulating they won’t play against parent club. Depriving them of the opportunity to show what they can do for help our FA cup challenge. Wenger out.

Eh?

Jeeeez. Are we not allowed to have humour now? That’s it. I’m going to exile. See you after we’ve beaten hull on Saturday. Bloody hell

Andy Mack

Did you mean a ‘Clause’ ?

Ive read the comment a few times now and just going to stop trying to make sense of it now. Looks like something michael owen would type out if he had his own column on the sunday paper.

Considering Arsene has always advocated for on loan players to play against their parent clubs as if they were their own players, it’s either injury or something from Hull’s side. Maybe they are worried that, psychologically, they might both get distracted.

Goontang

Perhaps even the choice of the players? Would be pretty shitty being chuba coming back to london colney at the end of the season after banging the winning goal against us and any hope of a 3rd successive cup.

Cue the Özil chant

It’s weird because Arsene usually grants permission for loanee’s to play against us. He must be thinking that Akpom in particular might be a problem and doesn’t want to risk us going out.

Shrewd move but who cares. Club first!

Doubt very much it’s Arsene. I’m pretty sure it is Hull preferring not to field them. Arsene’s always been vocal about loan players not being restricted.

Go onto the FA website, and you can read the rules of the competition:

Rule 15i.

Personally I think it should be up to the parent club if they can play or not, with the new team able to make their own decision.

I think the FA is covering themselves to avoid any silly conspiracy stuff

Alexy

It’s interesting because the rules say that season long loans are not considered as loans at all. So they don’t need Wenger’s permission to play against us and both Akpom and Hayden should be eligible to play but it looks like Hull have decided not to field them. They both came on as substitutes against Brighton on Tuesday so there shouldn’t be any injuries.

Niall Shannon

I can’t see Arsenal or Wenger making that decision to not play them, its obviously Hull City making that choice. Whether it’s injury or a psychological thing is another matter.

That said, I wonder if they will be wanting Hull or Arsenal to progress when they watch from the sidelines.

Cliff Bastin

Man I was hoping for a nice and relaxing 6-1 win with Chuba getting a late consolation to much applause.

Adrian

I think we let Sanchez Watt play against us knowing that he wasn’t going to be an Arsenal player in the future. But these two guys probably both have a future with us in Wenger’s eyes, hence he doesn’t fancy the idea of players playing against their own clubs.
Plus, we take winning a little more seriously than we used to and we have another great chance to win the cup this year.

Harish P

It’s a shame, it would have have been a terrific opportunity to play against the lads and see what they muster against us, and a rare time to cheer for our boys on the other side.

AntiSpud

It’s a shame because it’s the end of their FA journey at least for this season. Oh and also as I suspect they are true gooners there may be a fear that during the game their natural instinct will kick off and score against the right team, in this instance hull? I don’t know. Always weird to see them playing against parents clubs. Corporal Genk requested it.

Parlour's pay packet

I thought you were going into exile…

Bruce is insuring future loan deals. Clever chap.

Wangge

I don’t care who is available and who isn’t. Just win this game and focus on Premiere League. Forget about Champions League for now because we’ll get knocked out real quick.

Pearson

Let’s smash Barcelona (wishful…)

gunnersaurusismydad

It’s not rocket science…. Hull have a busy couple of weeks and The good old bus driver Stevie Bruce is saving his better players for the more winnable games…… because we all know they’re gonna get beat #COYG

HectorSelector

Good!

Why would we want to hand our opponents any kind of advantage if we can afford not to?
