Wenger surprised by Ozil omission

Wenger: I always knew Ozil could score more goals

Mesut Ozil’s omission from the PFA Team of the Season has come as a surprise to Arsene Wenger.

The German playmaker has created more chances than any other player in the Premier League this season, and has the most assists, yet was left out of the fictional XI chosen by his fellow professionals.

Although Hector Bellerin made the line-up at right back, Ozil missed out. Probably because he doesn’t RUN AROOOOOUUUUUNNNDDD enough.

Speaking about the selection, the Arsenal manager said, “It’s a surprise for me. I cannot explain it, because it’s the players who vote. I don’t know why they did not pick him.

“When you are top of the assists, usually that’s a sign of quality that should get you a place in a top team.”

In reality though, it doesn’t mean anything. We know Ozil has been fantastic, and the least of our problems this season.

If the others can’t see that, there’s not much point getting stressed about it.

Omission instead of admission! Almost had a heart attack thinking that Ozil said he wanted to go to Germany or something after reading the headline

Danny Rose over Nacho Monreal is also just crazy.

Not a massive surprise when you consider our league form really.
Not only that but Rose… Rose has… Rose has also been… good.

good at diving…I am never impressed watching him and actually think he’s a defensive liability for them. I remember watching one recent game and Rose gave away 3 penalties in one game (ref only called one of them). Sp*rs best players at the back are Lloris, the CBs, and Dier me thinks.

I really hope Leicester don’t slip up. I have (a few) too many Sp*rs friends over here in Canada.

I’m really not sure if we can justify Monreal being in the side. Having said that, Rose is…Rose. I’m surprised Fuchs didn’t make the team.

Don’t be silly Ozil would never smoke in the showers. His secret is between Flamini and him.

Bellerin makes on the team but is not nominated for YPOTY. Ozil is nominated POTY but doesn’t make it on the team.

Admittably, most of the 6 players ahead of him probably merit their place in the list. Lukaku, Kane, Alli and Coutinho all entirely deserve their spot as far as I can tell. They’ve all been great/outstanding this season. Butland’s another one who’s done very well for his age, 10 clean sheets at Stoke is quite great (plus, the theatricality of his saves has definitely played a part in his selection, as it does with De Gea). Even Barkley’s been good this year: 8 goals and 7 assists in a malfunctioning Everton side is quite great. You’d probably say that English… Read more »

I do not agree about Barkley and Coutinho and Bellerin getting into the TOTY but not being nominated for YPOTY is fucking retarded.

It’s obviously far more important to “have a good engine” so you can “run araahhnd a bit” than to be skilful and creative with shitloads of end product. After all, what do these foreigner, dago, greaseball, kraaaaht types know? It’s not as if they’ve won shitloads more than us, is it? Thank heavens we have a media which can keep our players honest and not mindlessly hype talentless cross country runners like Henderson, Milner and Dier as being international grade. If it wasn’t for them we might have to rely on talented, artistic players like everyone else in the world.… Read more »

Maybe if you signed a world class finisher, he might’ve been in the mix, Arsene.

Not to mention we might actually be top of the league.

Instead we have Giroud. Who hasn’t scored in the league since January 13th.

Payet has Carrol in front of him.

I’m not sure what your point is. Carroll has not been first choice for most of this season, but I think Payet gets the nod because of the amount of spectacular goals he’s scored as well as creativity.

This is why most players don’t make it as managers.

Has Ozil suffered here because of the team performance over the season?

Very interesting article (if it is allowed 🙂 )
http://woolwich1886.blogspot.fr/2016/04/ozils-quixotic-quest-can-he-succeed.html

And we can also argue that competition wasn’t as high as nowadays.

Probably. Fallacy of division, Arsenal have underperformed, so each of the individual players must also have underperformed.

That plus people still buy into the Ozil is lazy narrative. Any football loving friends of mine who don’t support Arsenal still think he’s shit. I’ve tried using facts to persuade them otherwise. How foolish of me.

2 assists in 2016 tell a different story. Admittedly it doesn’t help when you’re trying to feed a donkey.

And the “legend” Wright says Payet and Alli have been better… It’s amazing how Arsenal legends can become stupid when they are behind a micro… or they are before.

Isn’t Ozil currently only 1 assist short of matching TH14’s premier league assist record?

I wonder how German footballer of the year (Mesut Ozil), Will miss out in the PFA team
of the year. So if those who voted were to pick among Ozil,Ali & Payet for Euros, Ozil would be omitted?

I personally don’t think he deserves it as good as he is does not impose himself in big games. No arsenal player deserves any awards this season.
