Rob Holding on 'disappointing' EFL Cup exit

Rob Holding says that last night’s EFL Cup exit at the hands of Southampton was disappointing due to the quality of Arsenal’s squad and the presence of some ‘big’ players in last night’s team.

The Gunners went down 2-0 thanks to goals from Jordy Clasie and Ryan Bertrand, leaving the former Bolton man downhearted.

“You look at the players we had out tonight, there were some big players and you think with the strength of the squad, a second string team can get all the way – but it wasn’t to be,” he told Arsenal Player.

“It was a chance to get some silverware at the end of the season, so I’m disappointed to be out of the competition. There’s not much more I can say really.

“We’ve just got to learn from it and it’ll only help us in the coming years.”

Holding, despite the loss, showed again he’s a defender of some potential, and both he and Gabriel at centre-half did well all things considered.

He is a good player, has the potential to be a first team player in time. If he learns something from this then it won’t have been a total waste.

I like Holding. Big potential there, and he hasn’t had a particularly soul crushing experience like that other young English defender we have… At least not yet

Yes it must have been crushing for Gibbs to have seen Oxlade-Chamberlain sent off instead.

Other than Alexis, Ozil Iwobi or Giroud no one seems to like moving into space.. yday at times Iwobi was forced to dribble because no one was moving.
Lucas Perez needs more time with the main 11. He is the kind of player who thrives on fast interchanges with players.
Ramsey given a chance to play ahead and chose to almost play as our deepest midfielder at times. Thus leaving us outnumbered in the final third.

By big players I know he wasn’t referring to Ramsey 😉

When Ozil or Alexis are shit it’s because they didn’t have Santi in midfield, yet Rambo is slagged off again! Also they’ve had Giroud to come on and rescue the game for them! Lay off these lads! Just glad they’ve got some experience and hopefully learned a lot, from a game that is low on our priority list.
