Transfer Deadline Day – live blog

6

It looks like it’s going to be a busy transfer deadline day, with the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang deal still to go through.

It’s complicated by Dortmund’s need for a replacement, and the possibility of Olivier Giroud going there, or going to Chelsea. At this point, it’s hard to know, but we’ll be here all day giving you the latest updates on the live blog right up until the window closes tonight at 11pm.

I’ve been critical of Arsène in recent years but for once I really back his thinking in terms of transfers during this window. Actually, I believe we could go bolder and with a whole day left he still have some time to close a few last deals. First, I think we should sell Ozil to City. He’s a world cup winner, has been really good this year and entirely deserve to get that championship medal. That’ll also bring some money to Kroenke (he seems to like it). Then Wilshere could go to Liverpool or even Spurs. He’s almost back to its best now, and it would go some way to help them secure their top four spot. With those 2 free slots, we could buy 2 more strikers (Benzema? Gameiro?); attack is the best form of defence, isn’t it? Lastly, we should swap Elneny for Mahrez. The Egyptian also have the World Cup to look for, he’s not playing that much, and what are those DM for anyway? That would leave us with the following, stellar, starting XI: Cech — Some Defenders — XHAKA — Mkhitirian, Mahrez — Benzema, Aubameyang, Lacazette, Gameiro. And it’s true that even with those reinforcements in quality, we might not achieve Champions League places, but I can’t see a better way to properly prepare for next season.

Thanks Blogs. Now when I watch Fargo or Moonrise Kingdom I’ll only be able to see Wenger and not Frances McDormand.

Think there is any chance we might bolster the midfield or defense?

All the optimism of Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang being the first stage of a rebuild at Arsenal has been sucked out of me by the news of Giroud packing his towel and handing in his locker key, in preparation for the cab ride to Chelsea, followed by the abomination of a performance last night. All the talk of learning lessons drawn from Liverpool’s loss at Swansea was just talk. Again. And I still can’t log on to the Arses!!!!
