Katie McCabe and Louise Quinn Sign New Arsenal Contracts

Irish internationals Katie McCabe and Louise Quinn have signed new contracts with Arsenal Women. They join Sari van Veenendaal, Emma Mitchell, Leah Williamson, Danielle van de Donk, Jordan Nobbs and Dominique Janssen in committing to the club during 2018.

McCabe is the captain of the Irish national team and joined the club from Shelbourne Ladies three years ago, she had a shor tloan spell with Glasgow City Ladies where she won the Scottish league title at the beginning of last season. She is a left winger also capable of playing at left-back. McCabe has won an FA Cup and two Continental Cups at Arsenal

Quinn joined the club suddenly last spring on a short term contract when Notts County Ladies folded last April. Her performances in last year’s Spring Series earned her a long term deal, which she has now renewed. Quinn won the Continental Cup this season and played all but 8 minutes in a run that saw the Gunners defence keep 8 consecutive clean sheets throughout the spring this year. Quinn is also an Irish international and an imposing centre half.

Manager Joe Montemurro said: “Katie and Louise are both very talented players. They both bring so much to our squad. Louise is a strong, talented and committed defender and Katie is a technical and intelligent player. We are delighted that they have chosen to sign new contracts with us.”

Quinn told Arsenal.com, “It’s a great club with great facilities, a great manager, team-mates and training with world-class players every day. I think for me, the quality of training has been so good that it’s just improved me as a player and it’s challenged me.

“I have to find different parts of me that, as a player, I haven’t come across. I think Arsenal has really brought that out in me. Dribbling with the ball more, wanting the ball more… it’s about always improving.

“I honestly didn’t think that it would go this well. Getting to the FA Cup final was something that I wasn’t even sure was in my sights. It seemed so far away but then when you join a club like Arsenal, it definitely gets there.”

Ireland skipper McCabe added, “I’m ecstatic really to sign a new contract and be a part of a club like Arsenal for even longer,” McCabe added. “I just want to keep pushing on and getting in the team to start really staking a claim for my place. I want to keep my head down, working hard to help Arsenal win more trophies.”

Arsenal are expected to announce two more arrivals from the Frauen Bundesliga this summer and a player from France. Some departures are also likely amongst some squad players.

I’m glad Unai Emery is doing away with gender divisions in the first team. Excellently progressive attitude.

That’s a poorly worded comment, but in fairness it does look a little like the image is stretched a little, at least on my phone. Club badges look a little wider than they should.

It would be interesting to know the wages on offer. Whenever male first team players are signed that’s a fact you get in the first sentence
