Report: Toral to swap Granada for Rangers loan

According to the Scottish Sun, Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral is on the verge of sealing a loan move to Rangers.

The midfielder is currently on loan at Spanish side Granada but has made only four starts in La Liga since signing a season-long deal in July.

A move to Ibrox would see Toral reunited with Mark Warburton who coached him during an impressive spell at Brentford in 2014/15.

The Spanglish La Masia graduate, who signed from Barcelona in 2011 at the same time as Hector Bellerin, stepped up a gear at Birmingham City last season scoring eight goals in 36 Championship appearances. He went on to win the Supporter’s Player of the Season award and Player’s Player of the Season.

After a frustrating first half of the season, Toral desperately needs a run of games. At 21 he’s still young, but as Jeorge Bird, our resident Arsenal youth expert, suggests time is running out for him to make it at the Emirates.

Should Toral complete a move to Rangers he’ll follow in the footsteps of Gedion Zelalem – also struggling to make an impact at Arsenal – who spent last season with the Gers.

Really bugs me that he was sent on loan again – impressed hugely in the English game last year, probably the most impressive loan performance since Wilshire at Bolton, and yet still was not even given a pre-season to prove his worth. I’m not saying he is the answer to our midfield problems, but he could at least have played games like Preston and the league cup to prove his worth.

Bendtner's Ego

I struggle to understand how the player of the year at Birmingham cannot get quality minutes at Granada – a team that sits 19th in the La Liga table.

Something’s gotta be wrong.

Sometimes players just work better in one team than another – Coquelin could hardly get a game for Freiburg or Charlton, then all of a sudden he is arguably the most important midfielder at the Arsenal for the next 18 months

Bobbyp

But wasn’t Coquelin played at right wing at Freiburg?

Granada seem to be opting for older players this year. At that club, he’s a square peg in a round hole. The move to Rangers will be a good one.

You reckon he comes back home until Cazorla/Elnenny/Coquelin are back to add a little bit of depth? It cannot be bad to have him around and make the bench.

I always thought he could be the ideal replacement for Santi. Really hope he gets a chance in the 1st team

Then his #1 task is developing his ability to wriggle his way out of tight spots.
