Caglar Soyuncu confirms Arsenal interest

44

Over the last number of months Arsenal have been linked with a move for Freiburg centre-half, Caglar Soyuncu.

Talks between the clubs took place earlier this month, but as yet no final agreement has been made, and our interest in the 21 year was confirmed by the player himself.

Speaking to Turkish media, he said, “Arsenal are one of the most important clubs in England. I know they’re interested in me, but there’s nothing finalized yet about my transfer.

“After the national team camp we’ll have talks.”

Soyuncu has impressed in the Bundesliga this season, and is a player identified by new Head of Recruitment Sven Mislintat.

The Gunners are in need of defensive reinforcement this summer following the retirement of Per Mertesacker and the serious injury sustained by Laurent Koscielny.

There have also been links with Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos, a move which could open the door for the departure of Shkodran Mustafi, but it remains to be seen what exactly the new head coach wants to do with his defensive set-up.

Soyuncu. Sounds like he’d make a meaty substitute.

I would think the new coach probably wants a defence that doesn’t leak like a sieve

Think he meant atletico. Otherwise it’s quite concerning how he’s jacking off to ATMs and coming without intending to.

He’s going to the world cup, he’s in camp fighting for his place, he doesn’t need to make a decision. In fact its better he thinks about it, one because we want him to be sure and two it means he’s good enough to have very good offers on the table.

From what I can remember from his Dortmund days..Mislintat loves bringing in players whose names are just too hard to pronounce. So wouldn’t be surprised if this transfer does go through.😂

It’s nice bringing in and developing youth but we need an EXPERIENCED centre-half by the start of next season. Kos may never be back and Mustafi is a walking accident.

BTW: I felt sorry for Karius yesterday. He was thrown in at the deep end by Klopp and had an experience which may destroy his career – but I hope it doesn’t.

That what happens when you rely too much on youth.

Not balanced transfer strategy.

We need someone who is at their peak not too old or too young.

If we do that the young players never get a chance.

feel sorry for John Terry for not being able to play against Chelsea next season. Well at least he stays in the Championship and get to face the Orcs.

Me too, I didn’t even want Liverpool to win but felt so sorry for Karius, I didn’t enjoy the game at all. The second error was a bit Ospinatisimo.

Arseblog, what is the status of Steve Bould and the first of the Wenger’s staff. Saw something funny on Arsenal.com, we have a new head coach but also an assistant manager😄😄.

We already have 3 cbacks under 24yrs.

Two recently bought.

Don’t understand the obssession with collecting inexperienced Cbacks.

Its one thing taking someone like Lenglet at Sevilla who has been playing regularly at top level in La Liga and in CL even if at 21yrs.

Its another with Holding from Championship and Mavropanos from Greek league.

NO doubt good potential but neither have yet established return on promise and they need time playing to gain experience.

This player may also be eventually a good buy BUT we are in no position to risk development over ready made in the back line.

Prefer an experienced player but not Johnny Evans or Papasdoupoulous or Lichsteiner all in the sunset of their career with risk to wear and tear or Squillaci effect.

De Vrij is/was available on free transfer at 26yrs.

Not sure what the thinking is regarding our CBack but certainly strikes me as a bit confused and risky.

Wouldn’t mind seeing us go after Reus Royce to properly replace Sanchez.

I’d say: go for Forsberg (RB Leipzig). Quick, aggressive and a team player.

santori

Fossberg is not the sort of player we need in midfield.

We need someone who can control possession and preferably someone who is also strong with some height and power.

Liverpool just signed Fabinho.

Granted we are not in a position to compete because we lack CL allure (rue the people who dissed that 4th place trophy Wenger won continuously for us over 2 decades)…BUT we are rumoured to make a late bid.

Which begs the question why we were not in earlier knowing we would have to fight off teams with CL card to play.

As far as a winger is concern, we are now likely not in a position to get someone like Mahrez who is rumoured to be on City’s radar for 75m.

They tried to get him in last minute in January.

What we should have done was got in early in January and taken Mahrez before his price spiked late on in window with City interested.

Instead without CL we will find it difficult to attract him or even say Thauvin. It will take a lot more money now to move him from Marseille.

What we did in January was inexplicable.

Granted Aubameyang is a decent signing, but it came at expense to europa where we lost Giroud.

Surely the better option would have been to agree personal terms and take the Gabonese in the summer, keeping Giroud on bc of europa.

I would have preferred we took on a wide player in Mahrez before we even dealt with the striker issue with Giroud.

Its all very odd.

Hopefully now that Emery has signed, he will be able to wield a bit of muscle, put his foot down on these rumoured signings by Mslintat and at least measure better what he has in squad over what we can get in market.

I refuse to believe these are the best options even for a team out of CL like Arsenal.

I think you may have fallen down the rumour rabbit hole and banged your head.

santori

Don’t understand the point of it.

Seems to me Sven has the cart before the horse, wants to sneak things in before Emery can weigh in.

Surely you would want the new gaffer to take stock of what he has first.

Plus we already have Holding and Mavropanos as far as under 23yrs Cbacks are concern. Neither have yet showed sustain return on promise to even match the flawed Mustafi. Chambers isn’t that much older either.

Now we’re talking of adding a Squillaci signing with an overweight Greek player who has not performed well last season.

What kind of thinking is this? Is it bc he is ex-Dortmund?

If we are talking youngish players from Germany surely we would be looking at teams that have also performed well defensively this season, not Freiburg who are close to relegation.

Pavard at Stuttgart (where Asano was on loan) has been called up for France. 22yrs but playing at a good level in a defensively solid team last season.

Another young french player Clement Lenglet at Sevilla has also had a stellar season. Difference between him and Holding or Mavropanos is he has played competitively for a season or two now in La Liga (as oppose to Championship or Greek Super League) plus he has CL experience under belt.

Even if we don’t want to be accused of paedophilia (which if it were wenger there would be those cretins who would say so), we should be looking at players close to peak years not old players who are on the wane or may experience wear and tear issues.

De Vrij was available on free transfer being out of contract. Stellar season with Lazio but instead Inter have likely sewn him up. Why were we not in for him early?

Matias Nastasic at Schalke may also be interesting. Ex City player at still only 25yrs and into last year of contract.

Surely these players are better buys than an aging Greek or another 21yr old from a relegation club in Germany?

To me, we have a good managerial appointment in Emery but if we are not careful, we will provide him with wooden nails when other are buying metal ones.

The PL is super competitive with 5 clubs ahead of us all willing to spend.

If we do it on the cheap, we will confirm our status in the europa levels at best. We are not mitigating risk enough and will be buying players (Lichsteiner) you’d nominally see the likes of an Everton or Burnley purchase.

Its utter nonsense if these rumoured signings go through. Hopefully they are just as they are rumours based on back up plans we have. Otherwise I fear for the club and the direction it is going.
